This is great for those who would like to renew their Points Club / +

    • -1

Not for those of us planning to start the new anniversary year in November… :/

  • +1

Relatively easy sign up form. Will do the same as above commenter and use it as an opportunity to churn out of Telstra to jump back in for a JB gift card deal comes out and get the new iPhone

  • So how do you cancel at the end of the 3 months?

    Just ring up Optus?

    • +2

      Do it on the app

  • +3

what’s the easiest way to port out if you’re currently with optus?

  • +1

    I'm currently on 200GB 4G Home Wireless Broadband, $65 a month.

So for others in the same boat, they could cancel their plan (if they've been on and paid out the modem already), and go onto this plan for $99.

So that's an extra $35 a month for three months = $105 for 60K Qantas Points.

Or $75 if you factor in the cashback from CashRewards

  • My vodafone billing period is until 19th of July. With no rebate when is the best day to sign up to this so it activates on the 18th or 19th.. how instant is he sign up process for a new optus user

    • +1

Remember this deal expires on 17 July - so you have to do it by then

  • +1

Signed up and got connected today.

Must say how rubbish is 3G.

Currently with Vodafone and have 5G and now 3G with Optus lol.

    Welcome back to 2005

  • Spoke with the Optus customer service today. I'm on a sim only plan and they said I would be eligible… https://imgur.com/a/09DARJi

  • +1

I think technically they credit the points at the end of the 3rd month, so you have to pay four months of charges i.e. $396 instead of the $297.

Bought this before a US trip partially because the ad says there is 5gb worth of international roaming (albeit says for $79 plan, but thought that was a typo given the link was for $99 plan). Anyway, I don’t have international roaming.

I also can’t register an account for some reason to manage things like roaming. Support hasn’t been able to resolve it.

Grrr. I give up. At least I will get 60k points at the end of it. That is the silver lining (damn good one at that).

Optus - if you were hoping to lure some customers long term with this promo, you are doing a pretty bad job of it!

    • The $99 plan doesn’t have international roaming - you’d be able to purchase that an add on

      • -3

Click on the link and scroll down to the bottom. It says there is 5gb international roaming.

        • +1

That’s only on the $79 a month plan - the $99 does not include any international calls or roaming

My Optus eSim is now activated and when I go to International Roaming in the app you can choose 5GB for 24 hours with Unlimited Talk & Unlimited Text for $5 or 35GB for 7 days for Unlimited talk & text for $35.

      • Thanks. That would be great if I could register an account with Optus. It won’t let me and their support can’t/won’t help!

      • The contract sent to me has no mention of the international roaming pack mentioned in the OP.

Also, their support couldn’t/wouldn’t turn on international roaming for me.

Stuck between rock and hard place!

  • The headline mentions 5G but I can't see anything in the deal that it includes 5G access. What are peoples experience who have signed up? I saw 3G mentioned above.

    • Using it right now (in sydney CBD, indoors office building) and getting 4G.

If you click on the link and expand 5G it shows the following:
“5G network access at no extra cost”

      • Thanks, not sure how I missed that! I was too busy reading the fine print.

    • +1

Getting 5G in many parts of Melbourne. 400-500Mbps typically.

      • Have you signed up?

  • My current plan will be expired on 28th. Could you sign up now and activate it later?

  • Currently at 35/m but ok i may pull the trigger, one of reasons is tax deductible as my new employer doesnt provide company phone

  • Has anyone recieved the following error? (details are 100% correct): Your details don't match Qantas's records. Please check and try again.

  • Anyone else getting "Invalid Expiry Date" for their primary ID during the check-out process? It fails for VIC Licence and Aust Passport - both with valid dd/mm/yyyy inputs… So frustrating when you want to buy something and the process does not work!

  • +2

Does anyone know if I can get this for 3 months for the QFFs and donate all the data?

    • What a great idea! Was going to sign up to this plan and definitely don't need so much data.

      https://www.optus.com.au/living-network/donate-your-data#how…

    • after i signed up that's what i did. i could only donate 10GB though for this billing cycle.
my bill cycle date is 22nd of each month (service activated on 9th July).

      • Does that mean the first cycle is pro-rated?

        • Chat with optus, yes first cycle is pro-rata + first full 99 for a month in advance. So you first bill will be greater than 99. Now the confusing part is when should we exit ;) my billing cycle also on 22-jul.

          • @countmein: This seems like good news, looks like we won't be paying a full 4th month

            • @trotsky: Depends on their calculation, might be even bad 4+ months, lets see

  • I got an error "this number is not eligible for this service" when trying to port in my number from Belong. It offers to give me a new phone number. I have been with Optus before on this number, but it was more than a year ago. I'd love 60k points but I am not changing my phone number lol.

    • same with me

      • Had the same issue. Customer support was unable to help. I changed my contact number in my old My Optus account and that seemed to have done the trick. Ymmv

  • Been connected for 2 days now, optus 5g is hilarious compared to telstra. Barely ever ticks over to 5g. doesn't really matter though, only for 3 months and ill churn back to telstra

  • the offer may looks good. But the experience with connecting to Optus is a nightmare.

    I'm using an eSIM.

I ported my Telstra number to Optus, and the porting process is 24 hrs, which is slow but OK.

However, after receiving the activation SMS/email, with setup instructions, I cannot download the eSIM profile (throws "Something went wrong").

Believe or not I spent 3 hours with the online support, no result, failed.

    Make the calls, no result.

They escalate to the IT team, which doesn't have a number to call, the it will take 3-5 business days to POSSIBLELY fix the issue.

That's the service you received, for connecting a $100 monthly plan as a new customer, they should put this as part of their marketing.

    • I had no issues with activating my eSIM via the SMS I received.

    • mines taking even longer than 24 hours. Did you have to call them to get the esim email?

      • I got a call this morning to validate and the rep procesed the order straight away, got email confirmation and sms with esim details, activated within 5 minutes. I placed the order 2 days ago.

        • bloody hell it’s so slow

  • anyone else not able to get the SMS to validate the number to port current number over?

  • plus $30 cashrewards !

  • good deal for people who can't meet $2~3k spend for new credit card. I don't spend $1k/month so can't meet new CC signup bonus so this is good for me.

    • For those applying, keep an eye on your FF balance after 3 months. Once FF points land, check your billing cycle and change to prepaid a day before billing cycle ends to be safe. You could go to prepaid as soon as points arrive but postpaid is paid a month so keep that in mind.

      • Can't you just cancel?

        • +1

Yea, can cancel as well. As long as you cancel or move to prepaid day or two before billing cycle ends because plans are paid a month in advance.

          • @twistedbow: Can you change it to prepaid within the app itself or online in the user account on the Optus website? Sorry, but noob to this

  • Anyone who did receive the sim card, how long does it take to arrive since you made an order?
Im afraid the sim card not getting on time (by friday) as porting by the weekend would results activated on next business day? Equals to bonus points not getting honored?

    • Good question. I might go the eSIM route to avoid this being an issue

    • -1

It needs to be activated by the 17th per t&cs.
Does your phone have esim compatibility?

      • Oh yes lucky! I never tried this though, is it an easy process? Seems a bit technical, and for the next 3 months i would (as everyone) convert back to prepaid/port out to diff provider.
Just saw this and porting process include Saturday, as its pretty close

        https://www.optus.com.au/for-you/support/answer?id=20000&blo…

If you're transferring over from another provider, the change over will occur during porting hours:

        . Mon-Fri: 8am-8pm AEST; and

        . Saturdays: 10am-6pm AEST

        • Setting up an esim is easy.
Though my use case is different I signed up to a new service with an esim, activated it and turned it off afterwards.
My plan is to disconnect it after I receive the bonus points.

          • @Heybargain: I finally got the physical sim card. All good

Beware who just signed this up, better go to esim

  • Placed online order last night. Received a temporary order number via email shortly after. Then received a call tonight to confirm my ID and order. I asked for eSIM on new number so I can keep my Aldi sim on Telstra going for calls and coverage. Initially the Optus representative told me he would have to dispatch a physical sim first and then once I receive it I could request it be converted to an eSIM. I questioned this saying others had received an immediate SMS with instructions on how to activate the eSIM. He told me that was only for customers porting their number. Anyway he put me on hold and then came back after 5 minutes saying he could in fact issue an eSIM. Activated eSIM after the call with ease on my iPhone 13.

Have instructed the phone to use Aldi sim for everything except data. All data is to be routed via Optus sim. Once activated, I disabled wifi and checked 5G coverage. It defaulted to 3G and recorded a download speed of 3Mbps. Pretty shocking seeing as I live about 500m line of sight from an Optus mast. Optus website reports that I live in an area of excellent 5G coverage.

  • In case there are temporary VISA holders, like me, without AU/NZ passports, Medicare, or the AU driver's license, the current promotion may not apply to us,
since once we chose an international passport as the first ID, the second ID could only be the four documents above.

After calling Optus customer service, I can confirm that we could not apply for this deal through a phone call since this is an online-only deal.

It would be appreciated if there are people without these four documents who won't mind shedding some light on how to access this offer.

  • Does anybody know about Data Sharing? I wanna connect data with my gf's sim. Does it work with this Qantas sim plan?

  • Got the $30 CashRewards, but just signed up an hour or so ago. Only have the temporary tracking order so doubt will get the SIM in time in the mail.

Looks like will have to go in-store to grab the SIM

    • Is it as simple as walking into an Optus store with proof of purchase and they'll hand over a usable SIM straight away?

      • Not sure but will find out haha

        • +1

It's worth a try. I'm going to check with my local Optus store.

          • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Good luck fingers crossed buddy

Got approval email but will go to store later today to grab SIM. Need a microSIM as planning to use it as my home Wireless Broadband and cancel my existing Optus plan.

Hopefully they can activate in store too, because I don't have a phone that takes microSIM cards to activate..

          • @UrMumsOnlyFan: It's a mess mate.

Online chat said to cancel and re-apply in store. Went in-store and they said they don't have access to the online promo plans in their system.

They reckon that even though I ordered last night and the SIM won't be delivered (and thus activated) by Sunday the 17th, it should still be ok and that they've put a note on my file saying that I've come in-store.

            • +1

@adrianhughes1998: Looking at the T&Cs, it doesn't make sense that they would require activation between 7 July to 17 July. Physical SIMs could only be delivered up to Friday 15 July, and unless they're being sent express post then there's no guarantee that anyone would receive them in time, given the current state of postal services.

I suspect, and would hope, that the date of activation isn't going to be an issue in the end.

Having said that, I decided not to risk it due to the possibility of not getting the bonus points before the fourth month is charged.

              • @UrMumsOnlyFan: That's exactly it. They should have modified the dates to say cutoff delivery by the 13th july etc or say signup by the 17th and activation by the 24th or whatnot.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't go through with the offer, much like me. I've made a complaint to Optus about the live chat representative that told me the incorrect advice of going in store to apply again (in terms and conditions online, it says it's an online and not in store plan), but I suspect they're gonna show me the door because they have that in their T and C's

Shame really but what do you do. Guess it's back to credit card sign up offers haha

  • Hi, with cashrewards do you paste the Qantas link a new tab or the tab which the cashrewards link opens up?

    • +1

Copy and paste the address of the Qantas link into the same tab that you used to click through to the Optus site after clicking thru Shop Now on Cashrewards

  • has anyone signed up today and got through?

    • Yes, I signed up at around 1am this morning. Got a temporary order confirmation as they say they only process orders between 8am and 12 midnight, so I called this morning after 9am and they completed the order over the phone and received esim immediately after.

  • Does it mean i have to place an order or insert sim before tomorrow (Jul 17)?

    • Service must be activated by tomorrow. SIM through mail will not arrive in time so go with esim if you have a compatible device

      • I havent inserted my sim yet, but received an email from optus yesterday, where they say my new number is active.

But i am still waiting for the sim to arrive for my mrs.

        • When you say you haven't inserted your SIM have you actually received it in the mail yet?

          • @unity1: Yes, but i havent even opened the envelope it came in.

            • +1

@maiuspala: No issue there for your service. It's active so no problem for you. Hopefully your wife receives the same activation email before the end of tomorrow.

  • Bit late to the bandwagon but thinking I might sign up tonight - Optus chat agent says it is all fine despite the T&C's saying it must be activated today but i'm not sure how trusting I am….. Has anyone else signed up today and asked a similar question?

    • I was told the same yesterday, but did activate the esim.

      • thanks for the reply - do you get an e-sim immediately? Can you activate immediately? Just have never used one….

        • Device has to be compatible with ESim. If not you're out of luck.

          • +1

@adrianhughes1998: All sorted - am eligible for the points. Just grabbed an eSim as have iPhone 12/13 - not that we need the plan or data anyway….purely for the points.

            • @dahax77: Good stuff.

I signed up and got approved Friday morning but no way Sim card was gonna arrive in time. Went in store but they said order was locked and they couldn't activate a physical Sim in store. Told me to call support.

Went onto live chat and they said to cancel order & order in store again. Went back to store and they said they don't have the plans in their systems. So made a complaint about the live chat rep that told me the wrong advice.

I get that it's my fault and should have read the t&C's but still not happy I got the runaround.

              • +2

@adrianhughes1998: What a pain in the ass - if you have any issues getting the points let me know. I've got a chat transcript confirming it is eligible on sign up by the end of the 17th - no need to activate.

                • @dahax77: Thank you, will do. Yeah I haven't signed up because I was so over it that I just didn't sign up again online for it to try my luck. But in my online complaint, have told them that I wish to sign up manually and have reassurances that I will get paid out the points even though activation date will be after the 17th.

Says will take up to 10 business days so fingers crossed :/

                  • @adrianhughes1998: Any updates on this. They lost my order and tell me even though i have a confirmation email they cannot manually process the application.

They have offered me $1500 Optus credit but I really wanted the points.

My complaint took 2 days to be answered.

                • @dahax77: What a classic. So the order has been cancelled but SIM just got delivered LOL

                • @dahax77: Hey Dave, I did the SIM card option and still haven’t had it delivered so wasn’t able to activate. Would love to get a copy of that transcript if possible mate

                  • @Ezekial1564: Make a complaint @optus. The online chat rep told me wrongly that I could cancel and sign up in store when I couldn't. So went back and forth between the store two times.

Anyways Optus put 600$ credit onto my existing Optus account as compensation for the lost 60K points.

                • @dahax77: Hi Dave, could you please send me the transcript as well if possible

  • Not sure who was trying to do a similar tactic to me.

But here's what I was going to do:

Get the $99 Qantas SIM card for the 60,000 points.

Then once I activated it, change my current number over and cancel my current Optus ($70 p/m) plan.

Unfortunately, I spoke with Optus support and once you have activated the Qantas Optus number you cannot change it, or you will lose the points.

    So here's what I'm doing:

Keeping the extra number (Qantas) plan.

Then moving my current number I use daily that I have with Optus on a $70 plan across to Amaysim that have a $6 plan at the moment that moves up to $12 on the second month.

I'll use the Qantas number as an ESIM to use the Data then the Amaysim which has unlimited calls and text but only 4gb of data (Which I won't need to use)

Spending an extra $28 more than I thought I'd have to, but a nice little get around.

I'll most likely upgrade my phone after this.

Fingers crossed.. in 3 months time Vodafone have a Qantas deal ha!

This is a lot of work for 60,000 points.. But I kinda enjoy it.
