  • Says $1169 for me?

Some reason it pasted wrong link. Fixed now.

  • HODL crowd must be starting to struggle

    • +11

Honestly if I didn't need an Nvidia card for very occasional machine learning use, I'd have snapped up an AMD card recently. They're so much better value, especially at the mid-range where you're not going to be using DLSS/Ray Tracing anyway. It's been very tempting.

      • -3

They're so much better value, especially at the mid-range where you're not going to be using DLSS/Ray Tracing anyway

The mid-range is exactly where you need DLSS the most, or FSR for AMD too now. The high-end is where you want Ray Tracing.

For example, DLSS gave my RTX 2070 Super double its original life in my PC. Have been using it until now, where I would I have upgraded to the 3000 series without it, since I game at 4K mostly. It allowed me to wait out the over-priced & mostly low-stock 3000 series, and I can happily wait until the 4000 series cards drop to upgrade.

        • +6

From what I've gathered it only works well for upscaling to 4k, where you start with an already-high resolution, and I don't expect many mid-range card owners would have 4k monitors (especially since they're not even a noticeable percentage on Steam's most recent hardware survey). Then there's the question of whether mid-range cards can manage that high starting resolution for modern games going forward.

          • +2

@CodeExplode: Yep that's pretty much it,1080p is terrible, 1440p is decent and 4k can get close to native and where it makes the most sense…

            • +2

@scud70: Truly remarkable that it's 2022 and there's still misinformation going around about the importance of DLSS/FSR to mid-range cards especially and the quality improvements of Ray Tracing for high-end cards. But keep on believing the words of whoever you wish.

FYI most of the current misinformation about DLSS and FSR came from their early days where those statements were correct based on the early implementations of those technologies. The current implementation of DLSS for example, at 2.4.6, has pretty much almost eliminated even ghosting.

              • @ThatsCheap: I call BS on that. DLSS still has smearing and a softer picture on warzone.

                • @tshar104: Because Warzone is forcing an older version of DLSS, and if you replace it, the game will automatically override the new version with an older one.

Once they have updated their database to 2.4.6, you'll notice the massive difference.

        • +1

4000/7000 GPUs will probably need a new PSU as they appear to be power hogs and it also seems to be a BIG gap between the pricing in each segment (top 2k+PSU) (mid 1500, PSU) and (low, $750-1200 may need adaptors and >800PSU)

    • +8

No, not at all. These cards are years old now.

    • +5

Yep I’ve caved. Have been scraping by on a 1050ti

    • Should have been hard to see this deal for the people who bit the bullet on 849 6800 deal few days ago.

  • +2

Performs above a 3080 Ti in raw performance according to Tom's Hardware https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

Though you'll lose some ray tracing performance (which as I understand it, isn't currently widely used or performance friendly), and the ability to upscale to 4k using DLSS (but then AMD have a new alternative to that which might take off, and I don't think almost anybody is using 4k monitors anyway, given that they don't even get a note in the most recent Steam hardware survey).

  • +21

NICE DROP! was $1.7k around 4 months ago
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/682015

what a crazy dump $200 loss a month. AIB definitely is sweating with excess stock. No rush to buy….only more good prices to come from now on.

    Your move……Ngreedia :P

    • Theyve already moved, just it might not have filtered to the Aus market yet. They slashed their own RRP for a lot of their product stack in the US already. Sources suggest itll keep going down because they have a huge surplus.

  • +7

    I'm still waiting for the magic 200-220w TDP RX7700XT with the performance of a RTX3090Ti / RX6950XT
My guess it will come out early next year

    This RX6800XT is a 300W TDP card

    • RX 7000s looks so good next gen if rumours are true

      • +6

        They never are

  • +4

    I'll take it for 700

    • +3

      Is that you Jimmy????

      • +1

        Honestly with the $350 6600xt, we might see a $700 6800xt.

        • +1

Hehe yeh I think it's definitely possible… 6600XT might even hit $300 like 5600XT did just before covid and right when 30 series was released… Was just poking fun since its a bit of a Jimmy thing to say 🙂

  • +3

Better deal than the recent 999$ 6900 XT? Google a bit and it said 6900 XT is around 10-15% better in raw performance, but pricing here is 20% cheaper so better p/p.

    • +2

10-15% better in raw performance, but pricing here is 20% cheaper

Nope, it's 10-15% more performance for a 25% higher price. You're comparing different percentages.

      • Yeah different percentages but still correct: 20% cheaper = 25% higher in term of real money.

        • +7

Yes, but if you say it's 20% cheaper then it also makes sense to say the performance is 9-13% worse.

  • +4

Oof and I just bought the 6800 for 799 off mwave. Pays to hodl. Still happy with my purchase.

    • +2

Same. Doesn't always pay to HODL, as I've already clocked many many hours of gaming enjoyment on my new 6800. Well worth it to me!

    • +1

The 6800 uses 250W this card pushes 300w.. thats a win for the 6800

      • +4

        Undervolt ;)

        • but you can also Undervolt the 6800 …

    • +1

You have to buy at some point, if you are always holding for the lowest price or newer model you will never buy. Those yelling "HODL" will still be doing that well after these cards have hit their lowest price and sold out and the replacements are way more expensive.

  • +2

    I don't need it
    I don't need it
    😓

  • +5

    HODLERS are grimacing hard tonight.

    • My dad wants me to wait for the new models I try to explain shit but he doesn't listen

      • +2

Just get this and upgrade to the new model when it is released. You can't lose.

  • +2

    Great price

  • +7

These cards will still drop (Lovelace/RDNA 3 haven't even been officially announced yet and this generation is massively overproduced) but at around this price it should be pretty close to the price/perf of the next generation.
Also, 6 months ago a 6800 XT for $1600-1700 was considered a deal. This is a 50% price drop since then.

  • I will bite if the Asus TUF RX 6800 XT goes for this price or even $50 more.

    • +5

This is MSI's top of the range card

      • +3

It's MSI's equivalent to the Strix if I'm not mistaken. Should easily compete with the TUF.

  • +1

I'm planning on upgrading to a 6700 XT, but I would be very tempted by this if it wasn't for the fact my PSU won't support it.

    • You can limit the clock and undervolt to keep power in check.
      Big difference in fps.

  • very nice price :)

    nice find op .

  • +9

I have no intention of getting a PC within the next 6 months and yet I still check these deals because Ozbargain addiction and enjoying the collective HODL.

    • I have been trying hard to let go of this addiction

    • What pc will you get in the 7 month?

I ask because I'm in the same boat.

      • AM5 will be out by then, it's difficult to speculate on exact details but if you're waiting that long anyway, I'd most likely be building around AM5 and DDR5. AM4 and DDR4 will be nearing the end by then, so you may as well buy into the start of the next generation at that point. If you're looking for good value today, obviously my advice wouldn't be to "just wait 7 months", but if you're waiting that long anyway then I'd definitely utilise the timing to skip the tail end of current gen.

  • hmmm seems I can wait a little longer for some Bargains :D

  • +3
  • +1

I'm waiting for the return of the $999 6900xt…

    • +1

I thought you already bought it for $1099. Did they refund it for you?

      • Yep, and by the time they approved it the $999 one was sold out, much sadness

        edit: good memory mate!

        • +4

Value wise this beats the $999 6900 xt. But obviously isn't as powerful.

          • +1

@maverickjohn: Yeah, I'm very tempted, but if I get the 6900xt I'll be less tempted by the new wave of GPU's coming out at the end of the year (that's my theory and I'm sticking to it!!!!!!!!!)

            • @Lionheart: Hahaha fair enough. I hope when you get your card that you will be happy for the sacrifice you made. You would have deserved it

              • +1

@maverickjohn: I would have still been annoyed paying $100 more for a <extremely marginally> inferior card, OzB membership card still intact

            • @Lionheart: The theory isn't great, the 4070 (out early 2023) will be around the 6900 XT, but the 4080 will be ~50-60% stronger and 4090 ~100%.

  • +1

pretty damn good price and at this point who knows when rdna 3/lovelace will show up… it's very possible you could get several months (or even the rest of the year!) of enjoyment out of this card before the new generation drops

  • +8

Yep i just pulled the trigger :)

My GTX 970 finally retired .

Even jimmy would approve of this purchase.

    • +2

Doubtful. I will wait for Jimmy to respond

    • Doubt it.
      But i do.

    • I have a 1080 and am holding till next gen!

      • Me to ooo! My pc is 9 years now, 1080ti, just Hodling.

        • Yu are probably CPU limited anyway.

  • This or 3070Ti for $899? Using it for 4k PC/Xbox gaming and Oculus VR gaming. Any experience?

I know with 4K we need more ram so 16GB vs 8GB, but nvidia uses GDDR6X which is faster and has DLSS upscaling, so I am not sure
I know this has better raw performance but nvidia has better encoding for wireless VR… but people also said with VirtualDesktop AMD is prefectly fine… so I am not sure

    • from what Im told VR is much better with Nvidia - and i have 6800 XT

  • I would have pulled the trigger if it had DLSS.

    • +2

Which is to say it was a different card by a different manufacturer? Odd remark.
I had a 2080, didn't use DLSS in most titles, didn't look good at 1440.
      Happy with my 6900xt

  • Quite tempted to upgrade from my 1080..

    • +1

Finding it hard to part ways with my 1080 also, still holds up to this day and the aesthetics (although trivial) are unmatched for my EVGA card.

  • The question is what game am I playing with this?

  • +4

pulled the trigger, can't hold anymore, will start hunting for graphic card again prob 3 years later.

  • also pulled the trigger on this, cheers man

  • +1

    Wow… Now we're talking.

  • +1

Got a 1070ti I'm itching to upgrade from.

    Though I'm still running an i7 2600k.

    • Don’t do it. That cpu too old. My oced 3570k bottlenecked my 1080 and I had to upgrade.

    • Your current GPU would be very limited by the CPU and a few GPU would probably not show any difference. My 1060 ran match faster after upgrading from a 4690 to a 12400.

  • +5

Hodled as long as I could… $800 for a premium 6800xt is too good to pass up.

    • This is literally the price of a lower end RX 6600 XT a year ago.
      - RX 6700 XT upgrade - Free
      - RX 6800 XT upgrade - Free
      - RX 6800 XT high end model upgrade - Free

I am not due for a new PC build for another 11 months. Otherwise would have bought this or that RX 6690 XT for $999 last month.

  • +1

Great price for a premium card….

  • +3

Looks like all the crytpo-apes gone back to driving uber and door-dash.

  • +1

Thanks OP - I just picked one up for myself, thought it'd be a nice little upgrade from the 3070 I am using.

  • It's strange MSI put ball bearing fans in their high end Nvidia cards but not the AMD ones. I wonder if Jensen made them do it?

  • Was looking at techfast i5-12400f and rtx 3060ti for around $1300: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/711281

Am i better off getting something like this card, and building system around it? Not looking to spend more than around 1.5k total. Which seems doable with $800 graphics card? I'm thinking similar to above pc but with this graphics card. Never built a pc, and don't know much about components - if you can't tell! But willing to give building one a shot for some fun if it gave me a better pc at the end.

    • +1

I think getting this and building a R5 5600/ equivalent Intel system would be better.

    • +1

Yes build. You will get much better parts. Plus this 6800XT can overclock

      • Do you think it will come in around $1500 total? I'm assuming i'd have to go slightly better psu. Different motherboard too maybe? But neither seem that pricey anyway.

        • +1

Go over to the Desktop section on whirlpool. The users there can help you select components for a PC.

        • ryzen 5500 $198
          B450 motherboard $100
          Case $50
          PSU $60
          16gb RAM $100

Yeah youll have cash to spare for a few games or a monitor as well.

          • @tshar104: yeah thanks. I've put in an orders for all but a graphics card. I spent a little more than planned so far (under 1k - just). So with this card, I'd come in just under 1.8k. But a good deal on a rx 6700 xt would suit me and reduce the cost.

  • +3

Oof. This is the one, thanks for your service faithful 980ti

  • Still HODL ?

    • no, poop your pants, this is a mad deal,

    • depends on what you have currently.

      • Vega 64.
