My bad, I’ve fixed the title to non-prime members

Mine is $0. Ordered something yesterday for $25 and got free shipping from US

    • +3

I ordered something for $9.from the US (free shipping), 3 days later it was in Syd. A week later AusPost still have it with only "shipping delays" as the update.

Getting scanned at customs I presume. They never look that motivated on the telly, slowly wandering around suspicious packages.

        • +2

That’s when they know the cameras are rolling. Otherwise they’re like the security guards in old cops and robbers movies, sitting around eating donuts and coffee I presume. 🙂

  • Is this a permanent reduction in the threshold to reach free shipping?

I need two Worx Pegasus work benches. If my memory serves me correctly, someone bought from Amazon US and got it way cheaper than local prices? You can only get free international shipping if it's sold by Amazon directly, correct?

There's no way I'm paying $300 each full price here. Well, I want two, I could just get one, but in reality I could live with none for now. I guess I'll wait for them to come on sale again.

    • Wow looked up the price, $106 a year ago, now $299 standard. Every seller on Amazon US either wont ship to Australia or is charging like US$500 for shipping, even the base Amazon US seller is horrible, US$239 which is already ~AU$350 and with shipping 600+.

Ebay is cheapest I could find AU $203.67 with code + $10 shipping.

The problem is that the cost of a container from anywhere overseas to here has doubled. Containers were running as low as USD$500 pre pandemic but have more than doubled now. Shipping from the States has also gone through the roof to Oz. USPS until a month ago actually stopped shipping here due to too many parcels going missing. Also the standard rate for a parcel was about $20. It’s now about $30 to ship here. The price of fuel with the war in the Ukraine hasn’t helped either with fuel surcharges being levied for courier shipments as well. Most countries also have labor shortages as well which hasn’t helped production.

global freight is a sh*tshow right now, as ibuy mentioned container prices have exploded as barely any empty containers are going back to ports that need them. a 40 foot container might have cost on average about $1,500 from China to Australia for example, now they are close to $25,000 according to some of the importers I deal with. Crazy.

      • Yeah, I'm going to have to forget ever getting it for around $100. I'd jump at even $150 each now. $213.67 isn't attractive enough for something I have no use for yet. All those DIY projects can wait lol

        • You could try ebay with the 15%/17% discount on currently

    • Have you considered the Keter work bench? Available from Bunnings, badged as a Ryobi for $150. Seems to review OK. I don't own either. I don't know your use case, just a suggestion

Wish Amazon JP Ship to Oz.

    • +5

I had to read that three times, as I thought Wish and Amazon teamed up and now ship to Australia.

    • I used tenso to get a rice cooker from there. Quite a good experience.

Wow. When I made use of this deal last year, I treated myself to a case of Pringle's made in the US, since the ones we have here are made in Asia. Last year I paid $18 for the case, just had a look at the same product, it's now $30.

Pity the Aussie dollar has dropped so much recently.

    • +5

It’s not really dropped, but more so that the USD has gone stratospheric. Aud has actually gained on the British pound recently, so Amazon uk should still be competitive.

  • +1

The prices are still super high though so I think delivery is probably just included in the price now.

Clicking your link the second item is the Laurastar water filter (whatever that is). UK price £19.03 ~ $34 vs Aus price of $83.

    Unless I’m missing something?

    • +1

While you should definitely check the .uk and .com sites, the difference is usually only a couple of dollars - when you add shipping. Amazon's shipping rates are usually below market, I can't match them with a parcel forwarding service.

Amazon are the king of market analytics, I'm sure they have data showing they get more sales with "free shipping" and a higher price, vs a lower price + shipping.

However the £19.03 water filter you found are used prices.

I agree. They aren’t silly. Recently bought a big rat cage (25kg) from the US through Amazon and they had it on sale for something like $270 with $300 shipping. Then it went off sale back to $370 or so but then free Prime shipping applied! So I went for that.

I added 2 Lodge 12" pan to cart which is sold by Amazon US and delivery was $83.36 So not all items are included !!

    • +1

Sorry I shouldn’t have unpublished my previous comment - yeah items need to have the “Eligible for FREE international delivery” sign at checkout to qualify

      • +1

Ok so it's only for selected items, may be title should reflect this.

  • Big fan of the "Heinz Ketchup with Jalapeno (14oz Bottles, Pack of 6)". Has a really nice balanced tangy heat level. Every other mixed Tomato and hot sauce I've tried just didn't work. Free shipping on it currently $42.55. Hmm payed $32.76 6 months back… expensive sauce….

  • What are people buying to take up this offer?

    • 180 + vote so far, so must be popular! however I am struggling to find anything to buy, as the ones I wanted are not included for free delivery even though they are over the threshold.
