Great deals on these watersporting PFD's (PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICE)
I was looking for these Kinda ones. I saw one of these with RRP price tag of $69.99 and now only $25. Worth buying if you gonna need them in future.
If you are going to buy multiple PFD's or looking to spend $100 already, get $30 of $100 spend Making these $25 PFD's as little as $17.75 each.

I was told by guys at store that level 50 and 50S are for like Fresh waters like rivers etc. aka NOT TO BE USED IN OCCEANS or places with like high water waves/tides etc.

And yes these ones are CERTIFIED TO some Australian Standards, unlike the $30 cheapo ones from eBay

Neoprene ones are $50 but honestly I reckon normal ones do the job too, I personally wont work other $25 on Neoprene one but technically its a bit better quality.

For kayaking may use these ones instead of the All purpose ones.
Kayaking

But personally I'd rather go for the All purpose ones (Red color $25 ones of YOUR SIZE)

If you are wanting to spend $100 or more you may consider the 10% of with Gift card deal from earlier
Can also create a new account to score $20 credit (on minimum $100 Spend). Making it 4 of these for $70 (or 17.75 each)

I personally only needed 2, and bought these earlier, so couldn't use the $20 credit (didn't reach $100 minimum spend limit)

    • FWIW I just tried this, creating an account as I had $110 in the cart: it denied me the $20 credit.

No idea why. Possibly I had already triggered free shipping? I might email them tomorrow to follow up.

      • Did you get the email ? Saying welcome to the BCF etc.

It should have said a Coupon code for $20 off (with $100 minimum spend)
I think its generic code, Otherwise email should also say like or Instore show this email to team member or something like that.

Otherwise you can try CLUB20OFF as a coupon code I think Its a generic code which works with new accounts unless they changed it.

        • Yup, that's the code they sent me. Wouldn't apply.

NBD, I figure I still have the credit.

I just got off chat with BCF, they said the coupon doesn't work with clearance items. I've asked them to make that clearer in their email to save us all some time.

        • Thanks for posting; you've saved me some time.

Seems kinda dodgy TBH. Bit like TGG and their "store credit" games…

        • It was definitely working when I posted and last night.

They might have fixed the loophole to get stuff cheaper I guess

        • dude the coupon code is working online fully fine https://i.imgur.com/NDblVws.png

      • It is working on website IDK how you had problem before I just created a new account and got the $20 credit working fully fine

    • I do not recommend using the gift card deal. Per their FAQ you have to enter these gift cards in the credit card section and can thus only be used for purchases below the $100 value of the gift card.

When using the card as per the card's FAQ, the BCF checkout says "Your order could not be submitted, please use alternate payment method".

      • You can use those Gift cards in store and easily do split payments.

Just have to add those Ultimate Gift Cards to your phone Wallet (Apple or Google)

        • Just did that. Can also exchange the 'Him' gift card for a 'BCF' gift card. More effort than it was worth imo.

So the RRP is just $30 and discount is $5?

Thanks great timing. I just bought a foldable/origami kayak.

    • Did you get it from Kickstarter? :)

      The oru lake ?

      • The Oru Inlet from Kathmandu

  • I have this. It works. Gets quite warm. Not very comfortable for kayaking. If you want a life vest for kayaking or fishing, the inflatable PFD are much more comfortable, well worth the extra dollars IMO.

    • You may consider this one for that, which is level 100 and hence suitable for oceans too. 2 for $30 But doesn't look cool like these Red ones.

      • Why would I consider something less comfortable?

        • +1

Different purposes. Inflatable pfd is good as a last resort if you fall out. A regular pfd is a lot more suitable if you're doing activities where you expect to fall out - it keeps going all day and provides good buoyancy for helping get back in - think rapids, etc.

          • @afoveht: those 'brick' ones are more designed for use if you are in a boat and crossing a bar or something; they arent great if you need to move around a lot. They are thick so rub against your arms/triceps and back of the neck. The ones specifically designed for kayaking etc are so much better - large arm holes, thinner. If you need a level 100 then you do need to compromise, but not that much

I cannot advocate more for life jackets , literally saved my life.

I will not take anyone kayaking with me if they do not wear one.

    • Would love to hear your story if you care to share. Maybe the scare I need - I'm pretty lapse with my pfd, often have it barely zipped, etc.

went kayaking on parra river near liechhardt, managed to make it rodd island, rested a bit and hard lunch and then coming back the wind picked up. big wave flipped kayak, managed to swim back to shore, lost the kayak paddle , some of kayakers helped me recover the kayak. Im a good swimmer but swimming in chopping conditions is not the same as a pool or beach.

        • Did you find it harder to swim with the lifejacket tho?

          • +1

@AussieMark: Not OP but.. Of course, for most people, it's harder to swim in a life jacket. But it is also easier to keep you head above the waterline, Which is handy because drowning usually occurs when your head is below the water for too long.

          • +1

@AussieMark: swimming freestyle is harder but doable, especially if you do a 'surf style' ie head above water, but its tiring.

The best option is a 'backside breaststroke' ie lay on your back but paddle with a breaststroke style paddle, ie hands start above your head and fan down at the same level to hips (rather than going deep like freestyle). Use a normal backstroke kick. Not super fast and the life jacket does create a lot of drag; but the buoyancy means you can rest whenever you want so you get there eventually. Normal frontside breaststroke is also an option.

Subject to currents, but with a lifejacket you are pretty much a cork so you cant outswim the currents anyway. And subject to hypothermia

          • @AussieMark:

Did you find it harder to swim with the lifejacket tho?

Depends on what sort of swimming you are doing. For squad style proper swimming they would suck, but for just splashing about in the water they are more fun because you don't have to use extra effort to keep afloat. I have wake-boarding vest which is a combo of a wetsuit vest and lifejacket. I use it to swim off the the back of the boat all the time and it's great.

Cool! (Or not). Good advice and glad you made it.

I must say I used to always go without a PFD until about 10 years ago. I think that's after a law changed - prior you only needed one if you were >50m from the shore. Once I did a 2 day trip from Berowra to Mooney Mooney and thought yeah, I'll just hug the shore, stick to the old law, play ignorant. But had to cross the Hawkesbury around Bar Point, I think around 1 to 1.5km - choppy water, no boats around - that day I decided I will have a PFD with me at all times.

          • +2

@afoveht: It's also good to keep one handy so you don't have to get close to someone else you may find who can't swim.

  • +2

I have the kayaking one and it's good. Relatively comfortable and can actually keep you afloat. I think I paid about $50, at this price it's well worth it.

    • -2

The RRP is $30 so I guess you paid $50 a long time ago?

      • +4

The RRP is not $30 even though BCF says it is. Looks to have been further discounted from $XX to $30 and now $25. They are about $50ish elsewhere.

  • Would these provide any protection if I want to go out during the next purge?

    I love watersports

    • I came here to make this joke. Not surprised I was beaten to the punch.
