Paid $2035 for 55" from thegoodguys eBay. My life is over! The $7 savings :(

  • +3

I’m surprised these are so heavily discounted already

    • World economy is going down. Recession is coming. Inflation is getting new height. Expect more discounts if you are not in rush.

      • +13

You know inflation causes purchasing power to decrease, which makes things more expensive right?

        • +2

Agreed, that is 100% not what's going to happen.

        • +5

That's right. So the retailers have to decrease the price of items else they have close their doors.

          • +1

@virtualds: Gee, I sure am scared of a recession coming. I sure don’t want checks notes consumer goods to be more affordable to the public

            • -1

@robinbanks: Luxury goods that have their manufacturing planned years in advance and had a surge in popularity during a period where people spent more time indoors than ever in human history. That, and manufacturing is scaling up so costs are going down regardless. Oh, and crypto-related market distortion has ceased.

Imagine thinking the first 10 pages of an economics textbook determine every single market dynamic in existence.

              • -2
                • -2

@robinbanks: Smartest thing you've written so far.

                  • @jasswolf: Your comment was a bizarre mix of non-sequitur and insult and so I had a look through your history and it seems as though spewing hate and nonsense is your MO. Don’t see much point in engaging with someone like you 🥱

                    • -4

                      @robinbanks:

                      non-sequitur

Given you've spat out about one unit of economics from high school, that definitely checks out.

The only reason I'm engaging with you is so that nobody takes your Herald Sun-level commentary as reflective of how global markets work… and I'm done!

                      • @jasswolf: Your (poorly articulated) argument seemed to be that other market forces would somehow outweigh the effects of a serious recession, which is such an unbelievable long shot call, and also nothing to do with the original discussion.

Asserting this argument so confidently and calling me uneducated for not mentioning those market forces can only be interpreted as wanting desperately to sound smart while putting others down (both of which you seem to do a lot). Good luck with your approach to life, you’re going to need it

                        • -5

@robinbanks: Good luck in finding a better thesaurus as you slowly melt into the floor

    • +1

There’s a new OLED manufacturer in the market. They displayed a large 8K set. Previous to this they had been making small OLED screens for phones since
      2017.
      https://www.whathifi.com/features/theres-a-new-oled-panel-ma…

      • +2

It's Samsung that's making the impact currently, who are scaling up manufacturing along with LG.

  • +2

This is insane, over a 30% drop from this deal not even 2 months ago…

Also OP, expiry should be tomorrow as it says on TGG site "Advertised price ends 10 July 2022" which would carry over to their eBay store of course.

    • I wouldn't be surprised if they stick with this price and ebay gives extra 15% on TGG.

  • The 83” at $600 more than the A90J is tempting for the slightly better brightness and 4x 2.1 HDMI. Already ordered the A90J though so don’t have enough CC balance, if I canceled, for the authorisation haha.

  • Damn bought the 42 at HN for $1835. The horror, the horror…

    • +1

Same here. Just purchase and took it home yesterday. Oh well - $91 less of beer.

  • +1

65" $2,883.25 (same price as Bing Lee)

  • Ooof, getting harder not to justify upgrading to an OLED.

  • +3

Thanks op, good price for the new C2 ….Wonder if they’ll have a C1 fire sale soon. 😅

  • +7

Don't forget eBay gift cards 3% off and instant delivery at shopback gift card portal

    • Only able to apply a maximum of 8 gift cards, cards were from CC reward not shopback so YMMV

  • Wow amazing price for the 42" … must resist

    • +1

      I thought I did… But I autopilot bought the 42!

  • This might be an indicator of how much better qd-oleds are in comparison. Sony and Samsung dropping soon

    • +2

Not quite. The subpixel arrangement of qd-oled causes a lot of issues with edges of objects and text leading to a lot of rainbow effect. Hopefully that gets rectified with the next iteration.

I've used my 6 year old oled55b6 for PC and various gaming scenarios, there is some minor rainbow effect around text but overall good. No burn in but I get some image retention. I've just pulled the plug on a 42inch OLED from this deal (rather impulsively), should go well with my 6909xt. Super keen.

      • Can you source that? I haven’t read anything in the comparisons I’ve seen so far.
Edit: text? Are you talking about for pc monitor? Not really a problem for tv and movies then.

        • Yeah text … QD-OLED not that sharp for text. Number of people are buying the 42" to use as a gaming monitor … 42" 16:9 is the same physical width as a 38" UW and the same horizontal pixels.

        • +1

If you're just using it for movies and TV then you should be fine

      • WRGB OLED causes all kinds of issues too. RTINGS, who love to assign a number to every possible metric, rate them equally average for text clarity.

      • You use 55” as a monitor? How is it? Do you have to sit further away

        • you do have to sit further away. I have a corsair k63 wireless in the corsair lapboard and a logitech g pro wireless which works well for gaming with with a big TV since you can just have everything on your lap. looking forward to the smaller 42inch and being able to sit on a desk properly.

  • How to choose the C&C option at checkout?

    • When it's in you're cart there's a delivery or collect in store option.

      • Thanks. It used to be there as I remember but it's only showing Postage for me now. strange!

      • +1

Doesn’t look like any c&c option now on their eBay

        • +2

Not all of their C2 models are available for C&C
          I’ll update the description shortly

  • So tempting that 42” to replace my ageing LG 43” monitor

    • +3

Still not worth it, sadly. ABL not good enough, text clarity a bit average, no 120Hz BFI for competitive gaming.

      Here's an in-depth review: https://tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg-oled-42c2

    • I picked mine up today to replace my 34inch Xiaomi. It works well as a monitor, wish it had a better stand though like the 48inch models, instead the 42inch has two plastic feet.

Lot of settings to tinker with to get it working well with PC but it's good once you get it there.

  • +4

i went back to jb today after purchasing a c2 42 20 days ago for $2250, they refunded me the difference as they are now $1836

    • Same. I can’t believe the price of c2 drop so quick…

  • Can you use ebay gift cards to get the balance under 2k to use afterpay? If so where is best to get ebay giftcards asap.

      • My bad thanks. And I'm assuming you can just use giftcards to get under afterpay limit?

        • -1

Yup I think it should work. I would recommend paying it in full with 3% cashback on eBay gift cards from ShopBack if you can

          • -1

@BargainsGrabber: Whoever negged this, I’ve paid something that I bought on eBay using PayPal Pay in 4. I paid some with eBay gift cards and the balance were on Pay in 4.

One of my mates has confirmed that the same thing is allowed for Afterpay: you can pay with eBay gift cards first to bring it down to the Afterpay limit of $2k and put the rest on Afterpay account

            • @BargainsGrabber: This is correct. Apply up to 8 Gift Cards (7 if using an eBay Discount Code) to bring down the price to under $2000, then the Afterpay option will be selectable

  • I was waiting for the 42" for a while, ended up with the aorus fv43u which is pretty good but damn if I'd love to replace it with one of these! Must resist!

  • 3% ShopBack eBay gift card

  • Good Prices, what is the differences compare C1 series?

42inch looks a good size to replace my monitor

    • +1

The C2 is brighter, not sure by how many nits. The C2 has a stand that goes better with a soundbar at the front.

      • It seems C1 has no 42 inch, only 48 inch.
C2 42 inch might be a new design to desktop users.

        • Picked up my 42inch today. The stand on the 42inch is quite flimsy, two plastic legs that screw on.

Aside from that it's a great monitor.

  • +1

Does anyone here know if Australian stock of 42s are using the old WBC panel still?

    • +2

It's anecdotal, but I bought the 42" today using this deal and I got the WBE panel. Who knows what if there are still WBC panels floating around in stock though.

      • Was there an easy way to check or did you have to go through hidden menus?

        • +2

The WBE panels have a bit of a pink tint if you look at it off axis.

        • +3

I went through the service menu. It's actually pretty easy. You don't need a special remote or anything.

          Method:
-Use the TV's own web browser from the Home screen.
          -Navigate to http ://webosapp.club/instart
-Your TV will prompt you to accept the connection from the browser.
-At the password prompt enter 0413
-In the OLED section of the service menu Module Info 2 will display which panel you have.
          -Module Info 2: 00/00/1/03 - WBC panel
          -Module Info 2: 08/00/1/03 - WBE panel

  • This or TCL C825 ?

    • Or tcl835

  • +1

How likely is the screen to crack or be damaged when touched by finger or booped by a dogs nose or paw or something? I've never owned an OLED and I'm seeing that the top part is super thin so im a bit worried that its fairly easy to be damaged. Even like when lifting it out of the box to move it or trying to put a stand on it.
Anyone that owns or has owned one got any experiences to share on how durable these thin TV screens are?

    • I just dont wanna blow 2 grand and then babysit the TV to make sure my pet doesnt eff the screen by touching or going against it with its tail swipe.

      • -1

        Ditch the dogs

    • -1

My parents bought the C1 and it was super thin (prolly close to a sheet of A4 for comparison?)

They had to be very careful during installation

      • +5

You must have some very thick paper. It's more comparable to a sheet of thick cardboard.

It has a solid plastic body, you'd have to really be beating it up to damage it.

        • Probs yeh more to a piece of cardboard to think of it now. Wasn’t used to how thin it became as technology improved compared to our previous 4 years old LG

      • A4

        I'd say at least A3.

  • Well.. who has buyers remorse about their $1,800 55” LG C1 they took delivery of 3 weeks ago.. :/

    • +1

your C1 will still be good. I have still have a 55inch B6 from 2016, still going strong, no burn in at 7000 hours.

      • Oh I love it, don't get me wrong, just a shame that webOS runs like crap on this thing.. something resolved on the C2.

        • +1

Ahh, my C2 is gonna be hooked up to PC for the most part but you could always get a google tv or shield tv? I find those two work better than in built UI

  • +2

Thank OP - I love my 28 Degrees Price Protection Card. $520 saved from when I made the purchase of the 42" C2 for $2295.

    • How long does the price protection apply?

  • +2

Thanks OP. For anyone interested, it's possible to get the 65" delivered for $2797.13. I rang TGG, got them to price match the eBay plus price of $2883.50 (not sure why it was 25c more but close enough) but they offered free delivery as well. Then I paid for it with TGG gift cards through 3% shopback ($2849 + $30 gift card) and then paid the remaining $4.50 for a total payment of $2797.13 after shopback.

    • +1

Thanks for detailing this, will give it a try and report back cheers

Reporting back, worked a treat was able to secure the same price of $2883.50 and added the 5 year plan which was reduced to $365 down from $399 which includes $300 in vouchers over the 5 years effectively reducing the extended warranty to $65. Total came to $3248.50. With free delivery.

Paid in shopback gc of $3000 and $249 wish a cash back of $97.47. Total cost $3151.53 and with the $300 back in vouchers effectively $2851.53

Thanks again mate very happy with the deal

  • They raised the RRP significantly LOL

    • Yeah I noticed they went back to the initial launch price for the 42, 400 odd more than the revised price and around 1k higher than this.

      No. Chance. In. Hell.

      • Completely ridiculous. $3,395 for the 55". You'd have to be properly desperate to buy at such prices (if you care about your money).
I almost pulled the trigger at $2k. Couldn't get over it that my plasma is still working without any drama. Kind of regretting it a little that I didn't pull the trigger.

  • God damn came back to purchase and the price has risen

    • Don't worry too much. There'll be specials again soon.

  • Looking for a compact sound bar to go with my new LG 42. Would a LG sound bar like the LG Sound Bar S65Q be more integrated with the TV with remote.

    • +1

Any hdmi arc bar capable will operate the same.

      • Cheers!

        • Some companies have gimmick manufactured sound options when you pair up matching products, but for normal use, it's all hdmi arc dependent.

  • +1

Thanks OP, was posted at just the right time to be able to snag the deal, went back tonight just to see if this was a great OzBargain and the 65" has gone up to $4495!

  • +2

Thanks OP, looks like this was a one day deal only, and randomly before a price hike of now $1,000AUD!

I purchased the LG C2 42" OLED and got the newer WBE panel. This has been setup on my computer desk as my main gaming monitor and its amazing.

I thought I would need a desk mounted monitor arm for height and depth adjustment but I am happy with the position of the TV on my desk with just the standard legs that come with the TV in the box. It is not so big that I have eye strain or am running my eyes to each corner for information when using it.

I picked up a HDMI 2.1 cable from the good guys also which was heavily discounted to $14, brand was crest and am currently at native resolution, Gsync and 120hz no worries with HDR enabled through Windows 11. I also purchased for $1 the HEVC codec from the windows store app as well as the Dolby Vision drivers also from the store. Watching Netflix with Vision is awesome in the Edge Browser.

Gaming is sick with this thing, my previous monitor which is now on the side of this TV is an Asus ROG 27" 1440p IPS Gsync 165Hz panel and I don't really notice the difference between 165hz gaming and 120hz gaming, it might feel slightly less buttery smooth if you really looked at each of them but when you factor in the upgrade of OLED, 4K and HDR it really becomes a mute point when playing any games.

    Thanks again!

  • +1

I would really like this deal to return :'(

    • +1

      I missed the boat too :( :(

      • Im sitting here waiting to spend $1750 on the 42", but not a dime more haha…

        Surely this sale must return!

PS: your reply got me all excited for a "it's back on here: [link]" :'(

        • I’d be happy to pay $1850 really.
