Geez that was quick. At this point I reckon I'll just wait a few weeks.

    • no reason to buy before 30/06

      • +1

why ??? I am considering to buy this .

        • +9

If you need one now. Go for it. The fact that it's not sold out in 5 mins tells me that other stores will probably follow suit, and maybe prices will get lower. So no rush. But it's a decent price.

          • +1

            @khaez: :), personally I prefer 3060 12G , but for 150.00 difference , I will wait for 6600xt include delivery under 400.00

            • +1

@Giga: Can I ask why you prefer 3060? I've seen many videos and and benchmark comparisons and it shows 6600 performing better

      • what happens after 30/06?

  • +9

    HODL

    • +35

So HARD !!! gaming on GT710 for the past 2 yrs

      • +24

You are a legend for not giving in.

      • +4

if you ever feel the itch i suggest civ 5, you'll never need to upgrade again, become the coveted HODLer of last resort

        • +2

Mate civ 5 is legendary. Can play it on my old Dell Inspiron 11 3000 N3710… if anyone remembers those $300 gems

          • @Gojkins: yeh you can run it on almost anything, particularly if you use strategic view which i'm used to

the war mechanics are quite fun, just do war runs on higher difficulties occupied me for a whole year, since its chaotic by design you'll have almost infinite outcomes from the same start. definitely a gem of a game

        • +1

At launch at least civ 5 ran worse on my machine than crysis. The load times were huge and just scrolling around the static map where nothing is happening due to being turn based was often very slow with texture pop ins.

          • +1

@CodeExplode: probably true think i remember sitting there waiting ages for new turns, but its much better now

      • I overpaid for my 3060 1.5 yrs ago and your story makes me feel so much better about that decision.

        • +5

Hey as long as you've gotten enjoyment from its use, that's all that matters.

      • +1

        He he I'm on GT730

      • -1

better to use Processor Graphic .

      • Imagine gaming on a GT710 for 2 years just to wait to save a few hundred bucks.
If you had of just spent the 700 or whatever the 6600XTs were worth months and months ago, by now you just would of forgotten about it.
I paid 1900 for my 6800XT Red Devil and I don't even care that its now worth 1300, iv had the card for 1 year lmao.
What's 600 bucks of extra money in a year? Nothing.

        • $600 is a lot to me.

          • @KLF23: Your missing the point, 600 over an entire year of waiting is not much, id understand if it was a month ect.
Think of all the gaming and High FPS you would have for that entire year.

        • depends on your use case, if you enjoy all the new games then knock yourself out

i've only played 2 games made after 2020 and the only real reason i bought an rx 480 was to try cyberpunk, i'm no spending more than $100 to play 1 game

there comes a point when the classics are going to be better than most of the junk they keep rolling out each year

    • Yep prices can halve from here.

  • +12

hodling hard with rx570 still going alright! Must resist! Lol

    • +4

I didnt expect to see another 570 homie here. Stay strong friend!

      • +3

        Same here 570 bro

        • +2

          I used a 470 foe 6 years :)

      • +1

        Handshake and soldier on!

        • What card are you waiting on? RX6600 or better?

          • +1

@SweetChilliPhilli: Probably better, since the next gen is gonna drop in a few mths.

aiming for 4070 if it's as good as advertised and reasonably priced (not expecting a huge bargain but yea)

    • Isn't the price already good?

      • +1

Price is good and for anyone need a card right now, go ahead.

Just saying the recent price dropping trend is no where near finished, so if u can hodl, hodl.

  • +1

Some people don't like Eagle boards.
    Not sure why?

    • oil leak

    • +4

Thermal design issue. 3x fan performs the same as other 2x fan cards. Gigabyte Gaming OC is suppose to be the better variant.

      • three fans overkill for something that has so much thermal headroom. these 6600 series really overclock insane, reaching their limit before thermals becomes an issue.

  • Not a bad price!

  • This or 1080 for 200-300?

    • +6

      This or half a PS5 ?

      • -1

        Why the nonsensical question?

        • +9

I think that you started with a nonsensical question

          • @Darkheartz: How is it nonsensical? I have seen one for 200 and one for 250 (and many for 300).

            • @s1Lence: I actually thought the 1080 was worse (or the the RX 6600 XT was comparative better) than it is really, so I'll retract my comment! Seems like the performance/price increase is fairly on par?

              • -1

@Darkheartz: Yeah, seems like the 6600 XT is only a bit better, 1080 is 6 years old now but still holds up. Just worried about how long it might last (and if the thermal paste will need replacing).

          • @Darkheartz: Glad I'm not the only one who thought so too

    • ive never seen a GTX 1080 sell for $200, and the ones ive seen on bookface for $300 get snapped up fast, but at the going rate for a 1080 being somewhere between $300 and $350, id still go for one of these instead. GTX 1070s and 1080s have a relatively high failure rate from what ive seen, and many of them will likely have been abused/mined on.

      • -4

I have, so if there was one for 200 would it be better

        • +1

By the time you've asked the question, the one that you might have seen for $200 (assuming it wasn't a scam) will have been sold.

          • -2

@xyron: Nope still there, idk why you arent just answering the question with the provided information

            • @s1Lence: Post a link to it then.

              • -1

@xyron: Why would I do that? Lol if you don't want to believe then don't believe it ain't that deep

                • @s1Lence: Your response proves that you know it's an unrealistically low price.

                    • +1

@s1Lence: Already sold, and probably in minutes. Still doesn't disprove my point that $200 is an unrealistically low price for a 1080. Show me one that is actually available.

                      • -1

@xyron: So you can buy it? No thanks, do your own research if you want that deal.

                        • +1

@s1Lence: If they're available regularly at $200, it shouldn't be a problem to share the deals (which of course can be done in seconds on Facebook anyway). The fact you want to keep the few that you might find close to your chest, again, proves that you know $200 is well and truly unders for a 1080.

                          • +3

@xyron: I never said it was regular, I was asking if a 1080 for $200 would be better than the 6600 XT for $400. You just made a big fantasy in your head out of a basic question for no reason, not sure what's up with that.

                            • +1

@s1Lence: what was clearly implied in your question was that $200 was an attainable price for a 1080. It isn't a realistic price on the used market. You yourself seem to at least accept that the going rate for a 1080 is $400.

So to answer other stupid hypothetical questions you might have:

You should definitely buy a $400 3060Ti over this

You should definitely buy a $400 6700 XT over this

You should definitely buy any other GPU that is worth more than $400 but sells for less than that on any given day because a seller doesn't know what they have!

                              • @xyron: Attainable for me at $200 != regularly priced at $200
Reading must be difficult for you.

                                • -1

@s1Lence: Ah, descended to the ad hominem arguments, well done. BTW if you see a Lamborghini (or a house) at 50% cheaper than market price, you should buy one of them too!

                                  • +1

      • +1

So what is my 1050 ti worth on friendface then?

        • +1

It's a good question, used prices have tumbled in recent weeks (unsurprisingly, given the drops in prices on cards like this 6600XT) but i'd suggest it's still worth about $100.

          • +2

@s1Lence: So $150 is the going rate for a 1050ti but in your eyes $200 is the going rate for a 1080 (with roughly 2.5 times the performance)? You must be trolling.

            • +2

@xyron: No, the going rate for the 1050ti is a wide range from $100 to $200. The going rate for the 1080 is an even wider ranger with the cheapest available being sold at $200 and going up to $600, which is evidenced by looking at the marketplace. Average 1080 is probably like $400 or so, doesn't mean you can't get a better deal.

            • +1

@xyron: The pric-:perf correlation for used cards (and new for that matter) almost disappears when you get down to the low end, there are still people buying gt1030s for $100 because they just need something that will run a monitor. Mix in the cluelessness of many buyers due to market volatility and them not browsing ozbargain every day, and it makes sense these cards sell for a wide price range and often sell for terrible price:perf ratio. Eg, why buy a 1030 when $20 more can get you a 1050ti, etc.

    • +3

I would get the 6600XT, 1, warranty and 2, future driver updates,

    • +1

I wouldn't risk it for a 2nd hand 1080 they're so old by this point. Performance probably wouldn't be wildly different whilst the 1080 is working.

    • +3

      Well check this out. A rx6600xt is crushing a 1080ti… so a 1080 is trash vs a rx6600xt

      https://youtu.be/LZF2PANyCTA

  • +8

I got the MSI one for 750$ and I thought that was a good deal. 3 months down the line, it is 350$ cheaper.

    • +3

My new card has dropped $100+ in 2-3 weeks!

      • my rx 6600 i bought a week ago about to do the same lol. but it's fine, they can't drop so much ill lose 100 dollars….6600 will need to be $286 for that to happen an if it does that's just insane. i think current prices are a good price to performance ratio. not insane, just appropriate.

  • +1

    how low can you go

  • +2

Down, down, gpu prices are down!!

  • Giga…gone. They couldn’t pay me to have this. Total and utter giga..boycotter. If you have to ask, look it up.

    • +1

3 fans are just excessive for a 6600XT.

    • +1

      Please expand?

    • But gigabyte are premium components? Are you saying all giga or this card specifically?

      • +2

Issues with warranty (pretty poor aftersales support), not honoring promotions (SSDs specifically) and the use of cheap thermal pads on "premium" cards are the biggest issues with Gigabyte imo. Stopped buying from them after that.

  • Goddamn, I caught a falling knife

  • Pretty good value, might jump soon.

    • +12

R U OK?… How can we help bring you off the ledge?

      • +10

        can you hodl me?

        • +4

Of course… just step away from the edge..

        • Depends. Does username checkout?

  • +4

Good Deal, 6600 XT is slightly better than 3060

  • +3

This had to happen after a slightly better model, Gigabyte Radeon RX 6600 XT GAMING OC 8GB, was priced $409 yesterday: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/706626
