Chris Rock - Live - $79 + $5.95 Booking Fee (9-20 August, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide) @ Lasttix

1230

Got this email this morning. Saw him in Melbourne 5 years ago and it was a good show, in fact it was excellent.

You have to lock your phones away with those cases as likely recorded as a Netflix special. Watch that to see if you would like it if unfamiliar with his work. I think it's about a $52.75 saving based on shows that aren't offering the discount.

GC - 9/8 - Tuesday
MEL -11/8 - Thursday
SYD- 13/8 - Saturday
ADL - 17/8 - Thursday
BNE - 20/8 - Saturday

I'd fire his travel planner. Should have started in Adelaide and gone around and up to Brisbane unless he's getting buckwild in Sydney for the weekend, which he likely is.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2022.

I knew him when he was Chris Pebble

    • +56

      Are you stoned?

        • +52

I think the people here take you for granite, JV.

        • You are getting old. You must have a rock in your head.
          Just kidding.

    • I knew him before he got slapped…

  • +13

If he's not going to talk about Will Smith then what's the point.

    • +116

      Maybe he Will ?

      • +5

        Will Smith or Won’t Smith?

      • +1

He might need a Will to handover all the jokes after all this.

    • +14

He might allude to it without being too obvious, he's quite the wordsmith.

      • +16

If he's funny the show will open with the G.I. JANE theme song

  • +35

for $79.95 do you get to slap him?

    • No but you can during the meet and greet when you pay VIP

    • +13

Not surprised people want to slap him — Everybody Hates Chris.

    • If any joke offends you apparently it's fine to.

    • apparently it's free

  • +70

Why did Will Smith smack Chris Rock with an open hand?
    Because paper always beats rock.

    • +16

Huh, i thought it was cos will smith was a little bitch.

    • +3

Mrs Smith must be the scissors?

      • +2

        only in bed though

      • +7

Keep jada's name out of your mouth!

  • Will Smith be making a cameo?

  • +1

Can you elaborate on "You have to lock your phones away with those cases" ?

    • +6

      yondr pouches

you put your phone in a pouch, and take the pouch with you. when you leave the venue they unlock it.

      • +1

So if the significant other calls with an emergency, too bad?

        • +5

Yes, that's a risk you accept. I believe they boot you out if you are seen with one not in the bag whilst the show is on.

        • +26

Remember the old days before mobile phones? Pretend it's that.

          Or…..date night!

          • @krushgroove: I remember the days when having a mobile didn't necessarily mean you took it everywhere with you - you'd only carry it with you if you were expecting to use it.

            • @Mondorock: it is still those days…. we are now just ALWAYS expecting to use it!

          • +8

@watwatwat: It’s okay, we have bullet control in this country.

          • -2

@watwatwat: I see downvotes for some reason. I was referring to the fact it would be difficult for people to call emergency services or their loved ones if there was a shooter or if there was a fire, as their phones will be locked.

        • +4

          Can't survive 2 hours?

        • -1

So if the significant other calls with an emergency, too bad?

You and me will never be friends…

        • There is 000

        • What's the emergency ?
          Call 000

      • +10

How are you supposed to check Ozbargain?!

      • +1

Was actually having a discussion with a mate of mine and he was telling me that he attended an event pre-covid where the use of these were mandated, but you didn't get to hang onto the device, then they made you surrender it, within the pouch prior to entry into the event. I was amazed when he told me that one.

      • We went to a restaurant and they locked my phone up in a wooden box. The joke was my watch was still connected to it so I could’ve answered a call anyway. The phone would, also, act as a hotspot for my iPad at that distance. They, probably, should’ve insisted I put it into airplane or theatre mode. I wasn’t clued in enough to think of it myself.

        • was it a fancy restaurant?

i feel if they're going that far to lock up everyone's phones, they need to include all "smart" devices as well, including watches, tablets and laptops.

          • @tdw: It was pretty fancy. I just thought it was funny how pointless the exercise turned out to be because they didn’t get me to put it in airplane mode.

            • @try2bhelpful: sound concept but poorly-thought out execution. would've been funny if someone kept trying to call you the entire time and annoyed them with that continually vibrating box lol

      • Couldn't you just put a dummy phone (any old nokia 3310 lying around at home) into the pouch, and have real phone in your pockets?

        • +1

Your can also just lie and say you left it at home.

Then when you pull out the real phone, security/waiter kicks you out.

If you are on-call or something that requires a phone, you can ask and they may sit you far in the back corner and ask you leave it in silent mode (that's what my local fancy restaurant does.)

    • +3

I've only been to a few events in my lifetime that enforce it. From memory it was pretty strict security going in 2017. Full pat down etc. Probably be similar with the Dave Chappelle incident recently. Bring a second phone/Go Pro if you want to take a picture. It's pretty obvious though as no one has their phone and security are looking for it. Don't believe you get a second chance.

      • i love that an LPL video turns up in post not even to do with locks

    • +1

I mean if you wanted to just record audio there are much smaller devices you can use that isn't a mobile phone.

  • +1

    I hear it'll be a knockout!

  • +3

I love his new stuff, it just hits different, the shit Slaps!

  • Does it include slaps?

  • +1

Perhaps his travel planner did plan a logical sequence, but this is the (current) itinerary after all the flight cancellations / delays / re-bookings / etc.

  • August 20th is a Saturday

    • +2

      So is August 13th.

Not sure what happened with OPs calendar but it needs to be checked out.

    • Cheers lads. Don't think I used one, likely the problem.

      • +24

Who uses calendars? They are for the week.

  • +2

Opening joke. What did the five fingers say to the face?

  • 20 years down the road, we will still hear about that goddamn joke

  • +2

    Would rather see Aaron Gocs

    • +1

Gocsy! Watch him at 5-8 on the weekends for free

  • +5

Oh boy oh boy can't wait to get in here and make the first slap joke………ah….damnit.

  • +1

    More slapstick comedy?

  • +1

Wasn't his show sooo bad last time people were walking out?! Im surprised his coming back!

    • +2

I was there. It was absolutely awful. No wonder he made us put our phones in the security pouches.

Couldn't pay me to go again.

    • +1

The show I saw in Melbourne he opened with putting Australia on blast for colonisation that may have upset a few boomers or whoever decided to be offended (notable gasps in the audience). I've seen a lot of comedy in my life and rated it easily an A. Watch Tamborine on Netflix and make your own mind up as it was 70% the same. Although the Netflix version does omit the colonisation bit.

      • and rated it easily an A.

        that doesnt mean much….

      • +2

he opened with putting Australia on blast for colonisation

        Lol so funny…

that may have upset a few boomers or whoever decided to be offended

Either they were offended or most people don't find poorly thought-out political activism funny. The fact that he has to sell tickets at a discount will tell you which is closer to the truth. I'm pretty sure Kevin Hart doesn't have to do that.

        • My main issue was him using the audience as his psychologist. He went on and on about his infidelity (not in a joking way). It was saddening and pretty pathetic.

          • +1

@That Guy: He's a dick. Honestly, violence might not be the answer, but he was and often is out of line and barely funny. IMHO anyway.

        • +1

I think you have to factor in the USD and the justification to fly here cost regarding the initial price and the subsequent drop. He will still turn a profit and then is going onto Europe so he's making bank. Looking at Pittsburgh they start at $50 USD and finish up about $150 USD, so similar.

I enjoyed it last time, so going again.
