Let alone these ones. Still made of plastic and fake leather. This is premium headphone pricing

Just wait a few months for the inevitable c.$350 price. If you can’t wait is the upgrade from XM4 really worth it?

Had these for a day. The sound is very flat. Trying the EQ trick - improvement but little too much. Sony 360 - can’t tell the diff in Tidal. Why not Dolly Atmos? Bluetooth implementation isn’t an improvement from my QC35. Comfort is good. Design is good but plastic. Weight is fantastic.

Leaning towards returning atm. Expected more for $500 but they’re very similar to QC35, and AirPods Pro I already have sound better and have Atmos.

    • In your professional option, Sony WH-1000XM4 is better than Sony WH-1000XM5?

      • Never tried XM4 so couldn’t say.

    • Why so many mid range headphones?

The AirPods Pro fit in my pocket so I don’t need my backpack.
Full-size are more comfortable than in ear and I use them at my desk. The QC35s are first gen and about 6 years old. Missing some features like USB C, auto pause, virtual surround sound, and handling of more than 2 devices require me to pull out my phone just for the app.

        • You use virtual surround sound? Tried it a few times and hated it. Do you need anc over nc while sitting at your desk?

          • @onlinepred: I've used Dolby Atmos with my AirPod Pro through Apple TV before. Also when I was subscribed to Apple Music. I think it sounds better than stereo. I leave spatialise stereo on now.

I don't know all the details about noise cancellation. I can say that QC35 first gen doesn't work as well as I'd like in a noisy office. On an airplane, I find it inadequate too.

            • @starlight39: Ah cool, yea I think it’s because I’m very picky when it comes to audio, spatial audio and atmos mostly make things worse for me in that regard.

ANC is hard to get right, and xm3/xm4 do that well along with comfort.

Sony have been making lower and lower quality headphones in the last 10 years, using lots of plastic and PU leather. Ive had the XM3, XM4 both headphones had broken headbands in the same place from everyday use and both failed at the 2 year mark, right after warranty.

At the same time my Sennheiser momentum wireless, BW P7 both use metal headband, lamb leather earcups have been perfect. The sound profile of Sony's are very good, but at 499, you can get alot better.

      Momentum wireless 3 are great, p7, h9i/h9, and mw60

FYI $433 thru JB HiFi Business website

    • Can you elaborate? I got quoted $480 through JB Business…

      • +1

No quote, it appears on my version of the webpage as $433.65 inc GST, bought them 2 weeks ago. If yours is more it suggests different discounts are applied depending on how you have come to have access to the page, mine is through a professional assoc membership. sounds like I have a good discount, sorry (can buy you a pair if you like!)

    XM3 $300, XM4 $400, XM5 $500. I like Sony business.
