    awesome price nice find!

They were $49 at Centrecom so not the best price, but still pretty good.

  • great price

Light enough for ikea 'invisible' shelves too, for a nice wall mount.

Easy choice over a sub$100 soundbar.

    • +2

Serious question, how will this compete with a medium level soundbar?

      • +4

Two decent speakers (w/ built in amp here) will win over cheap soundbar: better stereo imaging, better frequency response due to larger mid-cone, just better due to being more specialised. But takes up more space etc.

      • If you wanna spend a few hundred; you'll move into entry level atmos stuff, and you'll benefit from 3d imaging and such.

However; on a purely 2ch source; you'll be going 'a long way up' to compete with dedicated 2.0 speakers.

24W RMS isnt small; a stock, basic car headunit for example puts out 7-12w RMS, and they can get fairly loud.

      • Just double check your room size.

sound bars are good for smaller rooms.
larger rooms benefit better from actually surround sound with rear speakers.

  • Worth it to spend the extra $5 for the R33BT? Which is better? R980T vs R33BT.

    • +1

      Just had a quick look.
      R33BT are 5W each and R980T are 12W each

      • Is the extra W worth it over BT?

        • Wattage determines how loud they can get.
The BT version roughly has the same wattage as car speakers.

          • @Yer: Loud doesnt mean quality

            • @pharkurnell: No it doesnt but more power on tap means less chance of distortion when there is need for power Eg. A crescendo in a song (if you're into that kind of stuff)

    • 10W w/BT & 3.5mm aux vs 24W & RCA. Depends upon what you want to use them for, how & and where. I'd go the 24W for a desktop studio speaker config unless you particularly wanted BT.

  • Is this bluetooth? Does it connect to a MacBook?

    • Nope, no BT.
This is but they're 5W each instead of 12W each.

  • +4

    Very nice.
Just so ppl are aware, no Bluetooth here, or optical, or remote control

  • Genuine question, how would these go on top of an acoustic piano, if you ran say a 6 channel mixer and a couple of mics + acoustic guitar through it? Could also be good for playing tunes through them and jamming along? Or would it not have the grunt. Just in like a lounge room setting.

    • While not 1:1, RMS wattage is a good guideline to go by for volume, before distortion.

      Pianos come in all volumes.

This is 24W RMS; consider that some of that will be lost to the crossover and tweeter, and Id probably compare it to a 20W guitar amp.

Long and short of it; the piano might dominate slightly, but it'd be a big step from being unamplified.

Consider how loud a set of good PC speakers can get at probably 1/4th this power.

I bought these today. I'm no audiophile but these are the successors to the 1280DB's I think. BT + Optical at $139

    • The non Bluetooth version had a huge discount recently!

      • +1

yeh I got them $89 sitting next me in the box still and a new fridge and washing machine :(
        damm addictive ozbargain

        • +1

Haha I completely get you. Checking many times a day buying things you didn't think you needed. I was tempted to buy r1855db even though I bought speakers recently just because of its simpler connection.

New fridge and washing machine, lol. For me it was skateboards, haha

Buy one of these if you want to turn an analogue connection device into a Bluetooth device, both TX and RX and has 3.5mm jack, RCA and optic fibre connections, this fixed my latency issues and other issues between my Fetch Mighty TV box bluetoothed to my Sony SRS-XB23 Extra Base BT speaker (compact, reasonably loud and nice base and bonus portable) as this BT RX/TX device has low latency, so instead I have this hooked to my monitors 3.5mm jack out to this BT RX/TX device then bluetoothed too my Sony BT speakers, so audio is coming out from my Fetch Mighty hdmi out through to my hdmi PC monitor (monitor has no speakers) out of 3.5mm jack of my monitor, to BT RX/TX device then bluetoothed to my Sony BT Speakers fixing original audio sync issues and no audio sync issues at all with this setup

JEOEUS 5.0 Bluetooth Transmitter Receiver,Bluetooth Transmitter for TV, Optical Fiber Digital , one Drag Two Audio Transmitter, 3.5mm AUX, RCA, Low Latency Wireless Audio Adapter, Suitable for Earphones https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08FT3G9DF/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_5…

    • Is the BT connection always on, or do you have to activate it each time?

  • Just bought a new PC and these are very tempting. Just not sure where I'd fit them on my desk..

    • Due to my limited table space I am using the Soundcore motion plus which I am really happy with, anyone know how these speakers compare with this deal? Just curious.

  • Could I plug these via RCA cable into a powered Logitech subwoofer that is directly connected to the computer's 3.5mm headphone jack?

    • Such as the old Logitech Z4 setup maybe? You can of course get a cable that has the RCAs in the subwoofer end and a 3.5mm jack in the speaker end, so it would be physically possible to connect. But, and I might well be wrong here, your subwoofer RCA outputs are already amplified to a speaker level signal, whereas these speakers expect a line-level signal. What would this mean in practice, I don't really know.

  • Getting it for $75?

    • There's a 20% off voucher there that makes it 60$, but it ships from a different seller.

      • Oh I see. Thank you!

  • +1

Do these have an Australian power plug?

    • +1

good question.. sick of adapters everywhere..> :(

  • How would these compare to say the creative pebbles with subwoofer? And could i repurpose said subwoofer for these?

    • These are much more powerful based on my understanding of the Creative pebbles which are powered by USB in.

  • +1

I can only see 15% coupon.

    • Probably finished from people buying it.

  • +1

The lack of volume knob on the front seems impractical to me, for use as PC speakers. Am I missing something?

    • +1

Leave the speaker on a set volume and use your OS to change th volume.

      • I guess so, but I've always liked being able to just reach and turn the knob when I get an incoming call.

I'll have to train myself to reach for mute button on my keyboard :\
