Didn't like this movie. What a let down. Love the games.

    • +19

Agree. Every character was miscast. Holland and Wahlberg don't resemble anything like Nath and Sully, and I couldn't get past that - as petty as that seems.

      • +11

Should have cast Nathan Fillion or Liam Hemsworth.

      • +10

Not petty. Part of the attraction of basing a movie on a game is to attract the existing fan base, and if it doesn't align with expectations of how a character looks or acts, then it's a recipe for disappointment

        • Exactly

        • +1

Completely disagree. They need to cater to the widest audience, the fans of the games are going to watch it regardless. I really enjoyed the movie having never played the games, hope they make a second.

        • Big fan of the original games, and enjoyed the movie too.

      • +1

I actually thought Wahlberg could have been a good Drake. Maybe De Niro for Sully.

But yeah, that's not the move we got .Nathan Fillion would have been a good choice for Drake 20 years ago but I think is probably a little old for that role now.

        • +1

Or Brendan Fraser when he was in The Mummy

        • +6

Bruce Campbell would have been the ultimate choice for Sully.

        • Robert De Niro would be huffing and puffing and probably need a defibrillator on set not to die of heart failure doing an active movie like this. The De Niro of 30 years ago maybe.

    • +2

      Very forgettable film

    • Actually if you had no idea about the games, wasn't a terrible movie. Movie and teenage kids found it enjoyable (although it was a little long)

  • +2

As a big fan of the games, I couldn't possibly give less of a (profanity).

    • +10

When they chose Marky Mark over Bruce Campbell to play Sully, I noped out.

      • +2

Oh man, Bruce Campbell would have been perfect! Didn't even think of him.

      • +1

Nathan Fillion would have been perfect 16 years ago, but he's just too old now. Even in the 2018 fan film he was too old. Tom Holland is young enough and twinky enough to star in the role for decades and if all the sequels make as much money as the first one then they will be making these for decades.

        • Nathan Drake was based on Nathan Fillion when it came out 15 years ago, He could probably play Uncharted 4 Nate.

          • +1

@Jimbuscus: Nathan Drake could probably play Sully. Fillion is 51 and is starting to move and sound like an old man. Nathan Drake has a youthful voice in the games, capable of high pitches like his voice hasn't fully broke, but Fillion has a deep voice nowadays, he moves slow af too even in the fan film. And Drake does all kinds of crazy stunts, runs, scales walls, falls long distances. It would be embarrassing to Fillion play Drake today, even playing a 50 year old Drake would be embarrassing. Like watching a de-aged De Niro pretend to beat a man in The Irishman.

            • @AustriaBargain: The next Uncharted should be Nate in Sully's position, with a son.

              • @Jimbuscus: Agreed, but "the message" dictates the future of the Uncharted games must be a woman of colour.

  • +2

A passable movie, but don't bother watching if you're not a fan of the games (which is the only reason you'd bother watching it).

    • Passable is a good description. I watched it on an international flight, wasn't a waste of my time. I've seen a lot of worse movies.

It didn't really have the same wow factor that the games did, but I don't really expect that from Hollywood.

  • +10

Underrated movie IMO. Quite a fun movie.

    • +12

Agreed. Never played the games and I thought it wasn’t a bad watch at all. I read the same negative comments around the new Jurassic Park. Who watches these movies with Oscar-winning expectations? They’re just fun action flicks…

      • +8

That's the problem. The studios make these movies seemingly by people who aren't fans and end up disappointing existing fans.

        • but those fans watch it anyway and complain and then watch the next movie as well and complain. I enjoyed it, light watching, not going to win an Oscar for the acting or story but worth a watch

          • @xazark: Some times the changes and complaints can be positive. Sonic turned out to be great after that initial trailer revealing Sonic's new look.

            • @Caped Baldy: True and maybe they will take the feedback onboard for Uncharted 2 - assuming they make it, Sony haven't announced it yet, still enjoyed the movie either way.

      • +1

I never played the games and loved the new Jurassic World, but this movie was kinda stupid and it seemed miscast and awkward most of the time. I like a fun movie as much as the next person, but at least try and do it right!

    • I agree, wasn't bad. Sure it's not the most amazing movie and the story line is pretty basic but if you go expecting a fun adventure movie with some action and humour thrown in then you'll enjoy it.

  • I think this is where the OP found the rumoured news on the Uncharted

There are other additions added on the UK Prime Video too like the Sonic and the Hedgehog 2

    • +2

All of August’s Prime releases were in an email to Subscribers yesterday/today.

      • Ahh yup. I did find the email just then, thanks for clarifying! :)

  • +5

I think Tom Holland was a awful miscast, but the film was enjoyable overall.

    • Typical Sony strategy, leeching off other's popularity.

Remember Tom was fresh out of the spiderman movies when this was released

  • -8

    Looks crap

    • +1

Just like your neg.. oh wait!

    • +1

Agree, I saw this last night on an overnight flight and it was pretty crap. Didn't know it was based on a game - will have to look it up, hope it's on Switch

      • -1

Sony only. In my opinion, they're overhyped. Think Tomb Raider but with worse controls and more cutscenes.

  • +1

    So bad

  • Arg. For the fourth time in the last year a video I've rented on Prime becomes included for free. 🙄

    • +3

Usually by the third time you learn your lesson. Bring on the fifth 😂

  • +3

Samaritan is apparently coming to Amazon Prime on 26 August.

  • +1

Haiyaaaa this been out for ages

  • +4

    This was better https://youtu.be/v5CZQpqF_74
Nolan North's cameo was the best part of the feature film.

  • -2

    Such a stupid movie

  • +1

Dreadful movie….even worse than The Lost City (Bullock/Tatum). Don't waste your time.

    • +4

Ok then. I didn't like this movie and you should watch Dune instead. Better?
Imagine hating the idea of people sharing their reviews of things.

      • -3

Dune? If I wanted to watch half a movie, I would watch that.

        • I agree, I turned dune off not even half way in. Utter crap

    • Not new, but watch Perfect Sense if you have not already

      • -2

Can you share me the DVD?

    • Your username doesn’t check out

      • -5

        le reddit army is here

    • +1

Movie was terrible. To be honest I haven't seen anything lately that I would recommend in this genre. I would love to see a good quality remake of Alan Quartermains ' King Solomon's Mines. I am looking forward to the Prequel of Lord of the Rings

      • -2

I would love to see a good quality remake of Alan Quartermains ' King Solomon's Mines

        Ugh… ANOTHER one!? ZZZzzzz ;-)

I've never seen any LotR, but did see on youtube fans complaining about the cast bragging it's going to be another woke fest, "destroying Tolkien", etc… then a few days later saw something else about the producers reversing that stance.

  • +13

It’s not even a deal unless you’re offering me a discount on my subscription. God forbid people start posting all of Netflix’s releases each month

  • Thanks comments. Never paid for a rental on prime yet and dont plan to especially for this " again more cheaply and quickly made over hyped rubbish " . Why not spend the money on adding seasons to some established very good stalled tv shows . Churning out crap .

    • Because it’s cheaper to produce crap and you will still pay for Prime.

  • I have Prime free delivery, watched a fair few Amazon shows but still got them all from… other places.

Pretty sure the only reason Prime TV is a thing, is cause Jeff Bezos wanted to go to the "cool" parties.

    • Honestly, I have both Netflix & Prime, I watch mostly Prime. The interface is bad, but the content is great if you can find it thru all the seasons.

  • This movie is available to rent for ~40c AUD via Turkish Apple ITunes Store.

Just seeing holland on the movie poster makes me believe that this is going to be a horrendous movie.

  • Can't wait to miss this

  • Another smash hit by Sony that made morbillion bucks

    • Actually I enjoyed it better then Morbius. Granted it wasn't as good as the games but as a movie it does bare some resemblance of the games. Like the gun shot sounds they used were pulled from the game, some cameos here and there and Easter eggs was icing which was a nice touch. They didn't use Nate's theme enough.

I had low expectations of the movie, and never touched the movie until recently, the first 10 minutes was pretty boring and I almost dropped out but luckily it picked up. That's just my 2 cents.

  • -4

Fun movie! Tom Holland is great as usual and well-cast for his agility and physicality!

  • -1

    Zzzzzz

  • Watched the intro some CGI garbage that people parted with money to see, drawn in by big names on the Billboard people so invested in some movies and consuming content they will think everything is great.

  • Other than the 3rd act that was somewhat decently entertaining, the rest of the movie was garbage… none of the jokes landed and the timing and pacing was horrid, a stark contrast to the games which had good laughs and perfect pacing.

And what the hell did they do with the relationship between Nate and Sully??!

  • I think if you dont call it Uncharted. It would have been an Ok-ish movie. But Uncharted fans like myself just cant get over the fact the main characters are nothing close to the real life actors.

The Netflix Resident Evil drama is in the same boat.

  • +2

Why is it that most of the "subs" deals get so many votes but the comments mostly say that the movies suck?

    • The same reason whirlpool is called whingepool.

    • Why is it that I have Netflix, paramount+, prime video & Disney+ and I still feel like I need to torrent from time to time just to watch the actual movies I want.

Not sure why I even pay for all these subscriptions… I think it's actually cheaper if I just go to the movies every other week.

      • Not just movies but if you want to watch a particular TV series it's usually only released on one streaming service and occasionally there's a delay from when it's released live.

      • Gees, if you torrent why are you paying for any subs.

  • I've heard this is bad but im a fan of the games so i actually want to watch it

    • Save your bucks. Would not recommend watching this.

      • got prime already so it wont cost me anything - is it really that bad?

        • +1

          Very forgettable.

        • -1

Nah people just love to whinge. I thought the movie was quite enjoyable but know nothing about the game so had no expectations.

          • @axistentz: I know of the game title but never played it. Thought the movie was meh tbh.

            • +1

@xoom: It's fairly entertaining but probably not something I'd watch again. I've definitely seen worse movies e.g. most of the Transformers movies, all of the Jurassic Worlds, and WW1984.

  • +1

Horrible adaptation of the game but the movie is ok as for as average movies go. Wasn't the best but it was still entertaining enough. I see people commenting on the new Jurassic Park movie, that one I wanted to end, it was boring and crap.

  • -3

Worse than the games, and the games were terrible.

    • +1

      Don't feed the troll.

    • have you played an Uncharted game? any Uncharted game is Sonys pride and joy its a AAA title threw and threw. If its not your like of game then fine but you can't say its a terriable game when millions love it.

      • -1

Are there nine games in the series? Geeze is the series totally mined and average? The newer ones are passable, but the originals were clunky failures and deserve Tom Holland and his utter mediocrity. Millions of people love Coldplay and voting for the National Socialists. You can't trust people.

  • I love how prime lately have been having a good selection of movies now some are new releases too. And the amazon orginals are good too.

  • if they had used Nathan Fillion as the actor for the movie to play the role of Drake it would have been a good movie. But with out him as the main actor with his likeness from the games, it just another movie that tried to copy a video game.

  • +1

So many downing this movie when it's just light hearted fun, trying to compare to a game. When people rave about all the utter rubbish that Disney is pouring out.
