  • Does the remote work with the 4K stick normal one (not max) as my remote was bricked during software update? $14 looks good for remote…

    • +1

remote was bricked during software update?

amazon has great warranty, even without the purchase receipt, they do their best to help out.
got a old kindle replaced out of warranty without receipt in the past

      • Thanks will give it a try, ours was only bought a few months ago.

  • FYI - this is an older model of the Fire Lite, newer one was just released recently (currently selling for $49 at JB)

    • I managed to price match the new lite version with GG “old” lite version. With the perks cost me $13.60

      • can you share the receipt by any chance?

        • +5

Here you go. As always, tell them you want to do jbhifi direct, they send payment details to your number where you can enter the perks code

          • @kerim86: thanks mate. i got one. chick first tried to tell me that they do price match only in store than got transfered and managed to place an order With the perks cost me $13.60

            • @coolsteps: Wow, they said its below their cost price. Couldnt price match via their call center.

              • @Newbie aussie: BS, I actually got a price match over the phone for the new one without issues.
I think they say that not to affect their commission

                • @jayboi: Did your call connect to the contact center or a store?

                  • +1

                    @Newbie aussie: Contact center.
One person wouldn’t match, but I called back and another guy matched it for my no issues

        • Got told can't price match as a different model.
          Any tips?

      • +1

Surprised JB didn’t check the SKU lol

        • Same lol

        • For me, they said the photos on the websites were different, and model code was different so wouldn't price match.

      • @kerim86 after seeing your comment, I tried the same and got it for $13.60 using perks voucher.

        So Cheers!!!

    • Only real difference is the remote & since the new one doesn't have TV controls (unlike the max), the $24 "old" lite at half the price is the better buy.

      • Yup, extra buttons on the remote for quick access and improved Alexa voice recognition for commands

        • I'd rather buy 2 old lites for the same price. If the new lite has the proper "TV" remote it might be worth the extra $$, then again, may as well add $15 and get the max ;)

    • +1

The new model is only a update for the remote (app buttons, that's it), the stick is still the same 3rd gen Fire TV Stick (codename "sheldon"). You're literally paying extra on top of this $24 deal (if you can still find it) for a slightly upgraded remote.

$14 for emulation on hdmi stick? Pretty tempting ngl

    • Emulation of what? And how?

      • +1

Video games, namely to install RetroArch.

Will need to enable developer options for the ability to sideload apps.

  • +1

Does anyone know, can I use Kayo app with Amazon fire stick? Thank you

    • +1

You need to sideload it or use it through kodi, same with Binge.

  • +3

I have absolutely no need for this, but finding the $14 price tag hard to resist.

  • +3

$14 is too good to pass up, even considering installing custom firmware https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-unofficial-11-lineage…

  • +1

    It says in store only.

    • +1

Yeah, and none available in SA 😔

  • +1

Locked in google eco system…. Do i really need this 🤔

    • Amazon is the default in US as they came to market years before Google, Alphabet beat Amazon to Australia but overall Alexa is in more homes.

I think I prefer Google, but the Echo Dot is a bit better. A lot of devices like lights can be set up on both.

  • What are the differences to the new one?

    • +1

Looks like remote only, internals should be same

  • +4

    This is sooooo good!
surfshark VPN running on it full time (USA)

    HBOMax $60/yr via Colombia signup.
    USA netflix
    USA Prime

I love my chromecast, thats on the other HDMI port.. for ABC, SBS etc. so no toggling the VPN required.

  • Waow

  • How do we know it's costing 14$ with JB hi-fi perks?

  • +1

Dummy here… Can someone tell me if this would provide different functionality to my current smart tv (which already has Netflix, Amazon prime, Stan apps installed, or Chromecast? I'm reading articles online and they seem to do similar things

    • +1

I got one of these because my TV is a few years old and it struggles to run the apps (firestick runs much smoother). Also if your tv is very old you will likely no longer have the latest apps support, so another reason for this firestick

    • +2

Almost same functionality unless your tv’s smart interface is frustratingly slow due to poor software support from the manufacturer as it ages.

    • +1

If you don't have any issue with your smart tv, then no point buying this.

    • I think these v Chromecast is a matter of personal preference. As noted by others, if your existing TV runs those apps ok then maybe no need, but a lot of inbuilt TV software is poor/slow and these devices help in those situations. I have a preference for Chromecast for being able to control using my phone but these devices are cheaper than their chromecast equivalents.

  • Getting "Oops! We can't find the page you're looking for."

  • website down but in store still has stock, ask counter to check which store has it.
Bankstown has 1 this morning. Too far for me, may worth checking if you live nearby.

  • I got the new version for less than this price last week.

    • How much you paid and for which version? Can you please share the tax invoice if possible?

  • Sorry my bad. It is gen 2 and i thought it is the new one.

  • Missed it - any others around?
