  • does anyone know if this board has "power saver" feature (ie. draw less power on standby mode than usual boards)? thanks :)

    • no, it is the normal surge board, not power saver feature

    • +1

You want a board from either the Belkin "Conserve", Jackson "Green Energy" or Monster "Green Power" ranges, those are ones that incorporate stand-by cutoffs.

Is delivery going to be free when the deal starts tomorrow (15/05)? Currently it's showing $9.95 for Sydney Metro. Not sure if it is a bargain with postage added.

    • you could always go buy one in-store

  • Damnit!
I just bought one 3 days ago… oh well time to go buy another one for the TV and PS3 xD

  • How is the surge board different to interceptor?
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/M7812/8-way-network-ready-su…

    • looks like that one has an rj45 in/out port, and this one doesnt….

      • correct. one has rj12 telephone connections and the interceptor has rj45 ethernet connections. both offer same every other feature including joule rating

  • Good find! Nice price for an 8-way surge board.

  • price is back up :O

    • starting from 15/05/2012,

  • Would this be enough for a PS3, TV, home theater system, monitor and a computer all connected on the same board?

    • +2

The limit would probs be one the wall socket drawing too much power, not the board blowing up

      • I see, would it still be okay for the wall socket? Just wondering if I should pick up one or two?

        • +1

At this pricing, I'd grab two boards with the TV, PS3, HT on one board and the computer and monitor on the other. That way you've also got some room to add whatever else you may need like a printer to go with the computer.

        • +8

You've only used 5 of the 8 outlets Yuri, you can still plug in a hairdryer, heater, & electric blanket! :p

        • +2

After you do what StewBalls recommended, you can leave a space and plug another surge board in your surge board.

No, I'm joking. Don't do either. It'll go boom.

  • Why is it still $89?

    • $29 now :)

  • Still showing up as $89 this morning?

  • For those who like having individual switches. I don't know much about power boards, green energy and the like. However the best reliability I've found was with this brand…Arista. 8 way with individual switches.

A switch on one of my old supermarket boards burnt out on one of the sockets so I'm replacing it with one of these.
$9 more than OP board and roughly only 2 left.

    • looks like this one is a good deal.. i might need to research and read more about this one. thanks:)

    • +1

this one has not lifetime guarantee and Connected Equipment Warranty

    • Pretty poor specs: only 1,550 Joules and doesn't have gas discharge arrestors.

  • Damn, just bought from closing down store for 15 dollars more, called that store said cannot return, anyone knows how to claim or refund?

    • Did you try returning to any other dicksmith store?

      • I will give a shot, thanks man, good advise,

  • The DSE boards are fantastic quality and for $30 you cant go wrong, however I am a bit worried on when DSE gets sold if the connected equipment warranty will still be valid.

    • when a shop is no longer in operation, i think any warranty is no longer valid. hence the "cheap price".

  • why no free delivery?

    Delivery Charge $9.95

  • Just bought one! I went for the interceptor because i Figured this made sense since I have a modem/router ..

  • Thanks for this. Just picked up one this morning. Shelf was still full of them and the price on the shelf was still $89 but they scan through at $29.

  • thanks op, picked one up just then.

    ctown still full of them.

dont get the diff between this one and the "surge net", besides the $60 price diff.

  • Displayed at the front of my store @ $29. Lots of stock

  • Just got 3, the store did not even know they were on special price tag said $89.00 but scanned at $29.00

    • +1

just got 1, it was in the catalogue

  • Can someone recommend a board with individual switches?

    • Looking for one with individual switches too - if anyone could advise, that would be great! Also just bought one of these online :)

  • Picked up 2 with lots left in North Sydney - also ran into a fellow OzBargainer at the checkout :-)

    • also ran into a fellow OzBargainer at the checkout

      how could you tell?

      • +1

They kept checking their phone and taking pictures of the receipts.

        • Guilty as charged. Got yelled at once by a snobby salesman for taking a picture of a price because it was easier to do so than finding paper and a pen to write it down or typing it up on my phone, was a really good price on a lens and was seriously considering buying it. Walked out of the store, not before telling the guy he just lost $2500 worth of sales and a recommendation to my friends about the pricing on that lens I was looking at before. Popped into another camera store with the prices from their website and got it price matched to within $50.

    • haha really?! When I've gone somewhere to pick up a bargain from the site I always wonder if anyone from here is doing the same.

  • just decided to buy a socket

  • Good deal, picked up two from Broadway yesterday. They had a couple in a bin near the front but if you walked around to the powerboard section there were a whole heap of them there.

  • Decided to pick one up today. Funny thing is that they have the original price tag there of $89 but the sale price tag they put up shows it as $29 but save $15.50. Perhaps the $89 price is no longer their normal price.

  • Still current and good buying. Looks like it's technically "old" stock, as there's a newer model since been released ($99) but the specs are pretty much identical, with seemingly only the physical appearance varying slightly.

Interestingly, Choice tested a number of surge protectors 3 years ago, and both Belkin and Arlec rated a fair way down the list.
