  • Just purchased thank you!

Was planning to buy at JB hi-fi, when they had it for $587 a few months ago!

    Thanks for sharing!

Out of interest what inner bur settings are people using?

    • Okay had to correct my suggestion 😁.
6 but would recommend 5 (finer). On 6 I generally have to set the external to 3 to 5 (depending on roast). Moving the inner burr to the suggested 5… finer will result in the outer setting moving away from the fine extreme back to the middle. What I've been able to suss out… darker roasts, or drier beans do better with a finer grind (in my case 3 on the outer). Lighter roasts, or fresh beans are a couple of notches up at 5 (on the outer). Hope that helps.

  • How does this compare to the newer breville express impress which has got the automatic tamping? It's coming to ~720 with 10% off gift card and 15%off code. Any thoughts?

    • Check this out… not a review but Hoon's thoughts on the new machine vs Express.

Very good coffee channel for a Breville info. Used it when deciding on the Express.

  • What’s the difference between colour black sesame and salted liquorice?

    • 3 shades

  • Damm paid $599 but got $140 store credit

  • Will JB price match for another color? I also have like $300 JB gc that id like to use.

    • they gave me $580 on the SS edition with a link.

they don't have the same color hence no price match.

seems no one will deliver this (good guys, bing lee) where JB will to it for $8!

still a decent saving on a good machine I reckon, not going to waste any more time finding a slightly better deal.

They give me a price match for oos one which I couldnt buy lol, and refused to match for SS. I'd get it for 580 also. Will give another go to chat!

  • What is the difference between this one and the one in this link?

    • I think only colour

  • Debated all day. Was just about to need to splurge for another couple of hundred $$ on nespresso pods. I like the convenience but I do much like having a good long black from a cafe.

Decided this will be more fun (once I learn to use it), make better coffee (once I learn how to use it), lots more variety in beans, let me support local roasters, more environmentally friendly and hopefully cheaper in the long run!

    • And now to also watch Ozbargain for beans

      • 100% recommend Airjo beans. Almost always discounted <$30/kg , super fast express post (I normally receive the day after roasting), and taste great.

  • Very good price! Even better with giftz card and cashrewards!

    Bought one finally 😁

  • Picked up Breville The Barista Express - Black Sesame for $534.73 using 10% off Ultimate eGift Cards (The original deal wasn't available for a Click and Collect)

  • Anyone able to extract beans exactly like the coffee shops with so much crema? Mine comes out watery with the tiniest amount of crema. Are there videos you use to help you setup the machine properly (I did watch some videos and they were weighing it and all but unsure if that’s what everyone does). I use Aldi beans - is that also why it sucks? Should I buy the $30 a kilo deals that I see here vs $9 at Aldi?

    • You should be able to get good results. I use ALDI beans too and have no issues.most common issues will be the grind might be too coarse and you might not be tamping the coffee evenly or with enough pressure resulting in channeling where the water finds weak spots and runs through that spot quickly.

It's a journey, so don't stress and keep trying. I suspect the built-in grinder might not be as good as a standalone one either.

SO many variables go into making a coffee.

What's the quality of your water? Tap or filtered?
What's the weight in vs weight out? Usually you try to go for a 1:2 ratio eg 17g of coffee in and 32g of coffee out at anywhere between 20-30seconds.
When were the beans roasted? 6 months ago? supermarket beans (even campos ones from coles) are generally well out of date.

I'm guessing your grind is probably off too. Make it finer or coarser to get the ratio above in the time specified and tweak accordingly.

When I first bought my coffee machine (Rancilio Silvia) the shots came out in 5 seconds and were absolutely horrid. Turns out that coffee beans from Coles were rubbish. As soon as I went with Campos or any other good brand, it worked fine.

      • Is the 20-30 seconds from pressing start or from when the expresso begins flowing into the cup?

        • Not sure about this particular machine but it should start flowing pretty soon after you start. within a few seconds. If not then you have too much pressure behind the puck which usually means too fine a ground or tamp'd too much

          • +1

@coffeeinmyveins: Most of the Breville machines have a pre-infusion feature so when you press start, the pre-infusion takes about 5 secs before the machine starts brewing.

    • I was in your boat - Now I make a mad brew thats better than the coffee shops.

Adjust your grind so its finer - and buy a tamper/distributor tool off amazon (look on youtube how to use it - this made the biggest improvement).

If you are still having issues, look into making an 'inner grinder adjustment'

Once you "get it" - you will be over the moon with the quality.

P.S make sure you warm up everything (the longer the better) - This involves warming the basket (leaving it in the machine), the machine itself and your cup (leave it on top of the machine). >10 minutes is ideal. The longer the better

  • Great deal! Have been wanting one of these for a while now.

Where does everyone get their beans from?

    • +1

AIRJO - the have deals here alot and a great selection of beans and styles - SUMATRA and SARATOGA and faves of mine. You pay a bit, but they are amazing beans.

      • Looks great. Thanks!

  • Bummer I don’t have a good guys store near by but they will send one for $40. But there goes nearly half the discount :/

  • JB did it for $580 with $8 delivery - ordered at lunchtime yesterday and got it at 11am this morning! Very practical unit! Got it for our warehouse. Need to dial it in before I can really comment on if it's better than my Flair handpress….better be!
