That's a good price for a new phone. Unfortunately there is nil external sdcard and its also not dual simcards.

    • +8

      And no more headphone jack.
      Samsung iGalaxy (aka iPhone)

      • +4

        and don't forget no charger….

      • +7

No physical.keyboard, removable battery or 2g support either.

        • +1

Damn was hoping to change the led from green to white.

        • +2

Actually removal battery was a great feature that allowed the consumer to Repair not just Replace. 1 more kick in the face of the planet.

        • +2

I get your point but making fun of a removable battery is moot. That was a very useful function - removing it only serves the seller.

      • No Snake. No deal.

      • I can see why audiophiles complain about missing headphone jack but I don't see why normal people should bother, wireless earphones are cheap these days. Also this is across all phone manufacturers

        • +2

A few times I've forgotten to charge my headphones or its run out of juice in between a workout at the gym having a headphone jack came in handy. It's not too big of an issue but its good to have as a backup.

          • @umoddbro: Keep a usbc to 3.5mm adapter connected to your backup headphones or in your gym bag if it's that big of a problem

            • @Aysee: I find my s21 very intermittent on accepting the jack.

            • +2

@Aysee: yeah keep another dongle on you that you have to pay another 20 bucks for, to restore functionality that used to be standard to you. Another dongle that is another potential part that fails. Not to mention the fact that usb ports feel like they've gone down in quality and are more likely to fail now than ever. Ever since my s9 the usb ports on my samsungs have all failed after 1-2 years through normal use.

Anti-consumer crap. Samsung have legit lost it trying to be the next apple without the quality to show for it.

    • Not even an esim?

      • +12

There is dual SIM, via one physical SIM and one E-SIM.

        • No simultaneous standby though right?

    • +12

It doesn't have Snake built in either.

      • No 10 day battery life

        • It does if you enable maximum power saving mode which turns the phone into a black n white phone with basic functionality and some apps.

          • +1

@jedimaster: it does not turn your phone into black and white though, it applies a black wallpaper and the apps though limited are the same, colored.

        • It can't be use as a brick to hit people (self defense ofcoz)!

  • +3

Seems like there's always some sort of special offer on the s22 - not sure if this is routine or not.

      • +7

It's the S22 line. It hasn't performed as well as Samsung wanted it to, for good reason. I'm still on my S10 Plus and not planning on upgrading to an S22 for those reasons. Samsung itself is great, and Android is the best platform for me and my family. YMMV.

        • I am not sure why people are saying this. S22 Ultra perhaps one of the best performing phones (of course, coming from Note's DNA). I love its 10x camera and I can tell you the image quality and its sharpness has improved. Biggest battery 5000mAh and for me, I enjoy its LDAC / Aptx / SSC sound quality. The bluetooth music plays much clearer and better in my car then my previous Note 10+. Of course, love the S-Pen too for writing people's order, drawing, and remote camera shutter as well as note taking.

    • Thay need to sell it. It may indicate that the retail price is over inflated thats why Samsung is willing to cut deals…

  • +4

Current JB RRP = $1249 (S22 128GB), so their credit value on phone is $850 (paying $399 upfront)
Current Samsung EPP Price = $999.20, so you could argue the credit value is only worth ~$600
Which isn't too bad a deal vs the current $300 (sometimes $400) JB Gift Card deal (for $69pm /12 month plan) minus the GC flexibility
Previous deal here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/696372 was $950 credit towards S22 Ultra 128GB and some received $900 credit value towards S22+ instead
Only been 2 months since launch so prob. better to hold out for some deeper credit/discount on S22 series… or the historical $500 JB GC everyone is waiting on

    • agree with you. if a lot of people sign on $400 gift card, $500 or more gift card will never back, only if you need it now.

    • +1

About a week after the S22's launch, I scored the $450 bonus with a trade in (Pixel 4a for $120 + $450, only $30 less than what was originally paid for the phone) while also getting a price match at JB for EPP pricing ($999.20 for both 128gb and 256gb, long story short 128gb in white was the only model left in VIC)
      In total: paid $999.20 - $570 = $429.20 for a brand new off contract S22, not complaining.

      • That's a good score - thanks for the tip - didn't know JB could price-match EPP pricing. Goes to show if you don't ask/try - you don't get =)

        • +1

I think that'd depend on how desperate the salesperson is to get your sales. Some of them would say no, unfortunately.

          • @soupiejr: Exactly. Had to go between 3 stores, 1st and 2nd stores were in the pre-order period, first store said that "It was too good of a deal, because JB is more reputable than EPP", second said that it was their policy that they couldn't price match on a pre-order price, (which I somewhat believed), and then the third store ended up agreeing after being able to prove my account.

    • +1

Can you keep the phone if you cancel the plan? heard some other people say it's possible

    • +2

how does this deal works? so you need to pay $69 per month for telstra plus $399 to own the device? and if so then total cost for the plan will be (69*12)+399 =$1227 so how come it is cheap? you still need to pay monthly cost for the plan?

hard to understand what i will be paying out of pocket for the plan plus phone ?

  • Saw it on the Sydney store, it actually apply to samsung S22 series ($850 off). Can you also redeem an additional $100 Gift Card that comes with S22 promotion? It seems like okay deal but don't need a new phone at the moment.

  • +2

Good deal, but not much time left to act if the deal does end today. Good luck to anyone with kids ducking out late on Mother’s Day afternoon to grab themselves a new phone lol.

  • Can anyone explain to me why these mobile plan deals getting high votes? Is it that we can cancel the plan the 2nd month after bought the phone with good price?

    • +11

Well, for me… it makes my phone plan free, and on Telstra coverage too.

      $69*12 = $828
      $399 once off for phone
-$20 once off credit from asking Telstra rep on chat
      $1208 over 12 months

Sell the phone for $900-1000 or so cash, = $26p/m,
      - which is pretty good for Telstra anyway!

Ask jbhifi to refund the phone instead, =$1249 giftcard, use it for full value and I've actually made money. Or sell if for a loss and the phone plan becomes about $6p/m.

Claim tax %use on the phone bill and/or the phone cost and I'm actually making money of the phone

      • Man! a smart shopper.
But how do you get JBhi fi to refund the phone if you already sold it?

        • Sorry, I meant you could sell it on gumtree etc OR, ask jbhifi for a refund

          • +2

@bs0: You will get refunded how you paid for the phone, so you will only get back $399 in a cash/debit refund and the remaining will be a gift card.

            • @JoeBogan: There was an option for both, I got the whole $1249 as a g/c.

              • @bs0: Are you saying they only charged you $399 for the phone and then gave you a gift card for $1249 when you returned it?

                • @thatguyfromthatplace: Yep

The receipt doesn't state if the phone was bought as a deal with a plan. To the cashier, it looks like I bought it using credit card + $850 giftcard. Which is why they were happy to refund it in the same manner, or in my case, I asked for the whole amount as a giftcard.

              • -1

@bs0: Can confirm that on a previous deal when JB was offering $800 gift card or $1250 towards any Samsung S22 phone with $99 per month offer for 24 months(was discounted to $79pm), i opted for the Sww phone and later returned it to a different store for a $1250 gift card.

They fill money on a blank gift card to pay for the phone which is why on returning it, I got gift card again.

                • @jedimaster: I'm calling bs on this, you can't return to a different store and can't get refund an amount that's not in the receipt (what you've paid), gift card or cash

                  • @nson: Believe it or not is up to you. You don't pay anything to JB Hifi when you sign up for a Telstra plan. You do not even submit a credit card. They ask for your ID to do a credit check and give you a telstra sim card. Then as part of the offer, they offered me either a $800 jb hifi gift card or $1250 towards a Samsung S22 phone. I opted for the latter which they processed by using a gift card as you do not pay for it. I also got a invoice for the S22 which clearly showed paid via gift card. I returned it to a different store few days later.

This is the deal I got
                    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/691353

Read the JB hifi return policy. It allows you to return a product at any store provided it is still sealed pack.

                    • @jedimaster: Wait, so can you just sign up for 1 month and cancel the plan after so you can keep the phone? Does that work? Or can you just keep the phone and don't even sign up to the plan in the first place if they just give you the sim? Pls lmk

                      • @kypermaster: Until the sim plan becomes active, you don't get the phone/giftcard. Also, if you try to cancel the plan, you still have to pay the remaining term on the contract whether you use it or not.

                        • @jedimaster: okay so once you start the plan (which i assume you need to get the phone) you are locked in for the 12 months and can't withdraw earlier than that time window? So how do people make money on these plans?

                  • +1

@nson: Well you can refund/return at any store, the jbhifi website states so:
"To obtain a refund or any other remedy please visit your nearest JB Hi-Fi store or contact us"

      • Thanks man!! You enlighten me on these bargains

I thought it's worth sharing my recent complaint with Telstra. I have been their customer for many years thanks to this Ozb JB Hifi deal however, over the last 2 years I have issues with their reception especially indoor. Even Telstra Knox and Eastland staff themselves agreed indoor reception was s.h.i.t.

After some time, I complained to them saying this is a serious issue because for example, at certain spot within Eastland VIC, there was literally ZERO reception and in Wantirna South, at best for indoors, 2 bars. It was embarrassing enough when check-in QR was compulsory, I had to retrieve my certificate and it had no reception.

After nearly a week, they finally called me and apologized. To his credit, he openly admitted I was not alone in complaining about reception and here is the gist, he also said installing additional mobile tower is expensive and he will pass this complain to the Engineering team but it could take "months, even years" (I kid you not, that's his word-by-word).

So for those who are tempted with this, please be aware Telstra has openly admitted their indoor reception is sub-par.

    • This happened to me 1 year ago. Reception qas so bag around wagga I ended up cancelling jbhi telstra deal.
But Telstra was horrible. They tried to blame my phone. They realised they had connection issues and still wanted me to pay the plan. No way!

I got the TCC or so team involved and got me refund. Telstra reception is not rosey hot for all people.

      • I think there is a cause to escalate to TIO/TCC now.

You have to remember Telstra is the main beneficiary of the USO obligations (ie: All other Telcos are paying Telstra because of USO law).

In my case, unfortunately, I have a 365 days prepaid plan so I am not sure how they would compensate me even if I win my case. Certainly, I believe this has now fail the "merchantable" quality criteria under ACL.

I have just been to Coles at Knox (Coles 1, not Coles 2) and I kid you not, Telstra had "Emergency Call Only" signal for all data and voice. Fortunately I have another sim (Coles Mobile/Optus) and I switched but this is not on.

    • The reality of it is, IF they install any new towers now, it'll have to be 5G towers only. They won't install older tech anymore. The good news is, 5G towers are also 4G-compatible, so it will still work but they have a HUGE backlog of 5G towers to be built. So, good luck.

    • +1

Yeah I definitely agree , I’ve been with Telstra for my entire life since I got my first phone and in the last 12-18 months the coverage and reception has been so poor and I have a 5G tower literally 300m from my house. Once my plan ends I’m thinking of moving to Vodafone as Mrs is on Optus and it’s absolute garbage for her in metro WA.

      • I wouldn't expect Vodafone to be any better. Vodafone is has the worst coverage in my experience (from regional Victoria).

  • What is epp pricing for me who's been living under a rock?

    • I can only speak for the Government portal which is 20% off RRP for mobile.

  • +1

i had the S22 but I returned it because the battery life was a massive downgrade from my Pixel 5. The S22 needed the charger at 3pm. Pixel 5 can last until lunchtime the next day

    • Thats unfortunate i thought S22 series would be been better compared to the previous S series since now they're using Snapdragon…

I felt like a downgrade in terms of battery life when i moved from Huawei P20 Pro to S20+ 5G…

I wonder which flagship phones have the best battery life these days…

      • iPhone 13 pro max

      • pixels are supposed to have good battery life

the biggest iphone 13 will have among the best, if not the best battery life as well, but the 13 mini will be on the same level as a full size samsung (not great, but useable).

        • missus is using iphone 13 and has been talking about how good the battery life is… it's just that im not keen to make the switch to ios… never owned an apple device before…

          • @meong: it's a lot less customisable, which is irritating at times, but it feels a lot more polished than android. also pick your poison of google vs apple, i tend to prefer apple, but i wish it was more customisable. i would still go for an iphone as my next phone as i find Siri is better than google assistant as well and after years of ignoring voice assistants out of spite, i have actually found them to be slightly useful.

            • @[Deactivated]: I already understand all the above points which don't really matter but id rather stay on android since i have invested heavily on ecosystem…

I'm looking for an android flagship phone with good battery life atm…

              • @meong: i've heard good things about the google pixel, which is android, take a look at the latest version.

                • @[Deactivated]: But ive been reading comments of people complaining about pixel 6 😅

Id like to go back to google phone as i had a nexus 5 in the past…

      • GSMArena's endurance ratings are a good way to compare batteries… They don't test all phones but I think they would test all flagships. Not sure if there is any way to filter by year made. https://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3

iPhone 13 Pro Max, Realme GT2 Pro, and Poco F3 are some of the best performing flagships (or thereabouts) with 121 hrs, 117 hrs, and 114 hrs respectively.

  • Through my work i upgrade phones all the time.

I had a S21 and now S22. I can say S22 is a much better phone. Better size, feel and weight

The S21 i had nothing but issues I had two S21s and both had issues.

    • Wife has an S21+ and before that an S9+, both with no issues, expect she's much happier with the flat screen of the S21+.

  • After last years debacle, they wouldn't let me keep my old number, fast fwd 12 months later, im still dealing with the effects of 2fa going to my old number.

Huge pass, just not worth the drama of going through all that again.

    Otherwise would definitely buy.

  • Same deal good guys had a few months back. Good guys also had a weird thing that the 256gb was $299 upfront

  • I ended up upgrading my S10 for the normal S22 256gb using this deal two weeks ago, and I'm very happy so far. Paid 499 upfront, and am getting the Telstra plan for 49/month, and the additional $100 gc they had on promo then, so all in all $987 for the phone plus plan.

  • What’s this $20 off Telstra plan by asking rep that people are talking about? I’m currently on their $65 plan with iPhone 12 Pro Max contract , would I be able talk them into giving me the $20 off? And if so, any tips??

  • Is it better than new iph se in terms of processor?
    Thx
