What is Sony WFXXX ? A description such as earbuds would help

  • How do I get logins for TGG Commercial?

  • -4

I got them from goodguys yesterday. Isolation and noise cancellation is not as good as my WH-1000xm3. Lack of multipoint connection is annoying. Overall I'm happy that didn't take the risk of going with other brands as I was satisfied with Sony.

    • +13

you are comparing nose cancellation of earbud to headphone?

      • -1

I wasn't giving a full review here. As I said overall I'm happy with my purchase.

  • Got this last June for $330 from Sony online (price matched Goodguys commercial preorder (price error)) plus Amex deal at the time.
Nice upgrade from XM3 which I sold for $130 but call quality is still poor.

  • I'm sure this has been asked (sorry) but does TGG Commercial take TGG eGift cards?

    • +1

      No they don't

      • Thank you!

    • +1

What you can do, is generate a purchase receipt, and then bring it into a store to purchase with physical cards if that's an option for you

  • I’m keen to see what you have lined up tomorrow for your ozbargain anniversary, BG

    Is this a good dishwasher?

      That's the WD1000XM4

  • Can connect to two pairs at the same time?

    • +4

You can pair a pair, but you can’t pair two pair unless you have a full house

  • +1

sub $300 makes these ideal as a tax claim - even thought you'll be waiting until next year to claim.

    • any example of excuse to claim these for tax purpose, in case ato audits?

      • I require a headset or wireless headphones etc. for conference calls, meetings and answering my work phone handsfree.

        • can one can purchase obscenely expensive (>$1k) audiophile gear headphones and claim similarly? (assuming don't mind the multi year deduction)

          • +1

@selphie: arguably yes, however, you'd potentially have a harder time arguing that this was exclusively for income producing purposes etc. I suspect on data matching this would raise a red flag and you might get a please explain.

Not sure it's worth the hassle and potential expense of an audit to be dodgy about it.

            • @Bargain Slut: fair enough cheers. so in this case for $270, would you claim 100%, or 50-50?

              • +1

@selphie: depends on what my actual intended use of them are, these will probably be claimed as 80% work which is realistically how they will be used - I have other over-ear headphones that I prefer to use for recreational purposes.

          • +1

            @selphie: Proportion work use %

Ps still happy with the XM4 over ears for general use (leave them at work), comfort and noise cancelling is great, the tech good and sound is reasonable (not audiophile but Plenty good enough for portable/travel).

$300 in Mar 21 still a good price

    • Why sub $300?

      • +2

if something costs <= $300, you need to claim it fully for that financial year, as opposed to multi year depreciation.

How does a business apply for a TGG Commercial account?

  • In earphone are never worth spending this much on. Just get cheapies from amazon. Soundpeats are pretty good, can get noise cancelling too for ~$50

    • I agree.

    • +1

You are comparing some earphones that just randomly spit out white noise templates in hopes of cancelling out noise as compared to something that is analysing sound waves and adjusting white noise to the source.

One is cheap because it has the noise cancelling box ticked and one is expensive because you are paying a premium for something that works.

      • Look up soundpeats reviews. They do active noise cancellation, and are favourably reviewed against expensive ones like these

        • Prob an alright generic brand but sent a pair back before, too big and hurt you ears
Probably decent for $30 if you find the correct model (there are heaps)

          • @G-rig: Yeh. The Free2Classic fit my ears perfectly, are smaller overall. I've fallen over in the bush and they were still snugly fit. Mini Pro's are a bit bigger ironically, don't fit as well but meant for smaller ears I guess. I am curious of the sound quality of the H1 or H2 (their top models) in comparison to something like XM4

    • +2

If you don’t care about sound quality and noise canceling that much that’s fine. It’s not worth it to you, but the idea that they’re not worth it period is clearly wrong given how many people there are that DO CARE and spend money on earphones.

If you don’t care about audio, then these were never an option for you to begin with.

      • I just think that people mostly pay for the branding/marketing and/or aren't really fussed and just get to range. These probably do have slightly better sound quality than a good quality budget pair, I just don't think its worth it. If you really care about sound quality, you'd wear over hear headphones.

      • Yeah some people don't know or care about decent sound quality. Most tech people probably just spend more on PC parts and mouse pads.

Each to their own what spend money on.

    • +1

      Nonsense.

Once you get used to good audio, you never go back.

These things are comfortable enough you forget they're there, have the active noise cancelling on the market, have a good battery life, and just plain old sound good.

You can't pretend it's 'never' worth spending that much for something you're going to get hundreds of ours of use from.

      • Soundpeats / other good budget models have all those features. These probably do have slightly better sound quality, I just don't think its worth it. If you really care about sound quality, you'd wear over hear headphones. In ear earphones just aren't good quality sound period.

        • Again - absolute nonsense.

You can't (usually) take full sized headphones with you out of the house, and certainly not conveniently in your pocket. Can't imagine jogging like an idiot wearing full sized headphones.

They might cost a bit more, but they certainly hold up in sound quality to other wireless headphones. The cost is a modest increase as a longish term investment. And at home you'd use wired if you wanted the best and were stationary.

I wear decent headphones at home, and these sound great regardless. You're wrong, and as many respected viewers have said - these DO have good sound quality, full stop.

PS: Period is a yank term, ya seppo.

          • @Grazz989: Maybe. I just said I don't think its worth it. I'd rather spend the $100-200 difference on something else. I don't think there's that much difference in sound quality to warrant that price.
I'm skeptical in ear earphones can even achieve Hi-fi quality, but perhaps - technology is crazy. I'm also prone to losing them.

Yeh I didn't like using period, but my brain typed it and I went with it. Didn't realise it was yank, thanks for the lesson

            • @JoeSchmogan: You 'just said', quote "In ear earphones just aren't good quality sound period."

Which is objectively wrong. Yes, they're not as good as wired headphones hooked up to a good amp, but we're talking about a sub $300 package, all of which you can fit in your pocket.

What Hi-Fi says: We’re quite taken by the Sony WF-1000XM4. Given all the design changes and new features in these wireless earbuds, it must have been a real challenge to get them right. But Sony has absolutely nailed it. The headphones deliver a satisfying user experience, class-leading battery life, some of the best noise-cancelling we’ve heard in this category, and absolutely stunning sound quality. Put simply, this is a new benchmark for premium true wireless earbuds. SCORES Sound 5 Comfort 5 Build 5

I own a pair, I can tell you they're good. Even $200 more is not that much for most middle+ income earners over the period of the 2-3+ years you can use these, for hundreds of hours. Even a small improvement of sound (and active noise canceling, and battery life, and comfort, and the rest) ends up being small potatoes over full lifespan of ownership. As for losing them, well. Admittedly I just lost a pair recently … But for $10 as it turns out, you can get a silicon or ABS plastic case that goes over the battery case, and it has a carabiner so you can hook it onto your housekeys, belt, whatever. Naturally my second pair is now equipped with one …

              • @Grazz989: Yeh fair enough. I forgot I said that lol. I guess its more accurate to say "I'm skeptical in ear earphones can even achieve Hi-fi quality" - which is still my position. I had a brief google, was hard to find good info on it. But it seems they may be closer than I thought. The smaller size, and proximity to ear, limits the drivers and soundstage. But perhaps clarity can be on par at a slight cost premium. I am curious to try these and compare with the Soundpeats top model H1 or H2 (~$60-70 on sale, $100 normal) which have been well reviewed, and favourably compared to premium brands.

I'd still be hesitant to spend too much, mostly cos I'd lose them. But I can understand wanting the best quality if that's a priority. I got studio monitors earlier this year and was blown away at the sound quality and clarity. Now I just want bigger/better speakers haha, but these are good for now.

  • saw XM4 and got excited that they were WH :(

    • Yeah headphone good , in ears not

  • I love my wf xm4. Maybe I’m not familiar but I love that it feels so seamless. Every time I open the case and put it in, it just works. I’ve never had it disconnected or be buggy. Its as reliable as plugging in earphones to me.

I wish it supported multi device pairing a bit better, but if it did I know it would be bigger. My wh xm3 supports multi device, but it’s buggy and unreliable when switching between devices or stopping and starting.

    • Does the WH XM3 definitely have multi device?

Thought the XM4 introduced it. I have both, love the XM3, hate the XM4 because of the stupid switching which I bought it for.

  • -1

is this the normal price on TGGC? Have they been around long? i.e. going to be superseded soon?

  • Very happy with the XM3.
Great sound quality and battery life.
They're a little bulky however stays in my ears securely on the treadmill with the pre fitted tips.

  • Silly question, how to get a account? I think I missed this very important discussion…

  • Quite liked the WF1000XM4 for their noise cancelling, however, I could just never get the fit right in my ears. Ended up getting as well the Bose quiet comfort earbuds (via JB Perks half price deal) and the fit is so much better, alas a bulkier case

  • The new release IPX4 water resistant Sony LinkBuds S are not bad at $210 (RRP $269).

  • I purchased one of these today and the ANC is almost nonexistent. Is this normal? I had XM3 and other brands in the past and none of them have this problem.

I have tried changing to different tips including aftermarket ones, and a software update but no dice. Everyone on youtube said the ANC was incredible but for me it was barely noticeable. Are my buds defective?
