[Audiobook] Project Hail Mary $0 for Subscribers @ Audible AU

1370

Was going through my Audible wishlist and saw that I could add this to my library for $0. Unsure if it’s for members only but hopefully some of you can make use of it. Really enjoying it so far!

I just finished this about a week ago. I do recommend.

    • Totally agree. Great book, really enjoyable and well performed too.

It does get a bit into the weeds of science topics at some points (classic Andy Weir, he's a stickler for reality in the details) but it's great stuff if you're nerdy like me.

    • +3

same, just sad I used my credit when it's free now :/

      • +2

I got an email just now giving me a voucher since I already own it! Check your emails.

        • +2

Same! Nice gesture. I think I preordered this one.

  • +3

Great book, I listened to it a couple of months ago. I absolutely loved it. There’s a film coming in the future, I think Ryan Gosling bought the rights to it.

  • +3

It was okay. A bit too much deus ex machina at times while trying to avoid spoilers. Definitely not as good as the martian.

    • +9

I preferred this to the Martian but both are good 👍🏻

      • +3

Fair enough. I think I'm in the minority on this one though. It is a fantastically done audiobook however.

        • +1

Wil Wheaton is great in all his books.

He as a narrator was the only reason I could finish 'Ready Player 2'

          • +6

@free hot drink: R. C. Bray is the real Martian.

Also, Protect Hail Mary is narrated by Ray Porter.

            • +1

              @f4te:

              R. C. Bray is the real Martian.

100% .. Removing his narration from the stores was a big mistake.

Luckily I had already got my err.. 'Linux ISO' of his narration before that happened

    • +1

      deus ex machina

Definitely understand this feeling. A lot went wrong too though

    • It had some significant annoyances but the good stuff is really good. Very glad I listened to it.

Yeh. I agree. I would recommend this audiobook.

  • Is it part of the Plus catalogue ?
If you buy (free) from the plus catalogue do you get to keep it and read it after you stop the subscription?

    • No, you don’t access the plus catalogue once your sub ends.

      • Can I download it all now and block the Audiable app (from accessing network) when my sub ends?

        • You can only download books locally that you own. The others play in the the app and can be cached within the app but that needs logging into subscription otherwise won't play.

    • +2

This book is the free book for members in July, so if you add it to your library in July you will be able to access it after you cancel your subscription.

This is hands-down Weir’s best book. I’ve listened to this audiobook twice in a row after a friend of a friend recommended it. Best recommendation for a book I’ve ever received. Awesome Sci-fi

  • +1

I also recommend this audio book.

    Amaze!

    • Hahaha

  • Great audio book. Best I’ve ever heard.

  • Thanks OP. Great find.

  • Thanks for sharing and for the comments from the ones who have “audibly read”, grabbed it and looking forward to it….

  • Awesome audio book and best sci fi since The Martian which is one of my all time favourites.
Can't wait to see the movie.

  • Loved this Audiobook, listened the whole thing on a holiday. It was better than the holiday! Another rec for Audible I got from here is The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, listened to that in 2 goes. Very good!

  • I'm on my 3rd read. Martian also very good. Ive finished Bobiverse as well. What's a good next book?

    • +3

Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson is very good. It's read by R.C Bray and is up to like the 13th or 14th book now. I've only personally listened to 4 or 5 of them but it's a little similar. Not as scientifically realistic as The Martian or Project Hail Mary.

      • +1

Can recommend Expeditionary Force as well. I am reading 5th book now and its quite entertaining although probably not as scientifically accurate as Hail Mary still quite a good addtion to space sci-fi genre.

    • +2

Depends on what you're looking for. I highly recommend the Three Body trilogy if you like the harder scifi. It's very different to phm and the Martian though.

    • +3

      Space specifically?

      Red Rising trilogy
      Expeditionary Force
      The Expanse

    • Thanks all! Sounds like Expeditionary Force is something to look into. Also I've heard the Expanse is worth a read. :) Cheers

    • +1

Try the Murderbot Diaries series by Martha Wells - light and fun sci-fi.

  • +5

    Happy happy happy

  • +2

Ray Porter puts down of the best audiobook performances I've ever heard in this book. The main characters thoughts and emotions are preformed masterfully. Great stuff.

  • +2

Well narrated and well written, up until the end. I was left feeling "really?" at the choices the main character made in the last few pages. Up until then, it was a great listen, and overall it's good.

    • +2

Interesting. Hard to take get into it without spoilers obviously, but while I thought the ending was a bit too neat maybe, I found it matched perfectly with what had happened throughout the book

  • +1

Ordered the paperback last week after asking around for suggestions on something to read after finishing The Expanse series. Don't think I could do the audiobook while WFH, though I used to do them when I would commute three hours a day.

  • Great book.

  • +6

Bought it and loved it on release, didn't know Audible did it, but they sent me a $14.95 voucher code (effectively a free credit) because it's a free title this month and i already own it.

    • +2

Just received the same voucher, came here to post the link :)

    • +1

Was upset last night because I used a credit on it last month but haven't listened yet, but just got the voucher too.

    • +1

Just got the same voucher as well. Bloody excellent

      • Vouchers and credit only for active memberships. I bought as well but membership currently inactive. No such love given to me. Aw!

        • +1

If you sign up again, such as through this returning customer offer (ends today!), you can request a refund of your credit, then purchase it again for $0.00.

I just did this, still have the book, and got my credit back.

          • @TimeOrMoney: That 2 Months for $0.99 offer is targeted and no such luck for me unfortunately.

CORRECTION: I just tried again today and hey presto now shows as 0.99c. Excellent as I did what you noted and got the Credit Back. Thanks for suggestion.
I do know you can request refund on books but wonder how many before they ask questions, not that I would do this as Authors deserve $$. Only on crap book I might!

  • Great book!

  • I recommend "From Beyond " also narrated by Ray Porter
