    • Wow that is an excellent price, shame re-charges are so expensive.

above link removed the code, can use this one $230.66 PLUSMAY1

      • Recharge? Port out and in I always do. Some people just sign up and on Telstra chat get new account rolled over to old. Never tried that myself as some say no luck. I just port.

        • Do you have to be out for 28days?

          • +1

@OrderedChaos: Not unless it changed. I usually do a few days then port back.

        • What do you mean port out? Port out where?

          • @sqheaven: Cheap $2 optus sim then port back in as a 'new' customer.

            • @hobo123: Help chat told me I can buy a new boost sim, activate it and then transfer my existing number to it. I haven't tried it but I will recharge my current sim with 20$, that will extend 28 days and data will be rolled over, then I'll try the option of buying new sim.

              Can anyone confirm this?

              • +1

@sqheaven: Yes that’s correct. Have done this a few times now.

That's a bloody good price with a ton of data on a good network, but nothing beats Free.
I use the Woolworths mobile, where the 10% off A monthly shop, more than pays for itself. Only useful if you shop at Woolworths and can bulk shop and don't need so much data.
$140 for 12months but only 100gb (<$12\month). So the Kids also have 1 each on their own Everyday rewards card, so free mobiles for them, and they GIFT a large amount of their Data to me, they don't use much…:)
Only pain is tracking which everyday rewards card to use at the checkout, but have a system so all good.
PS: Woolworths is also on Telstra, but doesn't have access to 5g. At a high level Boost has access to the full Telstra network, yes there are limitations, but meaningless for most people.

    • Boost no 5g

    • Full access to Telstra 4G network only, and their 4G is definitely not as good as a couple of years ago.

      • What benefits are there from 5G over 4G……that make a huge difference to a normal mobile phone punter?

        • Zero unless your phone supports 5G. Personally my 4G is faster than my NBN (which by the way more than happy with). If you were using this as a hotspot for a high-powered PC in the city then great, but on a phone it's really just stats.
5G is a marketing term. Telstra operate three bands of 5G, low medium and high for different purposes. For example the high-band gets all the attention as it provides extreme speed, but has small range and doesn't take much to block at all, eg; paper, air pollution. So not something you can really take advantage of indoors without your own tower. It's perfect for open air stadiums, concerts, conference centers ect.. As you move down, you get less capacity but more coverage (distance)

          Low Band (700 – 900MHz) - Range
Mid Band (1800 – 3600MHz) Sacrifice capacity for additional range
          High Band (26-28GHz) - Capacity\Bandwidth

So really comes down to your use cases and proximity to phone towers. As an example, I get no Vodafone coverage at home, but get it at swimming where I have no Telstra coverage. As they say, location…location…location.

      • Call BS on that one, more likely your replacement phone\case has reduced the Signal.
4g growth has slowed down, but hasn't reduced coverage, still the largest by millions of sqm.
Boost has speed caps on the 4gx network, but that's meaningless for most people.

    • No international calls and no 4GX access the only shortcoming

Are there any deals/ discounts for renewing with Boost that people know of? Rather not port out and back if possible - but also want to stick with Boost when I see the feedback the other providers seem to be getting lately.

    • Excellent question, have searched in the past but never found anything to get excited over. On occasion they have sent SMS's for bonus data for an early re-charge, then bonus data for recharging, but never a discount for renewing.

    • +2

I contacted live chat multiple times recently and there was nothing they could do. They did say to buy the sim that's discounted and they could swap it over. Even though it said new customers they are happy to transfer your current number to the new plan without porting out.

      • This does not work anymore!!! I just tried it today. I spoke with a representative on live chat and was given the same information, but come activation, they didn't let me do it. Now I'm waiting for my new sim to be refunded.

        • EDIT: Was able to process the swap strictly via Live Chat. Make sure you don't do it through their mobile support!!!

      • Just tell them that you accidentally bought the starter pack instead of the recharge. I have done this now multiple times and they were more than happy to port my number onto the new sim.

  • Question for the OzB brains trust. My mum is almost at the end of a Telstra 12mo BYO plan.
    * 1) Can I port her out on the last day of the plan or do I need to pay another month on the plan to make sure we are clear of the 12 month contract?
    * 2) Can I port straight to boost from Telstra or do I need to hop to a non Telstra prepaid first?

    • +1

      1) Wait for the 12months to elapse, then you pay by the month. Telstra will pro-rata the refund based on the # days.
      2) Yes, can go straight from Telstra to Boost and visa versa.

  • Op, do you have any smaller 12 months Sims other than this one.

  • You can price beat this at officeworks for 216.60 delivered with luckymobile.com.au ($228).
