Apple does NOT sell anything with 24 months warranty

    • +27

They actually do, just don't specifically advertise it. Their 'consumer law' coverage of an iPhone is automatically 24 months no questions asked and longer if you make a valid case.

      • +1

Yes, it is ACL, not an Apple warranty.

        • +8

It functions as a warranty in Australia, because it warrants the device for 24 months.

          • @Deals For Days: Just out of curiosity, if we buy an iphone from a website like this or from ebay kind of marketplace, from which data does the warranty start? Is it from the day we purchase the phone from the seller or is it from the date the seller purchase the phone from apple? Otherwise does the apple track the date that we first turn on the phone and activate the warranty from that date?

        • +5

Without limiting consumers rights, Apple will provide its own remedies equivalent to those remedies in the consumer guarantee provisions of the Australian Consumer Law at any time within 24 months of the date of purchase. For the avoidance of doubt, Apple acknowledges that the Australian Consumer Law may provide for remedies beyond 24 months for a number of its products.

It's coverage provided by Apple so its a warranty.

          • +1

@vodamerc: actually, if you want to be picky, it's consumer guarantee provided by the ACL. Apple still has to provide a remedy, but it's not the same as the included warranty.
Warranty and Guarantee are NOT the same thing, even though we as end users may not easily tell the difference.

            • @uncyspam: Not until you want to use your cc's extended warranty.

    • +3

      lol foot in mouth

    • +4

Judging by your comment/post history, you do not like Apple.

That is fine, spend your energy for more productive things in life rather than trying to persuade people not to buy a product. Especially misleading people thinking they're not covered by Aussie consumer law.

      • -5

I think you struggle to read or understand my posts. I have always said that there is ACL in the second year and that the first year is Apple warranty. These are facts, regardless if i like or don't like Apple. It is simply wrong that Apple offers two years warranty, and that is all that i have said.

        • +1

I read the above quoted text and it appears you are wrong.

      • I think it is the other way around. We, Apple fanboys, sugarcoat this too much.

The official warranty period as shown on the phone is 1 year. You can check it with your iPhone. The second year is ACL forcing Apple to honour. If Tel$tra gave me a dodgy iPhone and iPhones purchased from an Apple store show 2 years, please let me know.

        Why does this matter?

        1. Because when you are overseas, where ACL does NOT apply, you get a different experience. There are also countries where accessories pretty much have zero warranty (unless you can prove they are DOA). I tried the excuse Apple AU would do the warranty, it made zero difference.
        2. I don't think your iPhone tells you when your second year is up. Once the first year is finished, it doesn't show you any date information about that second year. That second year is ACL enforced, not something Apple is doing willingly.

Apple AU does dodge replacing a lightning cable with a hair line crack, claiming it is accidental damage. You want better accidental damage cover, pay Apple for AppleCare.

It's better to write 12 months warranty (with ACL covering another 12 months / or your credit card company offering additional warranty insurance).

    • Apple does, they have caved into the ACL laws. I recently purchased something from their apple store and that's what I was told.

    • I DO insist on FULL ACCC compliant warranty: They think such a device should last a good time!

    • +2

Apple only does 24 months for local Australian stock regardless of the retailer. If this is a grey-import it will only be 12 months.

  • Is this genuine though, can I really trust this site? Would it be the same purchasing from say JBHIFI compared to this site I've never really heard of ?

    • +1

Cellaphone is on eBay as well if you want to check more on their reviews (100% positive reviews with a Top Rated Seller badge)

Here’s a direct link to the similar product on their eBay store
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/304232210655

      • +1

IT seems they have a physical store in QLD but after checking their facebook page there is a couple of negative scam reviews.. so a little undecided now.

        • +4

I purchased the iPhone 12 from them last year and it was 100% genuine Australian stock, brand new and sealed, and arrived very quickly from QLD. Exactly the same as buying it from JB, Apple, etc. :)

        • I've bought from them through eBay, it was all good.

          Where did you find that?

          • +7

@dosada: If you scroll to the bottom of the site you will see the "about our store" details.

            • @iNeed2Pee: Must be on the desktop page only, on my Android none of that is visible but i can see it on my PC

              • +1

@dosada: No actually it is there but you might have to press the + in order to have it be shown under "main menu"

Scroll down and you will see.

    • +3

I purchased my iPhone 12 pro Max from this store last year via EBay. The phone arrived brand new and sealed and the customer service was excellent.

    • I bought my iPhone from their brick and mortar store in Adelaide Street in Brisbane. They also have an outlet in Garden city. Will vouch for them (if that means anything.. lol) as they've given me a decent deal and the people were really nice.

    • I have bought from their eBay store. I was not sure about the store as well but their low price was deciding factor. Got a brand new AU stock and their delivery was super fast as well.

  • +1

    Apple do dual sim now?

    • +11

Yes , since ages. One real Sim, one esim

    • +1

Yes, one physical and one eSIM.

    • Yes for a while now.

  • +5

    So expensive.. I mean it's a phone

    • +17

Exactly - it's a phone, probably the most used piece of technology that most people own. In terms of $ per hour of use, even the most expensive phone is cheap. This phone will last you 6+ years if you want it to, so the price isn't really that bad.

      • +9

Hmm. Almost 2k for a phone that is about to be replaced by a new one in a couple of months time? You'd probably get iPhone 14 Pro Max for the similar price in September.

        • +1

Just wait until Sept for prices to drop a bit when new iPhones release and maybe use some of tax money

        • +3

Or just wait till next year and get the latest iPhone at that point.

        • 14 pro = 13 pro max.
14 pro max = 13 pro max 256gb or even more.
That's the predicted price for iPhone 14.
But the base storage could be 256 for both.

        • So what are your expectations here, that there be no technological progress?

      • +2

If there were no cheaper phones for 300-500 that do the same, i would agree with you

        • You won't find a 300-500 phone with 6+ years of updates and flagship performance and top of the class cameras and battery life though.

      • This is my view too. What other device worth 2k do you spend 8 or more hours on every day of the year? Total steal in reality I think

      • -3

Disagree… Max 3-4 yrs… After that u will start to face various challenges like application limitations and slowness.

      • great logic.. not

      • +1

So to say these are underpriced?
Ah yes. Should probably be priced minimum of 10k then.
        Would that satisfy your logic?

  • Are you sure we get 24 months warranty with Apple? So I would show the invoice from Cellaphone & Apple will cover under their warranty from purchase date?

    • I bought my current iPhone 13 pro direct from Apple and it only has 12 months warranty

      • +2

I think what the OP is referring to is the additional 12 months covered by ACL.

        • but Apple doesn't explicitly advertise that, so a store can't do that either for an Aus Stock

        • So with ACL, can I go to apply at say 20 months with a warranty issue and they will still cover and fix? Even if purchased from CellaPhone ?

          • @graceyym: Pretty sure they will. I’ve claimed warranty for multiple iPhone/iPads within 24 months and they have no problem with that. One exception is battery, they only cover that for 1 year.

            • @Aimforfun: You should able to claim warranty on battery within 2 years as it's not removable.

    • +1

warranty starts from when you register it, goes by the imei number, its 12mth warranty + 1 year acl

    • +5

Overpriced, maybe now its coming up to 1 year old. But junk? Hardly. No one can deny these are brilliant devices.

      • +7

        You need meds, not negs.

        • -7

username doesn't checkout, surely you can comment something better

  • +1

When phones reached $1K in price years ago, I thought it was ridiculous. Now, they are reaching $2K so I guess $3K is next.

    • I don't understand the multiple comments hating on the price of the item. Why is the price ridiculous?

      • +4

i dont think price is so much of an issue if the phone is more repairable. However due to how unrepairable the phone is, given how careless people are with their phone, 2k phone which cant be repaired doesnt sound like a good investment compared to other phones does it?

        • +1

You buy phones just to sell them for a profit later on?

          • @Salty Pretzel: I buy phone to use and if i so unfortunately break it i would rather fix it than buy a new one. i dont have that much of a disposable income unfortunately

      • -1

Because I spent $549 on my pixel 4a 5g and I would use it just as much as this iPhone and do exactly the same stuff… I won't get $1200 more out of an iPhone or any other brand (my work phone is an SE nad have owned iPhones in the past, so yes I'm well aware of Apple ecosystem)

  • What iPhone supports 2x Nano SIMs? Not interested in eSIM/Nano SIM, eSIM/eSIM combo.

    • Some overseas model do.

    • I heard iphone for China has that.

    • Due to government regulations, iPhones manufactured in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau are the only iPhones that let you use two physical nano-SIMs. Here are the iPhone models manufactured in these countries that allow such usage:

      iPhone 13
      iPhone 13 Pro
      iPhone 13 Pro Max
      iPhone 12
      iPhone 12 Pro
      iPhone 12 Pro Max
      iPhone 11
      iPhone 11 Pro
      iPhone 11 Pro Max
      iPhone XS Max
      iPhone XR

      • -1

I think it's manufactured 'for' not 'in'.

    • Refer to: Using Dual SIM with two nano-SIM cards

In short, not available in Australia. You need to go through grey import.

  • +3

Given iPhone 14 is only 2-3 months away, I’d rather wait for that, which will land me around the same if not cheaper with 10-15% off gift cards

    • +1

Hoping there might be some good iPhone 13 deals around Black Friday in November perhaps

    • Any places to look for gift cards?

  • Pricematch at Officeworks?

    • Not with coupon

    • No they won’t if there is a coupon code used

  • When a phone deal is the price you paid for your first car it’s a little steep yes.

    • +1

Was your first car 9 months old and purchased within the last few years? Not really a valid comparison is it?

  • The cost of high end phone has doubled. Has your income doubled?

    • If you have stayed on top of your career and kept a high end status, yes it should have.

  • +1

Sheesh, with all the recent inflation we can look forward to $5,000 being normal for phone costs. It's insane. Is it really worth buying an iPhone 13 Pro Max now when the iPhone 14 is around the corner?

    • In your scenario of $5000 phones around the corner, I’d have to say yes

    • Depends, the iPhone 14 Pro Max 256gb will probably be $2400..

      • word going around they had to use camera systems intended for the 15? and is gonna be pricier than intended

    • 13 max pro 1TB is $2700

  • Am i missing something:

12months warranty apple warranty + 12months acl vs
    a 24month warranty.

From an outcome and pragmatic perspective; would you expect any difference in terms of the service provided to you (without going into speculation).

Or is the conversation in the threads more focused on the words and definitions related to what is a warranty vs what is not considered a warranty.

    • iPhones and Apple Web site showing the official end date of the warranty is still 12 months. The additional 12 months is mostly ACL and most bundled Telco phone deals in Australia are 24 months.

Consumable parts (batteries, protected coatings) may not be covered by that ACL.

It depends on your perspective. If you are trying to resist buying this, then you really should consider this as 12 months Apple warranty only (don't let the ACL protection creep in to cloud your judgement). If you really want to buy it, then yes, you do get effectively 24 months of warranty (excluding accidental damage).

  • I think OW can’t price beat because of coupon code ?

Edit : never mind saw the comments above

  • Just out of curiosity, if we buy an iphone from a website like this or from ebay kind of marketplace, from which data does the warranty start? Is it from the day we purchase the phone from the seller or is it from the date the seller purchase the phone from apple? Or else does the apple track the date that we first turn on the phone and activate the warranty from that date?

  • +1

    When you activate it.

  • +4

I bought from these guys and my phone cellular was bricked from the get go since they sell phones unbundled from sim plan, had to go to Apple store to replace all the internals which they luckily did for free.
