Free 12 Months Digital Subscription to News Corp Websites (The Australian, Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun etc.)

71081

This popped up as a social media ad. "As a Sydney University student, you are entitled to a free campus subscription to The Australian and The Daily Telegraph! Register for free access to leading local and international news coverage"

Not really a news person but free is free.

I am not a uni student, so signed up using my gmail account and it worked. Subscription valid for 12 months until May 2023.

Usually $7/week, $364 over 12 months.

Mod: As per brandogs comment it works on all News Corp sites.

NewsCorp have embraced Cancel Culture. It's Political Correctness gone mad!

    • But the Libs are bouncing back baby! I saw today's headline quoting the newspoll….which shows they aren't.. bit what do newspoll & the Australian public know???

    • Newscorp's hot takes are always self serving and hollow. They also target a younger audience depending on the publication.

For those who just missed out, Western Sydney University also has a free subscription on their website: https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/subscribe/news/1/?pkgDef=D…

A$$hole company cancelled my sub and is now spamming the sh!t out of me via email and SMS.

  • +4

Such assholes have cancelled my subscription and are spamming now ! Such a bunch of losers

  • Sky News is hilarious! Labor are about to win and they've spent 2hrs harping on about Kristina Keneally and how she might lose! After the banner admits Labor victory, they're saying Morrison will stay as leader and how bad Labor is

And apparently we know China supports Albo.

Revoking my positive vote because of NewsCorp’s dirty tactics of cancelling all our subscriptions. If they stuffed up, they should have still honoured the subs to try and get some good will.

  • I sign up for this, and been using it, half way through the election night it’s died, won’t let me log in…

Mine cancelled too. Was considering renewing after the 12 months out of goodwill. Now will never subscribe with them again. At least have the decency to honour your mistake, especially after spamming my email and mobile. It’s not even costing them anything in real terms, highly doubt those that subscribed for free would ordinarily subscribe to pay, so it’s just a bitter move

  • All my subscriptions were cancelled….

    • All your subscriptions belongs to Rupert

Sure, it's taking advantage of something intended for a different audience, but without security and checks they stuffed it.
I think in that case wear the stuff up rather than worming out of it afterwards.
Most places would've just been happy enough to wear it and close the loophole.
News.com choose to be slime-balls as usual and worm out of it by cancelling subscriptions without notification.
Not far different to their journalism in the first place, just look at all those aggressive election "press conferences".

  • I'm still hanging on.

  • +1

Yeah mine has been cancelled too.

    Mine has been cancelled too.

But I was reading the election coverage while my sub was active and the political agenda they are pushing is so blatant.
So many opinion pieces bashing Albo on the front page; questioning his every policy. Meanwhile barely a negative squeak about Scomo.

They can have their lousy subscription back, thank you very much!

  • I registered it was successful said that paid by employer or something but now it wants payment details

  • Yeah, the bastards cancelled all mine too, really disappointed, I was enjoying the Oz especially.

  • They are also cancelled mine. bloody Murdoch

This was cancelled after few days. Looks like they only wanted to collect information.

    • +2

Looks like they didn’t want people getting a $364 subscription intended for a select few, being free for punters!

  • Yeah cancelled. Pity that I'm not able to browse the post-election screeching on The Oz, that would have been a bit fun.

I wonder if free subscriptions for 18-24 year olds were cancelled?

    • +2

I can confirm I’m am much older than that 18-24 year old group and also copped a cancellation after one day’s access.

(I used a throw-away email, but I suppose they will use the sudden surge of subscribers to ‘prove’ their marketplace, um, ‘leadership’.)

    Mine go cancelled too!

Oh well, I don't think they realise aussies are a resourceful bunch.

    Go to:
    https://github.com/nextgens/anti-paywall

Click on CODE button and download the zip file and extract it.

Go to Chrome > Extensions > Enable Developer Mode on the top right hand side > Click on Load Unpacked and select the extracted folder from previous step. The extensions should be enabled by default.

You're set to go,,,, through Herald Sun's paywall at least. :)
