Wow the Rolls Royce of toasters.

      • a bit hard to see where the art ends and the toaster begins, tho it's very pretty… and outrageously expensive.

      • It’s absolutely disgusting in person…you’d need to be a rich chump to consider it, but at that point who’s eating lowly toast?

      • okay 1k for a toaster, omg, but that actually looks pretty rad.

    • Go check out the Balmuda Toaster from Japan

Nah mate, get the Mitsubishi Electric Bread Oven TO-ST1-T

      • the only thing stopping me from getting this is finding a suitable step-down transformer to 100V

Nah, got one and it's not that smart lol

    • Dualit is probably the Bentley of toasters: https://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/brands/Dualit?s…

A Dualit appliance isn’t like your average appliance.

As durable as a tank, but oozing with cool style, a Dualit appliance is an investment for the future – it will be around for a lifetime. Every Dualit appliance is tough, strong > and hard-working, but always a delight to use. Not to mention, they look totally unique, melding retro colours and looks with robust industrial design.

But in the world of toasters, few approach the same level as Dualit’s Classic range. For over fifty years, these toasters have been assembled by hand in England to the original 1940s design. The stuff of legends, these commercial-quality toasters boast patented heating elements, with filaments protected by armour-like plates that make them extremely tough and long-lasting. Because of these, Dualit classic toasters have garnered an excellent reputation and sense of efficiency.

Breakfast will never be the same once you have a Dualit toaster in the household. Believe us, your heirs will one day fight over it…

I stand corrected, the Breville The Smart 2 is more a low end BMW.

I have never spent more than $50 or $60 on a toaster.

      • You mean lexus but you ain't know it

Pro tip: get the 2-slot 4-slice long version (BTA830BSS), for irregular shaped bread.

Pick of the bunch for sure, unless you always buy regular sized bread.

    • +1

Can you get long slot toasters with 2 levers? I wanted to get one for the reasons you gave, but ended up going with a 4 slot with 2 levers so I didn't use as much electricity when only doing 2 slices.

Not sure if it is a huge saving over running both slots of a long slot toaster with only one slot loaded though.

      • Dunno - I haven't looked at toasters in 10 years since I got the BTA830!

The BTA830 can't (it can toast each slot one-sided, but not toast just 1 slot). For me, being able to toast irregular bread was more important. But yes, having 1-slot capability (to make 2 pieces of regular toast at a time) would indeed be a handy feature!

    • yep, I have the 2 slot 4 slice as I tend to eat break that has long slices. Can also do 4 crumpets at a time, etc.

If you don't mind picking up from a store, you can get it cheaper from TGG for $179 plus 12% cashback from CR which brings the price down to $157.52

fantastic toaster, this. Had it for some years and still love it to bits.

  • +1

After having multiple toasters broken by guests, this one has lasted years as there is nothing (for idiots) to break, just buttons.

    • +2

How do you break a toaster? Actually I have to admit breaking one when trying to get about two years worth of crumbs out of it jigging it upside down outside.

      • In two cases forcing the lift mechanism when it there was a mechanical release button (Tefal). One case broke the handle by pushing it down too hard repeatedly. One we discovered the element had been fused to the side after they left - that would have taken a knife at a dangerous angle … people are fkn stoopid at times.

This one only has buttons and can’t be broken … unless someone jams a knife into it.

    • Funny, I have the BTA830 in less then 2mths old and the only button that now works is the toast down/up. All the others have stopped. Now I've got to post it back so Breville can look at it. Not too happy.

      • Wow - ours has been running perfectly for 6 years now

Hopefully this makes toast that is at least 20 times better than this?
    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/2-slice-toaster-white-42663…

    • You can probably do better than $170 for a good toaster, but the cheap ones are always a pain in the ass unless you just want a cheap one to take camping.

  • Have had this one, average, doesn't cook even

  • +1

Wow. Worst time to buy this toaster. camelcamelcamel says $169 is the highest price in history at Amazon.

  • +1

I have one of these, if you like your daily morning toast, I would say it is worth it. Easily the best and most consistent performing toaster I have ever had. The extra functions like the crumpet mode are handy. It would have been nice if it had some sort of smart home integration, that would have truly made it a "smart" toaster if it had remote automations/notifications.

Is it great value for money, probably not. I did get it a while back during a black friday special. I remember paying around $120-$130 for it once I stacked gift cards and cashback. So I dont think $169.99 is a great price at all.

  • Wow this appears to be more expensive than the old 4-slice Breville model I have. The lift and look is a gimmick. I hardly use it to check. But the "a bit more" function is useful. As usual, modern appliances don't last well. One of the button lights already not working.

    • +2

Funny, I use 'lift and look' all the time, would only consider toasters that have it. But we have a cheaper manual toaster so you just literally lift the lever up. Not sure what others think but I feel like just having a motor in the toaster is the real gimmick

    • +1

I also use "lift and look" all the time.
      Very handy function.
Excellent toaster. Had it for years. Very happy with it.

I bought the 4 slice version of this 10 years back for less than this price. Has the RRP really gone up that much?!?

    • Is it still working?

      • Mine from 2012 is still going strong. From memory paid about $120.

        • I think this is a win haha!!

    • +2

That's definitely not a reason to neg

    • This is still a deal based on current market although I bought mine around $120 as well, but this has 2 in front, x2 more expensive?

  • +1

I have this and I find it to be a very good toaster. Especially for crumpets. But mine was a gift - I would not pay the retail price for this as it is fancy, but no more functional than your average decent toaster.

  • That is how the robot wars begin

  • Good until the fault light starts to flash. Then you have a damn expensive paperweight.

  • This is the same price as what I paid in February, I don't think it went up ibetween?

  • +1
    • Wow I wish I can get this one 😆
