[XB1, XSX] Lost Odyssey $9.98 (XBOX Gold Required), Blue Dragon $7.48 @ Microsoft Store

490

Lost Odyssey, a decent old school RPG. Might not be for everybody but I enjoyed this game many years ago so I thought I would share. For $10 it's worth it, if I remember correctly it came on 4 Discs originally so it's a long game.

Blue dragon was just a great game on so many levels. It needs no introduction.

Ahh Lost Odyssey, remember when it came out and the huge box it came in. Great game, definitely give it a go.

Lost Odyssey really was a RPG that I liked due to its more mature tone. For once we didn't have a protagonist that was surrounded by kids and other kawai stuff, I liked how they addressed the way time passes with a certain melancholy without being depressing.

The opening sequence and those flashback memories/stories were incredible.

That and Ming's veiny boobs, hahaha.

Love this game! The voice acting may be a mixed bag but the characters are unforgettable.
Many consider it the spiritual successor to FFX.
So if you like that kind of JRPG, turn-based gameplay, do not hesitate to purchase.

  • Such a good game! I remember I got hours into it levelling characters and the last disc kept crashing 😟😟 so sacked it off

Lost Odyssey is incredible. One of my favourite games of that generation. Wish MS would partner with Mistwalker again to make a LO2

I wish they would remake Turok ! Or release on game pass

Add the price of Gold membership?

Great game, highly recommended. Quite Final Fantasy-ish if you like that sort of thing.

Two awesome JRPGs, i have such fond memories of both of these games.

Lost Odyssey is the best game you'll ever read (I say this affectionately).

Yeah one of a handful of games that have legit made me cry several times, damn that story could hit hard.

If I remember correctly it came on 4 Discs originally so it's a long game.

I had a number of games on Xbox 360 that were on 2 discs. The Xbox 360 discs were limited to 8.5GB as they were only DVDs. It wouldn't compare in size to some of the games we have today.

I can remember enjoying this game but I found it repetitive. I only ever made it past the first disc.

  • The boss music in Blue Dragon always cracks me up. It's a prog rock track with melodramatic vocals and you will hear it a lot!

Sung by Ian Gillan from Deep Purple!

  • There's a few good games (Xbox One/X/S/360) games on sale for the next 2 weeks. Not good for the wallet also with the Amazon Prime deals this week :P.

Just goes to show the stupidity of Microsoft. I still have this game in box with 4 disks… They refused to support hd dvd by default and only included a standard dvd drive. Then they found by doing that, they killed Toshiba's chance of making hd dvd viable whilst also ending up having games with these massive boxes where you need to change disks so often.

Check your calendar it's not the year 2006 anymore that generation has come and gone there is not point crying about it.

The 3 rings of death was a bigger stupid mistake than DVD vs HD DVD for Microsoft

  • I remember back in the day I was up to the 3rd lost odyssey disc and my Xbox 360 got the 3 rings of death. I wasn't happy.

Blue Dragon is a bit meh imo, but Lost Odyssey is awesome.

I always used to use trueachievements to track my achievements and to see how high other players rated games.

Lost Odyssey is 4.09 out of 5, Blue Dragon is 3.63

These days I won't play any game that is rated less than 4.

  • Lost Odyssey deserves a sequel.

It's a bummer that neither of these games made it to PC, I had both on the X360 and would like to replay, but dont have the lastest Xbox consoles :(

  • I must go back and finish Blue Dragon… I got a disc copy yonks ago and the first disc has an issue but luckily manages to install so I only need it for verification.

Lost odyssey was one of my first 360 games, but I never played beyond the first battle because the tv I had at the time was too small and I couldn't read the text lol. I have it from games with gold now it seems at some point so should get cracking on that one too…. If you can be arsed there's some free DLC for that game on the Japanese Xbox store, at least there used to be, an extra dungeon or something. Compatible with our copies somehow, just not available in our region, at least that's how it used to work.

  • From the creator of final fantasy

    • Blue Dragon too.

Blue Dragon is based on a design by Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, who also supervised development and wrote the plot. It is both Mistwalker's debut title and the first title to be helmed by Sakaguchi outside of Square Enix.

One month they gave away both games for free on Xbox Gold, was a good month but I stuffed up the redemption and missed the deal. Had to buy them both on a holiday sale.

Lost Odyssey is fantastic, I played it for the first time 6 months ago. Very engaging story, world and characters (I usually skip story / cut scenes, but not with this one). I was surprised by how engaging, involved and addictive the combat is (although very repetitive at times) and the side quests / puzzle stuff is a real treat. The 4 disc thing is a mess, get it digitally.

  • 60fps?

    • No they are both running at original 360 release specs, so 30fps 720p.
They would be both look amazing if they got the 4K 60fps treatment some other old 360 games got for free, such a pity they missed out.

      • Ah that’s a shame, I can’t do 30 anymore

    • You can on Xenia if you have a decent PC, check this out

Not sure about Xbox one / series but if you have an Xbox 360 still you can download the game onto a USB hard drive and then there's heaps of tools to copy it from the USB onto your PC so you can play it in the emulator.

  • Lost Odyssey digital was free for limit time many years ago.

Still great price. I never played it yet. Sad to see Xbox 360 had more exclusive JRPG games than Xbox One & Xbox Series!

I owned Blue Dragon physical, but I don't mind buying cheaper digitally on my Xbox One to avoid switch discs. Yep I'm super lazy. Thanks OP.
