I'm on Vic Opticomm with ABB. I get full speeds (~920-930Mb/s) at all times of day.

    • +1

Opticomm is so damn hit and miss, and their standards are quite low. If you continue to have speed issues and dropouts with ABB, likely the issue isn't with the RSP, but the infrastructure.

Why is upload so smol for 1000?

    • +1

Cause then they'd have to admit that this whole mixed approach to building the NBN was a waste of time/money. Although FTTP can do higher uploads, they need to throttle residential speeds to 50 to be in line with what the other NBN technologies (FTTB, FTTC, FTTN, HFC) can handle aswell. So basically politics, that's why.

  • Not ABB related - I am finally leaving mate. Superloop or exetel? ABB is just a touch too expensive for me at this moment. I know superloop now owns exetel but is there any difference? I have ready that exetel have free static IP once opted out of cgnat. Can anyone confirm?

  • What if I’m on a FTTN network? We still pay for the vdsl modem every time we switch to a different service provider, right? I’m currently with Optus even though we hate the poor service but locked with their highly locked modem and hesitant to switch because we don’t want to pay another $200 for another service providers modem. :(

Our address is due for a FTTP free upgrade by end of 2023. :(

Generally you can use the same modem, with the exception of voice.
(eg: Telstra FTTN modems work fine with ABB), I chose to save $10 and went on the casual VOIP plan for $0.
Either purchased a cheap ATA adapter or use a mobile phone app (use a paid one with Push Notifications), it works perfectly.
Unlike Telstra ABB provide the Voip details, so you can setup on any Voip Device.

      • Ah. I thought Optus and relate modem are severely locked to be used with other providers or unlock extra features like double NAT.

  • Require 30 day notice for cancellation so need to call and cancel as soon as service starts for 1 month free?

    • since when? they pro-rata refunds normally

      • Just from what I could see in their terms and conditions

        1. SUSPENSION AND CANCELLATION OF SERVICES
12.1 Your rights to cancel or terminate
          (a) You may cancel a service by giving us 30 days’ notice in accordance with
the appropriate process as outlined on our website
        • hmmmmm

        • That's new to me. Ok will stay away from them. This is a catch

    • their email says:
"To cancel your service/s after connection, you must call us on 1300 880 905 to ensure a pro-rata credit is applied. You may close your service with us at any time during your billing period and receive a pro-rata credit or refund. Please note: a pro-rata credit or refund will not be given in situations where we have cancelled your service as per our terms and conditions."

i think they don't require any notice, you can cancel anytime.

      • Thats good then maybe they have that T&C in case they change their mind

    • Unless they've changed t&cs ABB offer pro-rata refunds.

  • Why is ABB such bad value?
For a 400/50 connection I'm paying less than than what they charge for 250/25 plan.
This is on launtel, no congestion, static IP, consistently cracking 470/45.

To feed their investors and shareholders. ABB is history. It's so 2018

So is this $1 Telstra deal still available?

ABB customer for over 2 years but sick of them rewarding new customers and shafting existing ones.

  • Can this be stacked with the referral credit? Struggling to get a referral code from anyone!

  • anyone managed to get the deal who has been with Origin in the last 6months? maybe worth calling them?

  • -1

anyone else having issue applying the promo code 'moving'. coming up as invalid for me

  • I have never been there customer…does anyone know if they do credit check?

    • +1

no credit check but require card / bank details obviously

  • code works, although i was a customer before. thanks

  • Can I churn after a month or two after the free first month?

    • Churn at anytime.

  • Does anyone know if you can apply both the MOVEIN code and a referral code during the sign up? Or is it 1 or the other?

    Thanks

    • Choose one code.

        Thanks @Twix

  • I meed to change ISP and was going to go with Aussie but this doesn't look promising. I switched from iiNet to Superloop about 8 months ago amd have been miserable since. It drops out constantly, sometimes for so long I need to reset my modem. And although I am on a higher speed than when I was with iinet, its slower. As in if I am watching netflix, I can't browse my ipad at the same time. I've called superloop and they said theres no issue. Can't stand it anymore.

    • As an ex Telstra customer, no issues with Aussie, in-fact streaming is improved. Very transparent with CVC allocation and usage, just jump on the portal.
No real issues with Telstra either, ABB was better value and they provided the voice details.
Moved from FTTN to FTTP and didn't want to be stuck with Telstra's crap modem\router.

    • are you sure it's not your modem/router that's the issue, or even wifi interference

  • Code didn't work on website, chat online said to call up and quote it, and it worked doing it this way with the salesperson just putting it through. Free NBN continues. How long have people gone without paying? I started with origin was it 5 months ago?

    • +1

10th month now for me, started with swoop

  • guys, how to choose an ISP which has a good reliable inet for working from home (video calls, vpn to corp networks) in my area - people share opinions here, but everyone from different burbs/cities, so might not be applicable

    thanks for any advice

    • Long-term you get what you pay for, Telstra or Aussie.
Other providers like Exetel and Superloop milage varies drastically by suburb. If your in an area where they don't have a large customer base, then they can be excellent.
If price is an issue, try a budget ISP in your area (without a contract) and if they are no good just churn. Say you sign-up with Exetel and they are excellent, and service drops, just churn away. If you just want good reliable internet then Telstra or Aussie.

      • Launtel is good too

      • Exetel hard to churn from.

  • Code not working

    • Just call them and they will apply it accordingly. I just signed up over the phone and they applied the code at their end.

  • +1

Does anyone know what is defined as a new customer? In addition to the 6 months of course. Is it the person buying the internet plan, or the house address?

I’m wondering if we can get a different person signing up in the same house within 6 months

    • +1

I suspect that they flag the address but if you call them and it's a different person they will allow, I mean rental places can change all the time

      • Haha nice let's do a round table with different person every 6 months

        • +1

I think there's a few Harry Potters & Mike Hunt's out there where the ISP's don't do credit checks

  • +4

Spoke with ABB's Retention team earlier this week, let them know I was thinking of changing ISPs and asked them if they could offer me a better deal than my current plan. Managed to knock $20 off. FYI the Retention team is apparently new.

I think it's dependent on the plan you're on (I'm on a 250Mbps download speed, unlimited data), and how long you've been with them (about a year).

  • which is the best company to upgrade my nbn to FTTP

    • +1

They all the same. Upgrade is done by nbn not the rsp.

  • Code doesn't work for me. This address/name hasn't been with ABB for over a year.

    • Call up and they'll apply the code manually.

  • Code works for me

Kinda sad that I'm leaving Launtel, they have been very good to me when I took refugee there for a few days

  • Still works :)

    • Doesn't work

  • +1

    Code still works :)

  • Code didn’t work for me

    • same

      • I called them and they said they can apply it after signup but I assume that you means you pay first then get a credit

        • +1

shouldn't I did similar as code wouldnt work and they applied it so 1st month was free

          • @Irishness: Must depend on who you get

            • +1

@DemocracyManifest: I did online chat they advised I needed to call them, the cr then just got authorisation to apply the code and was all sorted so if anyone is having issue just tell them to speak to a supervisor assuming they have not previously been a customer within the period

  • Anyone got our next month free nbn offer yet? Where are we switching? I've seen no deals on the main page and not looking forward to actually paying for it again.

  • +1

seems like it doesn't work anymore…

  • do they do credit checks and id check?

  • Worked - thanks
