  • Is this the same one for a bit cheaper on amazon?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Miele-Blizzard-Vacuum-Cleaner-Grap…

    • Yes

    • +6

      575 on Amazon no?

  • +2

I'm still using the Miele S5212 I got from godfreys 8 years for $299 from this deal- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174346

Is the Miele Blizzard CX1 much better?

    • I think this one has bagless tech and has longer cable.
But S5212 is 2000W and this is 1100W

  • $585 now on DJs, looks like deal expired

    • +3

20% discount is applied at checkout

      • cheers

    • +1

Not expired, 20% discount applied in shopping cart after adding it.

      • Did you go to checkout? Its working for me once in checkout

  • Do any of these have suction control in the handle, the buttons in the handle that change how powerful it is?

    • I think ot has the valve on the handle that can be opened to reduce suction

      • I mean like this handle controls mentioned here, including a button that turns it on and off https://www.miele.com.au/domestic/1785.htm?info=200046164-ZS…

        • i went to my local good guys earlier to take a look at this one (CX1 in grey) and the handle on the demonstrator was a basic one with no buttons. However, I didn't go to DJs so not 100% sure they are the exact same model.

  • Just about every comment I read online says to avoid the bagless ones like these - what gives? Are bagless just not worth?

    • +10

Bagless is fine until you have to empty the thing, then you get a face full of dust.

    • +10

I have a bagged Miele and change the bag maybe twice a year. Beats having to clean a bagless one frequently.

    • +1

      Bagless is fine.
Hasn't been an issue for 8 years with my old dyson.
Just don't stand too close to the bin when you empty it and have some thought of where the wind is coming from if it's windy.
Some people just want to crash through life in Hulk mode and this might be too much for them.

      • -2

Well… by definition when you empty the vacuum the dirt you vacuumed up now comes out. So even if you do it outside, it'll be releasing some of the dirt there that you've cleaned up.

It's more the case that some people vacuum dirt up to get rid of it, not just move it from one place on their home to another. And bags are the clean solution for that, whereas bagless isn't.

  • +3

How does this compare to Miele C3 cat&dog

    • Curious too

    • +1

Nearly half the power at 1100W vs 2000W for the full fat C3. I haven't looked in to it very far as I'm not overly interested in it but I'd also say the C3 has a better filter system. This one just says lifetime filter or something where the C3 has an active carbon filter to remove odours.

Without a doubt it's the best vacuum I've owned. We've got two dogs so go through a few bags a year but it's not an issue for me. Takes both hands and a reasonable amount of effort to move the thing on my carpet as it sucks itself to the floor that well

      • +1

yep agree C3 is the better one but was a bit confused regarding which one had better suction as it says Cx1 has a 1,200 watt vortex motor unsure what the "vortex" means and if it can compare to the c3 2000 watt

        • +4

Choice Magazine has both models in their January review and the C3 scores higher and gets a recommendation. This model is rated slightly lower and didn't get a recommendation.

        • Vortex is a reference to the bagless system for collecting dirt bit not clogging itself immediately. Bagged vacuums don't use such a system.

    • +1

C3 is more powerful and I find bagged vacuums to be superior as they stay clean inside with no need to clean since everything is contained within the bag, my C3 looks still looks new inside after 2 years.

      • +1

C3 is the best vac I've owned. Lots of power and features.
I suffered with a Dyson for 9 years won't go back to bagless ever again. Once you get past the gimmick you quickly realise that collecting dust into a plastic bucket only to have to put it into a bag so that you can dispose of it makes less sense than going straight to a bag.

  • Solid vacuum, been using this one for about a year now for a 4 bedroom house. The power cable is very long so I find that I don't have to change the power plug as much in comparison to an old Dyson I had previously (Don't remember the model). It cleans and succs well. The dust compartment is very easy to take apart, clean and maintain.

  • I refuse to buy a vacuum under 2.5k

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/705187

  • How does this compare to Dyson v6 or v7? My Dyson’s battery is dying and we moved to a bigger house.

    • This one has cord, it’s not wireless.
Not sure if that will impact your choice.

    • I say it's best to combine a Miele C3 with a Dyson v8 especially for a house, for like a town house or unit just a Dyson will do
the C3 does the majority cleaning while the cordless dyson is used for cars and areas/spots that need a more regular cleaning

    • I actually have both of these, the cx1 is awesome, heaps of power, pretty quiet and does the majority of the house with no drama, I use the v6 for the stairs and a quick spot clean of the kitchen if needed.
Can def recommend at this price.

I've got a C3 and it just about sucks the paint off the walls, but I actually hate it from an ergonomic/user pov.

*Before I start my rant: The unit is about 5 years old so I'm not sure many of the c3 attachments are the exact same.

Rant: With the C3 I legit have to wear hearing protection on the highest setting, it gets hot as hades after only 20 minutes-ish, the large filters don't last nearly as long as they should, there is always an issue with the bags (whether the top doesn't close properly, the 'lids' are bent or broken, or air leaks around it etc), the wheels get stuck and the unit doesn't turn easily anyway, the cord is too short, the vacuum hose itself is also too short which means you have to use the Turbo Mini turbobrush by essentially picking the whole unit up (given the restricted tilt of the attachment), using it as a person who's 6'1 requires you to stoop constantly.

The soft rolling pet brush doesn't come apart to clean with any ease what so ever, so you often having to use scissors to cut the hair that's curled around it. The dust brush attachment collects all the dust you pick up rather than actually sucking it up etc etc.

Miele Corded Vacuums have an almost cult following online, and the power is really superb, but the ergonomics (at least on the older-ish models) are absolutely dreadful imo.

    • +1

You shouldn't normally need to use it on the highest setting. And if you're doing that for 20 minutes of course it will get hot… like a 2400w heater running for 20 min. That's a lot of power.

    • oh feel like it should be a warranty claim, always use it highest or second highest setting and have had mine for about a year, it works wonders for me and the sound isn't that loud, the cord being short I get, have to plug it three locations to get our big house cleaned but feel like it is the standard size cord.

Unsure when your problems started but feel like it should have been warranty claim or upgrade.

    • +1

Sounds like you just don't like vacuuming

    • I agree on some points re the loudness, it's inability to maneuver easily and the brush heads but I always run it on max and for around half an hour to clean our house. Doesn't seem to be excessively hot by any means. No issues at all with genuine bags or their fitment either. I find the lid only doesn't close when the bag isn't properly inserted so it's a good safety feature to ensure the bag is properly located for me.

In case people want a comparison Choice magazine included this model in their latest Vacuum reviews January this year.

It rated at 75% which was 16th out of 48 tested, despite others that reached the same score it didn't get a recommendation from Choice and that's probably because it scored 65% in the quick clean test which is four passes over the carpet, but it did score very well on the pet hair test. This doesn't mean its a bad choice by any means, that's a very solid score its more like the others at that level performed better across the board.

For comparisons the Dyson Light Ball Multi Floor + scored 81% the Miele Complete C3 Cat & Dog PowerLine SGEA3 79% Miele Compact C2 Powerline SDAB4 76% and the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Multifloor Extra 75% as well.

Also interesting the Miele Classic C1 Powerline SBAF3 & Miele Compact C1 Young Style Powerline SCAB3 were also 75% but reccomended.

The Miele Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog Powerline SKCR3 was rated 74% and missed a reccomendation.

    • That’s odd, from what I’ve seen people commenting in the past the Miele c3 is much better than the Dyson. Has much more suction.

I have a Dyson light ball and a v10 and find I need to make quite a few passes to pick up some pet hair. Was hoping the c3 was as good as people say it is

      • yeah c3 is amazing but I tried the V15 and it beat C3 (when V15 was on the highest setting) but it's like 3 times the price lol
unsure about V11 and lower models, do know V8 doesn't stand a chance against C3.
I am hoping Miele comes out with a new corded vacuum that can beat Dyson until like V30

        • What setting was the V15 for to beat the C3 and what is the run time when it's on that setting?

I'm yet to find a handheld that matches my C3 and can manage to clean the whole house (about 300sqm living area 70:30 tiles:carpet). Handhelds are convenient but certainly have their limitations. Bit like robovacs I think.

          • @whitelie: Highest setting and last like up to 10 minutes or something just did the free trial to experiment, isn't good enough to replace C3 permanently yet

        • I never use my V10 on the high setting cause it'll only last a few minutes before the battery dies, quite useless really lol. I imagine this is what the C3 feels like at all times seeing as people have said it feels like it's stuck to the carpet.

I don't get that stuck feeling with the dyson light ball

          • @johnnytran: Yeah really liked the suction power was really amazed when I first got C3, it pulls the carpet up a bit when using C3 on highest setting which was why I was amazed about the V15 on highest setting as it still got stuff out of the carpet after I went through it thoroughly on the Miele C3, it was very little fine dust particles and not much, but still didn't expect it at all

        • It's the noise difference too that makes the miele a much better choice for me. Running a 5yr okd S8 and still feel it'll beat many (corded or not) at twice the price on the performance and noise factors. Does require a bit of upkeep costs but still think it's worth it, particularly over a bagless.

  • +1

I will be looking to get a bagged C3 when the price is right, have owned the CX1 for 2 years now.

It’s a good vacuum for sure, and has served me well across all floor types - I don’t have the pet hair head which would be handy though.

    A few problems for me:

    • The multi-floor head doesn’t pick stuff up off the floor well, and often you need to raise the head and pop it back down on the floor or large particles to suck it up. It also has built up a layer of what looks to be calcification or rust which I’ll be cleaning off thoroughly under the head (could be moisture).

    • Emptying the dust canister, fine dust filter/cartridge, cleaning and washing it out is messy and not as hygienic as a bagged system. The cartridge also is prone to bad smells, needing a wash/dry/disinfectant with alcohol regularly.

    • Constantly having the vacuum stop mid-clean for a “comfort clean” cycle whereby it tries to mechanically shake dust off the cartridge a few weeks after it’s been washed is all very annoying.

    • The replacement filters aren’t available without purchasing a whole new ~$175 cartridge either - link.

    • The little brush head attached to the first part of the hose lost it’s ability to lock on within 3 months of buying it, and needs to be held down to make contact with surfaces.

    • I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve jammed my skin on fingers, thumbs and palms in between the pole extension adjustment mechanism…huge blood blisters kick my a$$ for weeks. That could be user error, need to stop holding the pole…

  • Heads up, orders are being cancelled due to not enough stock.

    • Can someone help me with finding out the running cost of Miele bagged vacuums? Like how many bags needed a month/year for a 4 bedroom house with 4 kids
