Looks like a trend now that woolies and coles using in-house reward programme as a sweetener for GC these days. Wished they have the discounts instead.

I just ended up getting a $500 ultimate Teens one THIS week as the current Woolworths deal gave me 20X my spend in Rewards points which converted to 10,000 Woolworth Rewards points = $50.

I plan to get a Apple Watch at JB soon so was good for me and I also don't have to worry about losing a card (also makes it less annoying when paying for an item when you don't have to whip out 10+ gift cards to pay for a large item). :-)

    • Can you elaborate on the not having to produce multiple cards at checkout? Is there some way of putting all the value in a wallet or something?

      • I just prefer to not have to worry about managing 10 x $50 gift cards as opposed to having a single $500 one. Some people have also mentioned in the past having difficulty using multiple (ie more than 10) gift cards at places like JB HiFi but I assume that is partly because it is annoying to process that many for the staff, especially if busy.
If you want, you can also use the multiple ultimate gift cards to buy a single large denomination JB HiFi gift card but that is probably one of the few examples I can think of that will homogenise multiple cards if you have multiple.

        • Gotcha. Would love some way of consolidating these gift cards. Anyone know if JB allows you to buy a single JB gift card with these eftpos type gift cards?

        • Do you know for sure that jb allows buying of their gift card with this ultimate gift card?
          Thanks.

they got a card that lets you top up $50-500 now rather than the $50 or $100 fixed amount ones. Seems much more sensible way to go.

        • Can you find this $50-500 card at Woolworths now? Or is it just online?

          • +1

@Winchester-LK: I got mine from the Woolworth Hawthorn (VIC) store yesterday.

          • +2

            @Winchester-LK: Time to clarify a few things…

            • Only the Ultimate Teens gift card is sold in a variable load $20-$500 denomination instore at Woolworths. I've noticed it at Woolworths for the last 12-18 months.

            • AFAIK, Woolworths does not stock any other Ultimate gift cards (including the gift cards in this deal) in the variable load $20-$500 denomination.

            • Not all Woolworths stores stock the variable load $20-$500 Ultimate Teens gift card.

            • Other stores (e.g. Coles) do not stock it.

            • @WookieMonster: Do you know if you can buy jbhifi gift card with the ultimate teen gift card? Thanks.

              • +2

                @1centTomato: It depends.

For the online JB Hi-Fi store, if you have a Visa version of any Ultimate gift cards accepted at JB Hi-Fi, you may be able to use it to purchase a physical or digital JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website.

                You can either:

                • Input the Visa card’s details into the checkout, or:

                • Add the Visa card to your Apple Pay wallet first, then use an Apple device to access the JB Hi-Fi website and opt to pay via Apple Pay.

However, the issue is that JB Hi-Fi may randomly cancel your order, especially if you’ve successfully completed one or two gift card orders earlier in the day or the previous day. This happened to a number of OzBargainers back in Dec 2021 during a 15% off Ultimate gift card deal at Coles, and was probably due to JB Hi-Fi’s fraud detection systems kicking in.

For in-store purchases, it is up to staff members.

JB Hi-Fi head office issued a notice to all stores in Nov 2020, asking staff to stop customers from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards. However, considering it has been 18 months since this notice was issued, some staff would not be aware (or are ignoring) this notice.

Last time I checked, there is nothing in JB Hi-Fi’s sales systems to automatically stop you from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards as a payment method for any gift cards in a JB Hi-Fi store. TCN or Ultimate gift cards are simply EFTPOS or Visa cards that only work at participating retailers, which means redeeming funds from them is different to redeeming funds from a JB Hi-Fi gift card. Basically, if you can get a staff member to let you purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using TCN or Ultimate gift cards, you’ll be fine. Considering redeeming a TCN or Ultimate gift card is really no different to redeeming funds from a debit/credit card, you only need to say to the staff member that you’d like to redeem a card (not a gift card).

@WookieMonster: Thank you so much for a detailed reply!
I will try instore tomorrow. Let's hope for the best.

@1centTomato: Sure, just don't mention anything, use it as EFTPOS card. Savings -pin. They won't know anything.

                    • @ce5himm: That’s assuming you have the EFTPOS version.

For the Visa version, you’ll need to swipe, press Credit and enter the PIN. (Or add it to your Apple/Google/Samsung Pay first and then merely tap the smart device against the EFTPOS terminal.)

@WookieMonster: Oh yes, forgot that. My point is just do normal. They won't ask anything.

                        • @ce5himm: Agreed. That’s why I always say to folks:

you only need to say to the staff member that you’d like to redeem a card (not a gift card).

                          • +1

@WookieMonster: Do you know we can buy 10 cards everyday during the week or only 10 cards per account? According to the T&C wording, I feel I can buy 10 every day. I Need to stock some more.

                            • @ce5himm: The T&Cs state you can only purchase gift cards in one transaction per day, and in that transaction, you’re only allowed to buy a maximum of ten gift cards.

However, my experience from other gift card deals at Woolworths is that the specific term is complete garbage. I purchased one EFTPOS gift card during a different deal recently and received bonus points. When I did a second (separate) transaction at the same checkout one minute later, I received more bonus points. However, that deal had the same “one transaction per day and ten gift cards per transaction” rule as the one in this current deal, and I have not had any points reversed from that deal, even though I definitely went against the deal’s terms and conditions. Maybe Woolworths has changed their POS system so that you won’t actually receive bonus points on subsequent transactions each day during this deal, but I doubt it.

If you’re unsure, you can always test this out by purchasing some gift cards in one transaction, and then scanning more gift cards in a separate transaction (whether at the same store or at another store). Once you get to the payment screen (and assuming you will earn enough points to take your points balance over 2,000), you should get a pop-up message saying “congratulations, you’ve earned $xx off a future shop!”, plus there may be a points counter on the payment screen too. If you see the total points earned on the payment screen is zero or you do not get that pop-up message, that means you’ll earn no points for that purchase. You can ask a staff member to cancel the transaction at this stage, as you’re not actually obliged to purchase the gift cards.

                              As a side note:

                              • I don’t know the reason the terms only state the limit is ten gift cards per transaction, as that particular limit only refers to the theoretical limit Woolworths Group has programmed into their POS system. The issue is that terms do not mention that store managers and duty managers can enforce their own limits if they feel like it. I remember one Apple gift card deal at Woolworths last year where the duty manager told me that each customer could only buy $300 in Apple gift cards per day…

                              • The terms essentially state that any gift card in this deal will earn 1,000 bonus points. However, the $30 denomination actually earns only 600 bonus points and the $100 denomination actually earns 2,000 bonus points.

                              • @WookieMonster: Thanks for your info. I think I will try tomorrow. Good thing about rewards is you can see how many points you can straight on the screen. Not like flybuys.

                                • @ce5himm: Just be aware that not every Woolworths will display the points counter on the payment screen.

When I was in Tassie over the summer, the Woolworths stores there did not have the points counter on the payment screen, but it would display the pop-up message if your balance was going to go over 2,000 points. That was strange, as my local Woolworths stores here on the mainland nearly always have the points counter on the payment screen.

To be fair, Woolworths in Tassie is always run a bit differently…

@WookieMonster: Exactly, my local we'd I went yesterday does show the points on screen.

  • Promo includes:
    $100 Home/Him/Thanks GCs earning 2000 points.
    $30 Student/Eats GC earning 600 points

    • Is that a statement or a question?Where did you get that from? It's def not in the T&C's.

      • +1

I can confirm that $100 voucher give you 2,000 points, it is mentioned on the shelf with gift card.

  • Can we buy 10 cards everyday? Or just 10 cards / account?

  • +1

How about if we buy 2*$100 gift cards, do we get 4000 points?.

    • Wondering this too

    • +3

See comment above. Eligible $100 card get 2000 pt. So yes. I don't see why not. Plus before you pay, just check their screen it will show how many pts you are getting at the bottom left corner. Check that before you pay.

    • +1

Yes you can. There is a limit as to how many a day you can buy though. Limit was 5 or 10 per day. I cannot remember which but someone here will let us know.

      • +1

I can confirm I bought 7 x $100 and 1 x $50 Home gift cards in a single transaction and the points showed up at the counter before paying. Hope this helps!

  • Can I use the 15% off special gift card to buy the Him gift card from woolworths?

    • You cannot use a gift card to buy a gift card.

    • +1

      It should be fine.

Woolworths (and BIG W, for that matter) block some prepaid gift cards from being used as a payment method for some gift cards sold in their stores. However, the only prepaid gift cards blocked are the ones actually sold at Woolworths. Considering a Special gift card is (obviously) not sold at Woolworths, it should be fine to use as a payment method for gift cards.

Additionally, Woolworths has not placed any restrictions on the types of prepaid gift cards you can use to purchase Ultimate gift cards in their stores. When I purchased an Ultimate gift card from Woolworths a couple of months ago, I paid for it using an OnlyONE Visa gift card (which is one of the prepaid gift cards blocked from being used to pay for some gift cards).

If you have the Super Shopper gift card, it lists Woolworths as one of the featured retailers, so I would be surprised if Special declined your payment request at Woolworths (unless you got the PIN wrong or the gift card had insufficient balance or attempted a cashout or something like that).

  • Bought on 20/4 so have yet to receive anything, but we will see
