  • Is there a surcharge on credit card ?
    I got charged 70.97
How to avoid the surcharge ? Is there other payments available

  • Origin BB is expiring at the end of this month. So will jump on this soon.

  • can the MAY100 be applied to the mobile sim plans? is it prepaid or contract and is a credit check done if you sign up for mate mobile?

Can we set the activation date to mid-June? Im with tpg and they said they require 30day notice to cancel my service, eventhough im not in contract with them anymore =/

    • +1

Yep, but you will get charged immediately. Seems they have a weird billing system. Either that or they are short on cash right now!

      • Cheers mate! do you know if we can have 2 providers activated on the same FTTP line? im thinking to get Mate earlier than that TPG cancellation date

        • +1

If you have Fttp yes technically the NTD supports a few connections but the issue is the new ISP may not allow it and their processes may disconnect your first port. Best call them up or request in the notes to connect it to another uni port . not many isp have a good ordering system or allow you to do it. keep us posted >?

          • +1

@coolsteps: oh i see! so i could have different ISPs on different ports. nice! thanks for the info! I'll request Mate to connect it to the 2nd uni port then

            • @clartan2015: let me know if they can do it ? i might do the same in june

              • @coolsteps: i chatted with their support and i was told they will use the next available port. seems standard to them? im waiting for my PPPOE login, then ill try. will keep you posted!

              • @coolsteps: i got it up now. so they set it up on uni-d2 and i have my other isp on uni-d1 =)

          • @coolsteps: Does this work with a FW NTD as well, do you know? A Mate phone rep said you can have 2 connections but the speed of your plan is split between the 2 connections, ie FWPlus 60Mbps but each connection would only get 30Mbps

  • Anybody got a new connection yesterday?
I got a new connection and have the same issue. Got disconnected in the morning. Have been on a call for an hour. TPLink modem was reset all correct details were entered still not working.

    • Same here. Switch last night, new details don't work and support cant explain why.

Did you get to the bottom of it @karansuper ?

Not sure what to do at this point other than move on to another provider.

      • if it helps, i initially had issue on the pppoe connection. What happened was the router i initially tried seems to be locked for another provider. So i used another router and that worked

      • +1

My NBN was working perfectly with my own modem and it stopped working as soon the switch happened. All correct details were entered still not working.

It took 5 Days, 2 NBN fault raises and countless calls. Eventually, after 5 days when I was going to cancel and switch it got fixed.
As per the email they sent the network self healed (Biggest joke I heard this year)

But, no issues after that. Very poor experience to begin with.

        • Ohhhh, I have the same situation with you now. Disconnected with the current provider this morning, entered all correct details but still cannot get online. Sign

@rfc850 : "Plus, this $100 credit offer is also available with our exclusive $40 for 80GB mobile plan as well."

does it mean $100 credit with mobile plan? or $100 credit with nbn + mobile plan?

    • Only when you bundle nbn and mobile. I've clarified that in the OP to be more specific.

Does the mate offer a view of the CVC bandwidth allocation per exchange? I'm with SP, and would like to switch, but without seeing the CVC graphs, i'm in the dark. My local CVC could be totally saturated for mate.

Also, mate uses Vocus for their international traffic, which is quite important for users like me that uses VPN extensively. Curious to hear internationals speeds, and not just local australian servers.

I WAS with mate for 4+ yrs.
Late last yr, something changed. (Management I assume)
    They screwed EVERYTHING UP!
So much so, when I cancelled and moved to a new ISP, they kept billing me.
    Just dreadful.
    Try TANGERINE NBN.

    • Had piss poor support from Tangerine regarding their own provided Google router. Hapless bunch.

Really bad & dodgy ISP provider. I was with them and ended up with an obundsman complaint and moved away.

    1) False advertising. It is advertised that the typical evening speed is 83mbps but I'm only getting somewhere between 30-40mbps during evening peak time

    2) Deceiving customers. Mate is detecting users accessing popular speed test sites (Ookla via speedtest.net) and cheating the results by boosting download speed temporarily for the test result. I have cross checked less popular speed test sites and confirmed this finding. This behavior is no different from Volkswagen "diesel dupe" scandal in 2015.

I signed up and specified an activation in early July. My connection was transferred TODAY which has caused me major problems. My old connection is cut and my new connection isn't completed yet so I am unexpectedly without internet. I will now be paying for at least a month of internet with my old provider that I won't be using. I am out of pocket and massively inconvenienced. Support has deeply apologised but nothing else. This experience has NOT been worth it for me.

    • sorry to hear that. I was planing to sign up with specific date as well. Now I think I won't do it.

    • This is concerning. The unofficial approach of putting the future activation date in an unrelated cell doesn't really work.

    • +1

This is horrible. They should give you free connection until the agreed transfer date. Definitely take them to TIO straight away. Don't let them get away with it.

I signed up. But due to the dodgy experience I will be calling support to attempt to cancel immediately.

First issue: The signup form displayed an error when I tried to submit my credit card details. "there seems to have been an error with your payment: Failed to fetch". Seeing this, I cleared my browser's cookies and re-filled out the form to attempt to re-signup. I got the same error message again. So, I wanted to give up on the signup. However, a few minutes later it seemed that I received 2 emails, confirming that I've signed up to Mate for an nbn plan twice, and that I was assigned TWO mate account numbers. The email said "If any of these are not correct, please reply to this email as soon as possible". I replied immediately to the email and asking them to cancel one of the two accounts.

Second issue: Was charged immediately despite indicating that I wanted the period to start later this month. Because I have 2 mate accounts, I received 2 invoices, both of which say that the billing period is Now until 1 month later, not the period that I asked to start (i.e. later this month)

Hope that support will refund me the charge and NOT transfer me to their network before I can get to a person.

After reading all these posts I am thinking of cancelling my plan. I agree about them charging straight away even with a future start date is dodgy.

If anyone is with Superloop and wishing to stay, contact their retention team on 0291387948 and see what they can do for you. I was immediately offered $10 off for 6 months, bringing my service to $59/m 50/20. No lock ins. Not as good as $100 credit but thought to pass it on anyway.

    • thanks for this! they initially offered $5 off but eventually gave the $10.

  • I'm on fixed wireless, will my speeds be the same with Mate as they are with ABB? Does the congestion in FW come from the tower and not the ISP, or have I got it all wrong?
Mate states FW Plus is 60Mbps and ABB states theirs is 75Mbps.

  • Great price, but connecting to USA west games server with Telstra was getting 160-170 ping
    but with Mate is 200+

I will stick with Mate till my free month is over then look at switching, maybe ABB

did some tests at 9:30 PM to the overall difference
    if anyone is interested

    • I play mostly with friends in South Africa and I am lucky to get 300ms.. mostly ots 300 to 350. But after the screwup with MyRepublic move and now back with mates my ping is 500. I checked speedtest and it use to always connect to iPrimus but now it just connecting from Wireline or something. So i think Mates either changed something or they have multiple people they work with. I logged a ticket but I think I'll just bite it and work with my hotspot and move to myrepublic with the hopes the gamer pro features helps.. but i also want a static IP so its a nice plus lol.. and getting a month free coz of how they screwed up so..

      • If you share the server IP, we can narrow it down and help you which providers is best for South Africa.

Select state, and do traceroute see what it gives you
        - https://lg.exetel.com.au/
        - https://lg.launtel.net.au/

One of those 3 will give you lowest ping to South Africa.

Exetel - Uses Superloop international transit
AussieBB - Uses their own international transit
Launtel - Uses GSL Networks international transit

Just switch to ABB and noticed a significant difference in download speed
I think Mate is using a very deceptive tactic of booting online speedtest, when really speeds are much lower.
with ABB downloading files much faster.

  • I just signed up and not impressed, speeds are sometimes dropping to 45 and pings randomly shoot up to over 300. I'm on ftth and been with many different providers and never had a problem before. Wish I'd stayed with Superloop.

    • That is indeed disappointing. What plan you are on and can you cancel and get your money back?

      • Theres a 30 day money back guarantee so I'll give it a bit longer. In the meantime I'll be looking at other options. I'm on the 100/20 plan.

  • Got a fetch error when signing up but it went though and charged my cc twice. How useless.
Now to call them up and get it refunded. Sigh….

  • +2

Signup process is just a pain, being charged prior to activation without any connection for a simple churn, is a pain, calling the team, getting a callback that just puts you back on hold… is a pain.

Only signing up because it's a bargain, but hey will see how their CVC's go once it's active.

Edit: Had to prompt them as the PPPoE details did not come through via email, so that's a pain too!

    • do you have the link where to see their CVC graphs? Cheers!

      • +2

Hey, couldn't find anything CVC wise for mate. I'll just be seeing how it handles those peaks from 7pm onwards. At this stage pay the bucks to AussieBB if you want CVC reassurance/knowing they'll up the limit as required!

  • +2

Almost a week now since i signed up and have buffering issue with Youtube! Starting around 8pm and been consistent issue every night. Can support do anything about it or its most probably that CVC? Ill reach out to their support tomorrow

Update to my previous post here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12121371/redir

I managed to cancel my 2 accounts with mate and also get the amount refunded successfully.

Breathed a sigh of relief. But lol, that was too soon, it seems that Mate had put in a transfer to transfer my NBN from my existing provider to them, and when I cancelled, they did NOT also cancel the transfer.

So today my nbn was transferred away and I was left without any internet. It'll take a few days to reinstate it. 🤣🤣🤣 Laughing at my misfortune of trying this company out

just had a 36 hour outage, not impressed

Just going to add on from my comments above now I've had a few days to use them further:

Peak time CVC congestion is real bad, last few nights have been a struggle to stream anything, when you're bumping down your streaming quality to SD and still having pauses this early on you can tell it's not going to get better, it's the case of if you can swap over to an ALDI 4G mobile hotspot and have a better streaming experience, you know it's not worth.

Pretty much - If your peak usage times are anywhere from 7PM until 11PM, don't bother with Mate, seems like they're happy to over subscribe, and for the extra few bucks a month for a provider who doesn't let that happen I think it's worth it.

  • +3

I've cancelled my connection with Mate. Too many issues from video streaming bufferring, slow connection during office hours and packet loss. Switched to Aussie BB and been solid so far
