Kayo Increasing Prices - Only 1 Stream for $25 Instead of 2 Streams

Like many other streaming services looks like Kayo is jacking their prices soon.

Currently you get 2 streams for $25 pm but they'll be taking that away soon

We're getting in touch with you to let you know from May 9, we’re introducing a new third subscription option to give you more ways to enjoy Kayo:

Kayo One: 1 stream for $25 per month
Kayo Basic: 2 streams for $27.50 per month
Kayo Premium: 3 streams for $35 per month

Anyone know of some deals going around than don't require Alinta or Telstra membership?

Thanks,

So basically a 10% price increase to the current plan.

If you don't want a price increase, you can switch down to only 1 stream.

The News Ltd PlusRewards deal (in my state, Vic, with the Herald-Sun) still looks live, until 30 June.
Pay for a year in advance for 2 screens for $200. If you can get a discounted gift card, even better.

The price of oil is really rekting everything.

    • Yeah this. Heck, you should've seen what happened to the price of bitcoin yesterday. Wew lad.

      • Bitcoin is crashing now and I bought more today like I've been doing every few days for months.

Kayo $15/month with the Telstra discount (use a $2 sim kit if you don't have telstra). Annoying MotoGP is not free to air anymore, but at least I get Moto2 and 3 and SBK now. Would probably be decent value if you like AFL.

Australian's voted for media monopolies and here it is: fools losing more money than ever to watch harmful advertising which used to be free because of legislation controlling media.

Don't expect any reporting on it after they voted for news to be owned by two corporations including one that owns Kayo.

    • Is kayo 🇦🇺 ?

      • Depends how Australian you consider News Corp/Rupert Murdoch to be.

  • +3

They're taking the piss jacking up the prices and still offering max 1080 streams.

    • +4

The award for taking the piss has got to lie with Foxtel, you can pay over $100/month and still have to watch a crap-tonne of ads. And bizarrely quite a few ads are advertising for Foxtel, which you are already paying for????

      • and hideous amounts of repeated shit TV

    • yep its total bs. they are just milking it not supporting 4k and at a good bitrate at this point. $25 to $35 isnt cheap for sport only

The Telstra discount ($15) can be accessed with a $2 SIM from woolworths. During activation when it asks you to recharge there is a fine print option down the bottom to skip for the moment. Push past a couple of warning pop ups and you get it active and can generate the Kayo code.
Only applies for first 12 months, but it will do for this year's motoGP.

    • Thanks for that. I’ll just do this!

I'm on the Telstra deal that reduces the $25 a month fee to $15 for 12 months for 2 streams. That price is now set to become $17.50 a month.

When I try to reduce the plan from 2 streams to 1 stream the $10 a month discount disappears and the price goes up to $25 a month.

So I have only 2 choices, 2 steams for $17.50 a month or 1 stream for $25 a month. Disappointing.

    • Is it? I thought we were all staying on $15/mo until the end of our "offer periods"?

      • -1

That is no longer an option as far as I can tell. Check your subscription settings.

  • Merged from News Corp to Hike Prices for Kayo Sports

Fairfax/9 reporting that News Corp is to increase prices for Kayo Sports.
    https://www.theage.com.au/business/companies/news-corp-to-hi…

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has told investors the company is planning to hike prices for Kayo Sports streaming service, as it seeks to capitalise on a strong start to the AFL and NRL seasons…A basic subscription to Kayo currently costs $25 a month, while a premium subscription costs $35…A message on the Kayo website on Friday morning said: “Kayo Basic will increase to $27.50/mth on your first bill from 9th May 2022 (or after your offer ends).”

A 10% hike or only $2.50/month extra, depending on how you look at it.

Probably insignificant to some, but I've read elsewhere that streaming services (i.e. Netflix) are losing customers as the economy bites (and some other reasons probably).

I still think that Kayo is worth it for my viewing habits, but I'll be cancelling (again) at the end of the sports season that are of interest to me.

While not ideal, this is the world we now live in with inflation running hot.

There are things that you can do to bring the cost down, e.g. share account with others or purchase discounted Kayo gift cards

      • +5

Or refrain from giving money to the Murdoch empire and save $27.50?

        • +2

I would love to, but my footy team needs me to watch.

          • @GG57: Depending on the trust, maybe their creds?

          • @GG57: My friend gets all the sports channels in the world for $10 a month somehow. Must be some kind of special deal.

      • I recall seeing a recent post where Kayo was increasing the price depending on how many streams you wanted.
And, yes, hopefully there will be some new deals at times.

I'm not sure, though, how this increase can be caused by inflation. Resource costs are probably stagnant.

        • +1

There’s a lot of opportunistic price rises happening at the moment. Of course some are justified as input costs have increased. For Kayo, most of their contracts would be locked in so the only real cost increase they might have had is wages of their staff and some of their technology vendors may have increased their costs.

I’d say this is more an opportunistic price rise than one justified by rising business costs.

          • @El-Rhi: I'd agree as opportunistic, particularly based on the wages front. Very few people have had a pay rise for years.

    • +2

There's almost always some kind of deal going for Kayo that brings the price down, it's just a matter of waiting until then and weighing up the cost.

Telstra has always had a $15/MTH deal going for example

Hopefully Amazon or Paramount/Ten win the next media bid. At least you will get more bang for your buck.

      • +2

Hopefully, depending how they structure the broadcast.
I certainly don't have a problem with the Ch10 commentators, far above some of those Foxtel d!cks.

Hopefully a new deal breaks up the boys club…..the amount of times you hear "good point Darcy/Lingy/Duck/BT" gets repetitive.

    • This is old news isn't it? You should be able to downgrade to one stream and keep it the same price.

      • There is certainly some similarities, but the linked story in the press today this is stated:

In a call with investors to discuss the company’s quarterly results on Friday morning (AEST), News Corp’s global chief executive Robert Thomson confirmed plans to raise prices for Kayo, but did not specify by how much or when the increase would take effect.

The journalist may have assumed that the $2.50 increase stated on the Kayo website is related. We will just have to wait and see.

    • 10% hike or only $2.50/month extra, depending on how you look at

Pay $1 more and get a VPN.

  • +2

My Telstra plan for $10/month off now shows that I will pay $17.50 from my next payment.

I just downgraded to the 1 screen plan and it says $25, so I cancelled it and went back to $17.50

I wonder if this means the $10 off does not apply for the 1 screen plan?

  • Also look out for when there's discounts to kayo gift cards, when loaded onto your kayo account it can be stacked with the Telstra deal. And as mentioned two people can stream the Telstra deal at once so can then split it further. With the updated Telstra Price ($17.50 monthly) this would come to $78.75 annually.
