9 dollars too much. Its a proper free to play.

    • +2

To be fair it is a lot better then when it launched, it's probably nearly ready for release now.

The games biggest issues now are content, there just are not many guns or maps. They've tried to bring in a new exodus mode that uses the old maps which were portal only but they keep rotating that mode out and it's only 64 players.

The new exposure map is easily the best map in the game, they need more maps like what that one offers.

      • +2

Biggest Issue is no one is playing it even with Cross Play on (which gives advantage to PC players)…Lobbies are quite often empty which makes it hard to level up the Season challenges if you can't actually find a game. I've mostly been playing Solo. Haven't seen a match with a full lobby for a long time, mostly 25 players or less. Regardless i'm still enjoying it as frustrating as it is with shitty NBN.

        • Yeah I enjoy it and I have to agree with the player issue, I think that more content like the Exposure map might bring more players back as the game itself is actually pretty good now. I mostly play later at night and on weekends so I find lobbies usually have players in them, the bots usually wake up about 1030PM and start filling up the server(s).

        • Beta cross play was better where you had more control over which platforms to cross with - not just on or off. But then player numbers tanked with release and they needed to lump players more it seems

    • +1

Wait…are Amazon paying me $9 to take it from them?

  • +9

I paid $90 for this game on PC and yet to play one whole game without it crashing. Running a Ryze 5600x, GPU: 6900xt, 32gb 3600mhz ram. I've tried all the solves they've put up and yet nothing seems to work for me. I'm assuming it would be better optimised on console.

    • Aint much better on console. It doesnt crash but get flogged by KB and mouse. I paid $79 and tried to get my monies worth with great frustration..

      • Can you use a KB and mouse on PS5 ?

        • Don't think so but it has crossplay so you end up playing against PC people with KBM

        • +1

You can on Xbox, and its no better…

    • +13

I paid $70ish on release and it's still in my draw, un-activated, because all my mates cancelled their preorders without telling me.

      Sad times. Haha!

    • +2

      I share the same sentiment.
I didnt even bother trying to get a refund. For me it will just be a reminder in my library never to buy a Battlefield again (or within the first two months)

    • +1

So I am not the only one!
Every time I launched it, it either crashed and rebooted my whole PC right after the launch of couple minutes later.
      I couldn't fix that. Also running a Ryzen 5600x.

    • +1

I guess you got on Origin and not Steam? Would have easily got a refund for that.

      • +1

I tried but they said post the 30 days no refund. I didn't refund striaght away bcoz I thought they'd eventually release a fix for it, but that's far from the truth, now I read they're resorting to skeleton crew for this game.
Never preordering from this company again.

        • +2

Never understood why people preorder games.

    • +11

You paid $90 for this and you've been on Ozbargain for two years? Please hand in your gun and badge, we don't need your service anymore.

      • +2

Yeah I had the same thought. It was an impulse buy bcoz I've been a huge fan of bf games.

        • +1

Yeah previous releases were problematic at launch but this one has done serious damage, it feels like it killed the brand.

  • +6

Does this have a single player mode, and is it good? For $9, I don't mind if it is short - but I don't really play online, so those modes don't appeal to me.

    • +8

      No single player

      • +48

Damn. Easy skip for ol' Andrew87

      • The SP was great in previous versions too.

    • +1

There’s singleplayer in the sense you can make a match vs bots. Which is basically online these days as servers are dead.

      • +4

To clarify for anyone wondering: there is no offline play against bots, everything is online-only. Complete dealbreaker.

    • You can play SOLO online….fighting against AI Bots, i do it quite a bit as the Multiplayer lobbies are quite often empty…For 9$ it's a deal.

  • +3

Buying a disc to then have to download and install a slew of updates makes it kind of redundant.

At least they're useful for finding bargains.

    • +1

For PC version, they don't have disc inside the box but only a cd-key and you need to download all the base game and updated.

  • +1

I need the PC version at $9 :(

    • +1

The PC version was $9 last night on Amazon AU… although that's not very helpful for you at the moment!

      • +2

        Oh no..I’ve missed out again!!

        • +4

          You're not missing much haha

        • +6

          You saved yourself $9

          • +1

            @mrtee: It's $9, I was thinking to give it a go. lol

            • +1

@sunnyii: If you have Gamepass you can give it a go for 10 hours no extra charges…

    • +1

Try Big W if there's store around you. Link

    • +1

Honestly just get BF4 if you don't have it already.

    • +1

Currently price matched at Big W, including PC:
      https://www.bigw.com.au/product/battlefield-2042-pc/p/171183

      • +1

Thankyou for posting the link I just bought a copy for my pc

      • No Big W near has it, shame Amazon not price matching the PC copy.

  • +5

Played it via free xbox pass trial

    not worth $1

    Back to Warzone I go

    • Same here! At least there are less rampant Aimbotters these days with some suspected Wallhackers, otherwise it is running okay last few months.

  • +4

I got this $9 bucks last time it was on sale a few months back and it is still a proper PoS game even after the new season update. I can't comprehend how they released this game, beyond belief.

I want them to pay me $18 for giving them a go even after all the reviews lol.

    *on PC

  • +2

    My comment from 3 months ago;

EB Games trades it at $15 store credit for a level 4 (which is 20% extra value).

tldr; not worth the trade in if wanting to make a quick buck

Trade price would have gone down so not worth the investment if you want to trade in to EB.

    • At this stage it would not even trade for $10 as they are also having a sale which affects trade value.

    • -1

definitely wont trade at the same value now plus I don't think many people actually have level 4

  • +3

Just checked, no single player campaign.

    Pass.

  • +3

To be fair they added new maps in zero hour which aren't bad, but the lack of players and significant level of AI opponents (like 80% of the players on any given game) really impacts the enjoyment.

They should have added all these maps on the first release and they might have maintained some player base. At $9 its not bad but you will get frustrated by the following:

    Lack of playable servers
Lack of actual people to play against
Lack of a finished product, still has bugs which were complained about from the outset
    Lack of new maps
    Lack of single player

    Apart from that its great.

    • I think there is only one map that is actually "new". The rest are just the BF4 maps. Which is fine, but not like they're putting in that much effort.

  • damn EA really down bad

  • EA biggest mistake was to not develop any single player mission for this title.. and yes… this title should hv been free!

    • +4

Can't shove ongoing micro transactions into single player campaigns so they don't bother with them…

  • +4

    Do not buy this

  • +2

Even if this was free it’s not worth your time , an absolute husk of what was once a great franchise. Sadly every talented dev left and this was the result

    • Not quite, I know someone that works at Dice and has for most of the games, even back to the BF1942 community mods and they wanted another year for development but as usual management says FU

  • +4

I've been a massive Battlefield fan since BF2… (Bad Company 2 was the high point)… got this for $9 last time on Amazon and honestly it's just not worth it… it feels like you're running in mud when playing the game and honestly I think BFV is a way better game and even looks better on the base PS4.

Real shame… I've never been much of a COD player but I've got a pre-order with Amazon for the PS5 version of Modern Warfare 2 as it's slim pickings for FPS this generation.

  • +3

Paid 8 or 9 bucks a couple of months ago for the pc version. Questionable whether is was worth it compared to say….getting a Maccers

    • You'll get more value with a Big Mac meal, and bonus is that it has lettuce.

  • +1

Just wait for it to come to game pass if you're on Xbox it's just a matter of time when EA adds it to the ea play vault

    • Yeh hurry up already but they’ve got too many expansions to roll out probs first

  • lol I love it how all the bundles include BF2142 they can't sell it so they have to give it away for free lol.

  • I got the PC version last time it was $9, i dont play it as my main game but i do jump in a couple of times a week. Currently have got about 50 hours so it was worth my $9 but it requires a beefy pc to run well.

  • how much drive space is required to install this game?

  • +12

Donate the $9 to a charity instead. You will receive more fulfillment.

  • +1

    its a dead game already

  • +3

    So sad to see.

Alongside Half-Life and Portal, Battlefield is my favourite.

Played many hours on BF2, 3, 4 and now 5.

    I hate EA

  • Too many games seem to get released now as online only multiplayers with no solo campaigns. I honestly do not get why they try to sell these games for $70+ rather than just have paid skins like all the other free online only games. Or if they don't want to rely on skins atleast make it like $20 at launch. Multiplayer used to be the bonus to a good game now it's just purely the focus with everything having to be online and no local play.

    • +2

They think they can charge 70 dollars AND have paid skins, the problem was you also need to make a game that isnt awful at the very least for people to care enough to buy skins.

  • +1

I bought this at launch and gave up as it was unplayable. Recently I have picked it up again and have been really enjoying it. $9, bargain.

    • +1

Yer same, not seeing the major wtf bugs that were around at launch. i typically play late in the evenings after i put the kid to bed and theres a solid player base around that time.

  • +2

Maybe there'll be enough players to get one server going at this price.

I haven't been able to play it since release as there's simply not enough people in Australia playing it, and I don't blame them.

  • Purchased this for 9$ played 10 min, sold it for 15$.

  • +2

I bought it from Amazon a couple of months back for $9.

There's no single player and I couldn't get into a multiplayer game.

I played what seemed to be a tutorial with bots for 20 minutes or so.

Seemed like a very generic low to mid budget FPS.

Nothing about it enticed me to play for a 2nd time.

Battlefield V is a much better deal, very nice campaign, excellent multiplayer.

I picked up Call Of Duty Vanguard for $19 from Amazon and that is a much better game. Good, arguably very good campaign, albeit particularly short. And multiplayer was very nice. I've barely played CoD multiplayer and I guess it could be argued that Vanguard multiplayer is the same old same old, but for me it's been nice to play. I've dropped out pretty quickly but I can see myself jumping back in every now and then. It's pretty simple in many respects so it's a nice jump in jump out title.

  • +2

LOL you'd be the sucker for buying this pos for $9 and play on servers with 90% bots hahahahahahah

    • Bots as in AI or humans that suck at the game? Didn't know BF introduced the former, if that is the case.

      • They have actual AI's in servers now, because there arent enough players.

  • Too pricey!

  • +1

This is an early access game. If they finish it, it might be ok, but know what you're getting into.

    • Untrue. This is the full game, not early access. Although it really should be an alpha release.

      • +2

I don't think you understood his sarcasm.

        • Definitely missed his sarcasm. My bad.

  • +5

EA really disconintued support for Star wars battlefront for this shite.

    • Yeah it is sad, the game was in a decent place after all the crap it went through as well and then they pulled the plug.

  • +2

    Dead game

  • Latest patch 1.1 caused some performance issue. FPS drop after some game play. Requires a restart to fix the issue. Was great before that.

  • +3

No single player campaign, no purchase.

  • Currently price matched at Big W
    https://www.bigw.com.au/collection/battlefield-2042

  • +1

As much as people are complaining about the game, honestly I've enjoyed my time playing it. It hasn't crashed since the first week after it came out for me.

Definitely were a few too many games with maybe 30% bots in the early days, but that rarely seems to happen since the most recent update which brought a LOT of new players.

If a game does happen to start with bots mixed in with real players, within 5 minutes it's full of real players and the bots are auto-kicked (games typically last 15-20 minutes)

I've only played on PC so can't comment on what its like on console, but on PC at least its easily worth $9 if you've got someone else to play with

  • Worst game and purchase ever

  • +1

Actually have been playing and enjoying this game this week! Had it since launch and it was POO. Now it's good! Especially the Portal Hardcore servers

  • First battlefield I haven't purchased and glad I didn't, played the beta and the F2P weekend and my god what a mess, at least it's plenty of entertainment of the bugs on YouTube each week that's priceless

  • +1

Lol $9 is too much for this

  • +2

Does anyone still play battlefield 1 online ,preferred that too bf V

    • +1

Yes, there are servers still running 24/7 and I always jump in a couple of times a week, it's only conquest though. But BF1 is my jam!

      • Sweet must give a look ,is that ps5?

        • Nah, on Xbox , sorry!

  • +1

Should have donated my 9 bucks from the last deal to charity instead. Would have gotten better value.

  • More like Battlefield 2040 poo amirite?
