71081

This popped up as a social media ad. "As a Sydney University student, you are entitled to a free campus subscription to The Australian and The Daily Telegraph! Register for free access to leading local and international news coverage"

Not really a news person but free is free.

I am not a uni student, so signed up using my gmail account and it worked. Subscription valid for 12 months until May 2023.

Usually $7/week, $364 over 12 months.

Mod: As per brandogs comment it works on all News Corp sites.

      • Name some of these well researched news sources please.

        Am fascinated.

        • The Australian, of course. It has our Country's name in it, so you know it's good. Even better when they invite fringe blog post owners to write spiteful and downright racist articles and publish them under 'Opinion'. See their latest piece on the NZ PM or on the new White House Secretary, for recent examples.

    • +10

No, it's really not. It's a vehicle for some of Murdoch's most right wing henchmen to get their distorted views out.

    • +3

      Hahahahahaha

    • +3

You've admitted its downsides without giving any positives, but then call it the best newspaper in the country. Is it just your opinion that all other papers are worse than those specific negatives?

      • +1

Yes. People confuse the editorial line which comes from the senior editor, with the journalists. The Australian has the best journalists in the country and the depth of coverage and news breaking sets the agenda. The Age did a similar thing from the left until it was gutted by budget cuts

  • Thanks but rewards doesn’t work :(

  • +16

You mean you need to pay for being brainwashed to vote against your own interests?

    • It's free, so no need to pay.
Brainwashed - perhaps you need to seek medical help.
Vote against wishes - are you so easily swayed? That is sad.

  • +15

Murdoch can suck it, no way I'm joining his agenda driven pile of sh#t.
    Not even for free.

    Get your News from theguardian.com/au

    • +1

      Lol yeah right

    • +5

Be brainwashed my way he says.

Do your brain a favor kids, ignore what everyone says and read as much as you can from diverse sources. Be skeptical of everyone.

    • +5

      theguardian.com/au

Something something something different kind of agenda

    • +4

Yeah, I get all my facts from ex-KGB and Saudi's. Murdoch is responsible for the destruction of democracy… and Andromeda colliding with The Milky Way.

    • +1

So i can be feed green lefty sh#t by the guardian?

The news source that begs for money on every article.

Obviously, no one pays for guardian.

  • Cheers was paying $1 a week lol

  • +10

LOL! Don't do it. There's a reason why the organisation is called News Limited — it provides limited (real) news and there's a reason why their publications are given away by the thousand at airports (and now to unsuspecting uni students) — it props up their ailing circulation numbers and helps them disseminate their right wing propaganda.

    • +1

Yeah, they should be doing it the fair way and charging to disseminate their propaganda like The Age, Guardian, Independent, et. al. do!

    • LOL like ol' mate Rupert needs to espouse "right wing propaganda". There's quite a few countries he could buy by now…

  • +3

I get its junk, but still can login in the Apple news app for a lot of unlocked articles.

    • +1

Sorry for sounds silly but how do you do that?

      • +7

Find an article from Courier mail, Herald, Australian etc (News corp ones) and instead of signing up for Apple news+, click the already a subscriber to that individual paper and login. Then go to the other news corp ones and click it too and it'll login automatically. all for free for 12 months. these comments are ridiculous.

        • Yeah I think it's because I have Apple One which includes Apple News+ hence I don't see any log in pages.
Thanks for the instruction tho, hopefully it can be helpful to someone else :)

        • Very helpful.Thanks!

      • -1

It requires an Apple News subscription, most people have it as part of Apple One.

    • Now that is a real deal

  • just ugh

  • +10

Why would anyone pay for this propaganda in the first place? Absolute blight on journalism.

Check out The Saturday Paper if you're interested in actual reporting.

Nice I also got 3 months free access to Flash

  • I’m sure someone is paying for this somewhere and you’re all giving money to Murdoch

  • +4

Plenty of haters. We know who they’re voting for.

    • +6

Murdoch used to support the ALP once upon a time. I guess we should be thankful the ALP shook that monkey of its back, even if it cost them a few elections over the years. Yeah Murdoch cost us the full NBN plan, but there would have been no NBN plan at all if ALP stayed in bed with Murdoch.

      • The ALP would take any news sources positive spin and leech it to death.

    • +8

Yes and we now know who you're voting for

  • +4

Am I the only one here that likes Right Wing views and news?

    • +1

Perhaps you should read this website I've heard of, Twitter?

  • +3

Can’t wait to read the DT while tucking into a hearty Youfoodz meal.

  • Does it actually work? I want it for their crime/True Crime content.

    https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/truecrimeaustralia/police-…

I did it, got the confirmation email and signed out and back in again. That link doesn't work for me and it takes me to the subscribe page - https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/subscribe/news/1/?sourceCo…

    edit.
Must be because of one of the bypass add-ons I have. Tried in another browser and it worked.

    • Click login & then it took me to the story (without logging in)

    Thanks OP.

The comment section on every article is just boomers raging into an echo chamber. I would never pay for Murdoch, but this gives me the chance to access commenting ability and ruffle some feathers for 12 months.

I encourage you all take up the offer and comment away.

    • +7

Be careful that the feathers being ruffled aren't your own.

      • +3

Goes in to ruffle feathers, becomes one of them in a month.

      • +3

        Jesus Christ… it’s a nightmare. I’m deleting the account.

    • Mate, I'll think you find its not boomers but under 30's scared of things like the real world.

    Legend thanks OP!

  • +5

Ugh, not even fit for me to line my rabbit hutch to collect poop

  • +2

    Nice!

  • +3

Free is free. Thanks for sharing OP. Some articles are ok read others are not.

    But I don't care cause it's a bargain

  • +7

Anything Murdoch will get a downvote from me after his blatant one-sided coverage of this election.

  • +1

yes, I do support the conservatives.

  • Doesn't everyone just read the papers for free through chrome extensions?

    • Which extension do you mean please pm

  • +3

Don't get carried away just ignore all the political stuff there. Abc news is the only decent material on election.

Take the freebie do whatever you want with it.

  • +1

I didn't know OzBargain was a far left website until I read through the comments here. lol Australia is full of parrots 'right wing', 'Murdoch media. Most people especially the ones in Victoria sound like a broken record. Lile the ABC is not government sponsored propaganda. There are no journalists left. They are all content creators and are bought out by someone.

    • +14

Murdoch owns 70% of the media in this country and runs outrageously biased stories that favour the LNP all over the country and on tv. It’s just ludicrous power over our democratic system. Left wing/right wing, no one should have that level of power.

Claiming the ABC is government sponsored propaganda is one of the biggest leaps I’ve seen. They are probably as biased as they’ve ever been, thanks to Liberal Party funding cuts and the installation of right leaning board members, but they are far from the likes of Sky News and the Australian/Daily Telegraph.

      • The problem with your statement is this. You have to pay for Sky news so it doesn't brain wash as many people as the ABC does :)

        • +9

Sky News is free to air in regional areas: https://www.skynews.com.au/business/media/a-new-freetoair-ch…

        • +2

You have to pay for Sky news

Not on Ch56 outside the capitals
          https://www.skynews.com.au/sky-news-regional

so it doesn't brain wash as many people as the ABC does :)

yep, ABC has higher ratings. Although it is a bit more balanced. They've been fairly soft on incumbent governments around the country the last few years.

          • @M00Cow:

yep, ABC has higher ratings. Although it is a bit more balanced. They've been fairly soft on incumbent governments around the country the last few years.

Yes they should be harder on the federal and NSW LNP for sure

        • +1

Sky news - free in regions as already pointed out. They also have a huge presence on Youtube and other digital platforms where their content is free.

      • but they are far from the likes of Sky News and the Australian/Daily Telegraph.

At least that part is true!

    • +6

ABC has been trashed by the LNP or as put by others put into a state of managed decline. They do have a slight right wing bias despite the yelling heads on Sky and rants by News corp "jurdanlists" . They are however still more reputable than most of the commercial sources.

  • +1

oh nice. Thanks a lot for sharing.

  • +7

These aren’t newspapers, they’re thinly veiled Liberal Party propaganda masquerading as news. Negging because this may as well be a subscription to spam. Not a deal.

  • Genuine question: What is a good credible news source, guys?
Edit: I mean what news source is good/credible?

    • +1

Try the non-fiction section at your local library
News is relative - if it’s new to you, it’s news.

      • +3

        Common knowledge.

        Evidence that disproves it, please?

      • +5

Rachel Baxendale having a job as a journalist is enough proof.

      • +3

        Evidence please

        The Age, Guardian, Independent, ABC…

  • +2

Even if you disagree with the more "opinion driven news". The Australian's Business section is pretty solid - often covers financial news faster and better than the AFR.

  • +3

    Good for toilet paper

  • +5

I don't read the Australian or other murdoch publications, and won't be taking up this offer, but all the people negging and launching vitriolic attacks on anyone who likes this paper are pathetic.

    • +2

That's because only Murdoch has 'destroyed democracy' and 'destroyed Australian journalism.'
All the other media (owners) are sugar and spice and all things balanced.

      • +2

        except Nine, Seven-West, etc

Commercial Media owe the Federal Govt big time for the shakedown they did on Google & Facebook on their behalf, which have to fork out $200m+ to subsidise them about the same amount they used to actually pay in taxes.

      • +2

I pretty much only watch the ABC, but their left wing political activism really does get me annoyed. It is much more mild than Murdoch media in terms of bias, but they are the public broadcaster so its totally inappropriate. Every few months a journalist from the ABC will take their activism to the next level and run for labor in parliament.

Is it wrong to hate the Murdoch media but subscribe simply to have access to the Daily Telegraph's AFL columns?

    • +1

You’ve got to get the information from somewhere, and it’d be naive to think each doesn’t have an agenda, or choose what or how to say. Just don’t believe everything you hear or see.
