Not really comparable, this is a network drive rather than USB

Anyone know if I can use this as an Itunes server?

    • +4

Yep, this one is Networked mate

You might want to reread the post.

IT is a 2TB NAS for $169, not just a HDD, as you are comparing to. expect some negs!

i wonder how you missed the router in that picture?

      • +5

Or the 10 or so mentions of it being NAS, network storage, wireless, cloud, streaming, etc!

        • USB can do all of that…and more! It can also make you a steaming hot cup of coffee in the morning & well, let's just say a 'Handy J' is not out of the question! :p

  • This is the network version(min NAS).

they sell this at officeworks - 5% off??

i owned one of these for a month - but had real issues transferring files to/from the drive (kept getting the bsod). i blamed this nas - and it turns out it wasn't the nas's fault.

seemed pretty good for what it was - but i ended up getting a buffalo 2 bay nas instead which is much better - has inbuilt torrent, 2nd bay, better remote access to files.

but for $180 (incl postage), this seems a good price for this unit.

  • if i connect this drive to the same router as my TV and blueray player, can i play movie from this drive onto my TV?

    • +1

Yes that's what I want it for

    • You can via a ps3 / Xbox so I guess so if your player is one of those networked wireless ones.

I have been looking at a WD and seagate. They both have a two drive version but they are over $400. Ouch.
      This 2tb seems a bargain.

I got the 3TB version in Jan for $199. Good drive, works well with my TV and Bluray.

    • .< don't know it is the networked version

      • Yer it's not

        • +1

That was the 3TB version of the same drive in this deal. I bought one myself at the same time, it uses gigabit ethernet…good drive IMHO, that price hasn't been bettered (or even approached) since! :)

  • Do people find this faster than a USB2 connected external drive (see here for differing views http://www.sheldmandu.com/sbs2008/gigabit-ethernet-vs-usb-2-…)?

  • can some1 explain why this is better than a Apple Timecapsule?

    • I am not sure whether you can access the time capsule via your ps3 or can access it on your android phone or remotely but I know this is 169$ ad apples is $319

      • You can access this on ur Ps3, XBOX etc think your iPhone too
