Price-wise I think that's good. And from what I've read in reviews, they sound like a decent pair.

But it's more of a case of want than need now….

    (I need to be strong…resist)

Bargain. If only I needed heaphones…

  • Pricing is good as are the reviews.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but can anyone recommend a good, comparably priced pair of cans that does not suffer the same noise leak (in both directions) as these?

I bought a pair of HD449 for $99 from Harvey Norman about a month ago. Might be what you're after.

You might already know, but that's because they are open design earphones. These are meant to sound better than a closed design (but personally I like the closed sound). So any specs saying it's a closed design will keep the sound leakage to a minimum.
The HD449s grazer recommended are pretty good.

      • Thanks both.

    • Do you have a link as to where I might find these (HD449)?

  • Wonder if this shares the plastic headband and hinges of other recent Sennheisers - these parts seem to have a bad habit of breaking within a few years.

    • Yes I'd say so, I've got the HD555 and look very similar in construction. Mine are treated gently and are showing cracks on both sides of the headband within 12 months of use (cracks are on the grey plastic where the black headband inserts into it). Even though my gf says I have a big head, it's not big enough to cause this.

Otherwise: very happy with these headphones, very comfortable, great depth of sound, but my misses detests them as they're 'open' and she can hear everything I can (we have different tastes in music). So be warned if you plan on using them around other people.

    Price says $199 for me…

As per the first sentence in the deal, you need to add the item to your cart and then apply the promo code.

  • oh sorry, I usually read the text and the one time I didn't I make a fool of myself.

that will teach me for trying to take a quick peak during work ; D (well probably not).

They are too big anyway, I really want a good set of of on ear noise canceling headphones to replace my Sennheiser PXC300 NCs, as the foam has come off them :( and I need them for work…and by need, I mean I want them so I don't have to listen to chatter ; D

But its a damn great price for what I assume are great headphones

you're not going to get any sympathy ;)

  • How do these compare to the Audio Technica AD700?

    • I'd like to know this also.

      • I just bought the AD700 for $125… getting buyer's remorse now. I wish this deal popped up a couple of days ago.

        • AD700 would definitely sound better than these Senn's.

    yay new headphones :D

  • how does HD518 compared to the likes of Senn PX100 and Koss PortaPro? I suspect my small mp3 player won't be enough to drive the HD518..

    • no problem driving hd518 from my mobile phone. so depends on your mp3 player. may consider getting the fiio e11. works great with it.

  • Decent deal, but not a terribly good pair of headphones for the price as told by this reputable source.

    http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=629

    • Probably a bass head that's used to doof doof and finds anything that doesn't visibly vibrate the driver as producing not enough bass.

They're good cans for the price. Sennheisers are renowned for clarity. If you want bass look elsewhere.

      • Haha, very funny generalization. My main cans are the Beyerdynamic DT880 and I also use the JH13 Pro (which you can see in my gravatar), so I think I know a thing or two by now about clarity.

Sennheisers may be renowned for clarity, but not these ones at least.

        • I wasn't thinking specifically of these cans.

Something like the HD 280 PROs are genuinely jaw-dropping and even Amazon has them for the same price as these HD 518s, which I really don't get.
