Chris Rock - Live - $79 + $5.95 Booking Fee (9-20 August, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide) @ Lasttix

1230

Got this email this morning. Saw him in Melbourne 5 years ago and it was a good show, in fact it was excellent.

You have to lock your phones away with those cases as likely recorded as a Netflix special. Watch that to see if you would like it if unfamiliar with his work. I think it's about a $52.75 saving based on shows that aren't offering the discount.

GC - 9/8 - Tuesday
MEL -11/8 - Thursday
SYD- 13/8 - Saturday
ADL - 17/8 - Thursday
BNE - 20/8 - Saturday

I'd fire his travel planner. Should have started in Adelaide and gone around and up to Brisbane unless he's getting buckwild in Sydney for the weekend, which he likely is.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2022.

If you think Kevin Hart is funny…..

    • +2

Last one I saw jokes were so bad people were approaching the stage in a violent rage.

      • +1

I'd pay money to see that

        • How many millions did Tyson and Holyfield make by spinning their 'incident'. It's just a matter of time before egos will make them use it to keep relevant.

  • No Perth?!

    • Perth is getting more international comics these days (mainly UK). Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican and Ed Byrne are ones that I can think of right now (still waiting for EB to reschedule though after his covid cancellation)

      • Cheers mate

    • Isn't Perth still in COVID-19 lockdown? ;p

      • still in lockdown and still living in our dark caves.

Came for the Slappy comments and was not disappointed.

    I'd fire his travel planner.

    Jesus, you're right.

Gold Coast - Melbourne - Sydney - Adelaide - Brisbane

Well, he'll be getting those air miles up.

    • In August with a bunch of pandemic viruses going around lol. Surprised if he makes it to Brisbane.

    • Fly into a soft Tue gig, acclimatise to jet lag in warm weather.

Then hit the big dollars in Mel+Syd for weekend shows, a week of quiet holiday in Adelaide, then big weekend shows in Bris?

      That's a nice working holiday.

    • I am sure his planner had a look at the map and knew what they were doing.

Touring on the back of Will Smith slap!

Lol, What a just punishment for a career of lazy jokes at peoples expense…..becoming defined by a a heap of jokes at your expense.

      • A comedian being defined by a heap of jokes?

        • -1

Being the butt of those jokes though.

  • +1

Saw him last time he came to Melbourne, I nearly walked out (he was so bad)

    • +9

What's that thing when you nearly do something? You don't

    • Did you wish you should have done what Will Smith did on that day?

      • anyone other than will smith would've ended up with a criminal record.

  • +11

I cancelled my ticket. Getting enough laughs here.

  • -1

Watch him on youtube should show you how garbage he is.

    • I was shown “How not to get your ass kicked by the police” which is pretty hilarious imo. Haven’t watched any other of his videos

  • +2

You'd have to pay me to see him.

  • Came here for the comments and was not disappointed!

    Will Will Smith be attending?

Keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth.

    • Unless you are complimenting her on her luxurious tresses

      • Was your username "Chicken Kiev" before Putin's "special military operation"?

  • Chris' take on Rich Vs Wealth was absolute genius

  • I'd rather go to jail

  • +2

Disagree that he put on a good show when he was last here.

It was driven by Rock wanting to make money following his divorce. Nothing wrong with that as such but, man, it was a drag. He no longer has the energy, there’s no originality and it was just lame overall.

Each to their own but I still relish Bill Burr’s gig in Melbourne back in - sigh - 2014…

    • +2

Each to their own. Will be my first time watching live comedy. I loved Tamborine on Netflix.

Is the Bill Burr back then still the same as now? Couldn't continue watching him on Netflix.

      • +2

His recent WNBA rant, part of his new special, is already proving legendary.

    • +1

The subject matter was heavily influenced by that divorce and hopefully it doesn't reappear, I still enjoyed it. As they say, a hungry comic on the cusp is much better than a comfortable comic on the way out.

    • Burr's latest special on Netflix showed huge growth compared to 5 years ago

      • Burr was 36 vs Rock at 22 when they each got their breaks so I don't feel it's comparable but valid nonetheless.

Also, sometimes I feel Netflix/streaming is diluting comedy a bit due to the sheer volume and decision making. With one hand they cancel Norm MacDonald's show and with the other they support Dave Chappelle as an example.

I'll check out more of Burr. Just checking, been in so much stuff I've seen but never put it all together. Let me know a good starting point besides the Chappelle show if you can.

        • +1

          Breaking Bad, haha.
          Or the Mandalorian…

In all seriousness, just watch Paper Tiger (Netflix). He was in the UK for that one.

    • I relished seeing Dave Chappelle in Sydney back in 2014.

Openly smoking at a non-smoking venue. Effortlessly talking shit and making it sound like the only reason he bothered to put on shows in Sydney was because he didn't want to go back home to his wife at the time.

      • I'm just glad he toured. I broke my elbow the night before and was told by the hospital I wouldn't be let out in time for the show. I let myself out. Unfortunately couldn't make the second show due to pain.

I had friends say they didn't enjoy it due to the lackadaisical nature. I thought it was awesome as per your remarks. He went through two packs, never seen anyone around that time chain smoke like that and still haven't.

        • Part of Dave's appeal is mixing his storytelling ability with serious topics.

The thing is though is that a lot of Dave's experiences with being black in America don't fly with us because most Australians can't relate.

What I loved about his set was that again, he was effortless when he tied jokes together.

          • @tallkid123: And then returns to where it all started when he finished, it was brilliant.

Agreed, master, top 3 and he isn't 2 or 3.

Comparable to Jimeoin doing stand up at the Apollo.

Thanks OP, booked in for next week. Tickets weren't that expensive overall.

If Rock is shit, oh well. My wife would've forced me to go see Uncle Roger earlier this year had I not gotten covid a few days before.

Free tickets to GI Jane with every purchase

That booking fee is a real slap in the face

  • I'm thinking of attending dressed as the fresh prince, however, I'm unsure of the rules regarding this?..

I watched his latest show on Netflix. Wasn't great. Save the money and watch it when it comes out on Netflix?

    • Watched it and loved it. Hehe.

  • Username checks out….

  • +2

79 bucks feels like a huge slap in the face.

    • +1

The booking fee is the real slap in the face.

  • This show slaps

  • Just for a laugh I bought some tickets…
But, as a typical overweight OzBargainer who don't usually leave the house, I'm not used these customs… they emailed me to say my mobile phone, smart watch, camera etc. "will be secured in YONDR® pouches, and anyone caught with a mobile phone in the venue will be immediately ejected"!
Is this a normal experience for public entertainment these days?
I might stay at home some more in future.
    Boo!

    • +2

Maybe you can strongly object to it?

"KEEP MY MOBILE PHONE OUT OF YOUR (profanity) POUCH!"

      • Oh yes that will work, thanks!

    • This is normal and I think it's cos of Netflix special something.
You will still have your phone with you all the time but can only unlock to use it in the lobby.

  • +3

I got in one little fight and my Mom got scared,
And said "you can't slap Chris Rock because your wife has no hair".

  • Finally! Oh yes!
Only 2 stand-up comedians out there. Dave Chapelle and Chris Rock.
The rest are just catching up.

    Thanks OP.

    • You really need to get out more

      • +1

Coming from the Netflix hero. I hear you. Smh

  • wasn't this guy in that movie Grown ups?

    • You are thinking of Grown Ups 2 or Pootie Tang

  • how long does this show run for?

Is there an age limit (15 or 18+)?

    • Likely 1-1.5 hours. No age limit

    • The calender invite I got was for actually 2 hours

  • Wish I could upvote this twice. Chris is that good.

  • Has anyone else just not received the physical tickets, promised to come by snail mail, for the Melbourne show tomorrow?

  • Anyone been to the show? Any good?

  • Just wanted to comment on the entry to the Sydney show.
Organisers locked your phone in a pouch before they scanned your tickets so about half the audience had to queue up to reprint the ticket.
They then decided to let everyone in with a pouch because the queues were so long and was delaying the start time.
Problem was most people didn't remember their seat numbers so had queue again to a designated "phone safe to use area" to view the seat location

To be fair though they did email the day on the day to print the tickets but really, just scan tickets first then lock the phone…

Other than that the show and opener was good, would recommend.

  • +1

Just here to say thanks to the OP.
Show was lit and a fantastic highlight for the year so far, moreso that my date for the night totally enjoyed it.
Entrance to the venue was quick, phones locked in the pouch and unlocked immediately afterwards. A very positive evening.

    • I thoroughly enjoyed it. Like a fridge, hope you closed. Way better than his last show here. Look forward to the rewatch on Netflix.
