  • Has anyone used these for Doordash?

    • If not, then you can buy DoorDash GC's on Shopback with these GC's & get up to 7% cashback as well.

  • Literally $25 off max per flybuys account if buying 5 x $100 cards. This is much worse than the 10% off deal.

    • +4

True, but can you still get 10% deal ?

    • Good for a top up

  • -8

Terrible deal…. each to their own though.

    • +1

This deal has many uses including meeting the spend for a credit card signup.

  • can I use coles gift card to buy these ?

    • Depends on what sort of GC. See in comments above and the previous similar deal linked above.

    • No you can’t. I have tested it using the Coles gift card on the previous 10% Coles MasterCard promo (this gift card in general allows you to purchase other types gift cards like Ultimate/TCN etc). It gave me an error at self-service checkout

I would guess the Coles Groceries gift card will be the same error too

    • The rumour is a very small amount of Coles had their checkouts patched to prevent this. I have not personally run into any in the 20~ish stores I usually go but YMMV. I would say not really a concern if you have a car and can drive around.

      • A number of stores in my area have their self checkouts return an error message if I am purchasing a gift card in the transaction and I select Gift Card on the payment screen.

I actually distinctly remember triggering an error message at a Coles self checkout when I tried to purchase a Google Play gift card using a Coles gift card in 2016.

        • Invalid product mix on the POS? That seems to be Coles/Kmart way of saying I don't like this card.

          • @truetypezk: No.

The errors I'm referring to are errors generated by the POS system software itself. At my local stores, if you scan any gift card at a self checkout, go to the payment screen and then choose Gift Card as the payment method, the payment screen will show a message saying something along the lines of Gift cards cannot be used as a payment method for gift cards. You'll need to get a staff member to clear the message, and you may even get a bonus lecture from the staff member reiterating what the checkout says!

            • +1

@WookieMonster: Huh that message seems to be really specific. I havent seen it anywhere myself in Melbourne. When I try to use fb$ to buy gc in Coles and buy a group gc with a store gc in Coles and Kmart, the POS just says invalid product mix. It came up really fast and made me feel that message/logic is processed locally without even going to their back end servers.

  • Nice time for the Credit card spending requirement.

  • +1

Can these cards be added to my Google Pay Wallet ?

    • Interested to know whether they can be added to Appe wallet too

      • +1

Tried last time and the cards couldn't be added to the Apple Wallet.

  • +3

Another pro tip: Buy the Coles MasterCard from this promo to get the bonus 2k Flybuys points and head to Woolies to buy the Ultimate gift cards for another 20x Everyday Rewards pts

Accumulate those Ultimate cards for upcoming Fathers Day deals

  • +2

Such a small amount, not worth the headache. Time wasted just looking into the T&Cs, potential points issues is enough for a pass.

    • +1

Some people will jump through a million hoops and spend half their day to save $5.

      • +3

It's also fun (if you're into these kind of things).

I get a warm inner glow & feeling of satisfaction from hacking the system & stacking discounts.

      • +3

It is much more than $5/$100 if you look around and combine other promos available at the moment. Easily 20%+ profits and this card is just the final touch to get your money back into a generic card that can be used pretty much anywhere. I would rather buy the $250 ones to save a bit of hassles despite of smaller discounts.

    • +1

Yeah a lot of fannying about for sod all. Could work X minutes more instead lol.. happens so often like spending half an hour trying to get another free burrito hack going.

    • Don’t get me wrong, love a bargain and “hacking” these deals but my point was, for the average person, you could probably save more elsewhere with half the effort/risk/fuss/head scratching. Google and Apple Cards are simple no fuss “free money” if you're using Google wallet and Apple Pay whereas things can get murky with these credit cards pretty quickly.

I personally also noticed some issues with Coles on some promos recently and given how long I had to be on the phone with them to just get an online order sorted I can’t imagine how difficult getting flybys issues sorted could be (I know flybys is separate but it would still involve Coles) so not worth it for me personally.

But, if this slots into your system and you can make it worthwhile well done and more power to you!

      • How do you get money off a Google or apple gift card?

        • Don’t think you can hence my quotation marks. I should have been clearer; you can use them to pay for YouTube, Apple insurance, subscriptions etc instead of credit cards.

  • Can these Coles mastercard used to buy the wws giftcard with additional 5% more value?

    • yes

    • +2

      1) You buy the Coles GC with hiver card to get 5% extra cashback on top of the flybuys points
      2) then you go and buy the WW GCs with this
      3) You make sure that you have a free WW sim to get 10% discount on top of WW shopping

Let me know what I missed.

      • How do you get the free WW sim?

        • +2

Usually free after cashback, not upfront free. One off purchase without recharge gets you up to 6 times monthly shopping benefits.

The deal may be repeated any time on/before 16th if you are keen to score one.

      • Do you get 10% off gift cards in your monthly WW shop too?

        • No. Gift cards and further WW mobile purchases are not discounted in your 10% off shop.

      • I thought the 10% discount didn't include GCs?

  • -2

Just hided one under toilet paper in a nearby coles

    • +2

      Hided?

      • If the past tense of "to bide" is "bided" then there is actually no logical reason why the past tense of "to hide" shouldn't be hided.

    • +2

That's ok, people raiding the toilet paper will gladly take the GCs too.

  • The stack of 100s at my local that was there this morning has now disappeared. I really dislike people who hide them.

    • +2

Most likely behind the cigarette counter.

  • How long it will take to activate?

    • 4 Hours

    • I think it’s basically instantly.

I bought two this morning. The balance was available on both when I checked 25 minutes after I purchased them, and I was able to redeem all the funds on both cards a minute later.

I think the four hour rule of thumb from the previous Coles Mastercard gift card was an artificial limitation introduced to stop people from purchasing discounted Coles Mastercard gift cards, then immediately going back to the same store to purchase more discounted Coles Mastercard gift cards a few minutes later.

      • Have they changed to instant now? Last time with the 10% promo, it was exactly 4h.

        • Yep, looks like it.

There is nothing stopping InComm (the gift card product owner) from reintroducing the four hour delay (or introducing an even longer delay) in the future.

      • Where do you check the balance? confusing when you go to colesmastercardbalance.com.au

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Great. Thank you so much. Was worried that site wasn't Coles branded…but it worked OK. Confusing why they just don't list that address instead of the other one….Much appreciated. :)

            • @eddieboy2: The redirect website (colesmastercardbalance.com.au) hasn’t worked for me since the 10% off Coles Mastercard gift card deal, so I’m not sure what’s going on there.

I suspect Coles does not have their branding on the mybalancenow website, because InComm (the product owner) does not let them use the Coles logo on the website, particularly since that website could be used in future to host multiple prepaid Visa or Mastercard gift cards. (I mean, the US version of the website hosts multiple different gift cards owned by InComm, but features a lot of different brands.)

    • In the past, I checked out first one, then immediately scratched and used that card to purchase another one.
      (That was with 10% discount.)

    • mine was instant

  • For those people who plan to use their Hiver card to purchase these Coles Mastercard Gift Card, considering Hive updated T & C how do you put through $525 for 5 cards in 1 transaction using Google wallet when daily limit is $500? Anyway to get around this?

I know people received cash back for those transactions routed through eftpos for the month of July. Also I know it will work by inserting the card at Coles, but it would be an eftpos transaction. Happy to be wrong.

    • Buy in 2 batches and add card to apple pay?

      • My Coles doesn't allow it since last deal. All 5 cards have to be scanned in 1 transaction.

        • Another made up rule. There have been many.

    • +1

I insert the card and select 'Visa Debit' option. Don't think it is Eftpos

      • I am not sure if inserting card then select debit qualify for cash back. If it is eligible I will just insert card next time.

I thought Hiver's updated T&C says only payments via Digital Wallet, online payment and Visa Pay Wave are eligible for cash backs.

So I planed to get 4 cards but didn't get any. Sold out. I wanted to go during lunch break, but couldn't get away. Went after 2pm and all $100 cards are gone. There are $250 ones but I didn't buy.

        • When the t&c were updated? I had my cash back ealry August for purchase in July. Never used tap.

          • @jimwh: I read it on the other thread. I think it was July. Obviously they didn't implement the rules for the month of July. Or I am guessing now that they were not that technical. I emailed them 2 days asking about Visa Pay Wave and eftpos transactions. The replies just emphasize on MCCs. It seems to me as long as MCC is within eligible categories then cash back should work. But I am only guessing.

            • +1

@bbking18: I spoke to Hiver on their chat this morning. Pay wave transactions are limited to $200 each and max $500 per day. To spend any more you need to insert card and use PIN. If you insert the card and select 'Credit' the cashback will be applied as it is routed through the Visa network.
You must insert the card for the whole transaction (so you're not combining the transaction by tapping for $500 and inserting for the rest). Using this method they say there is no limit, other than the funds in your account, however during the last Coles Mastercard deal I could not go over $1,000.

              • @Yola: Thank you, Yola. This sounds right to me. I will insert next time for amount over $200 although I am surprised to learn that there is also an limit of $200 each.

As for the insert the card for the whole transaction, how does system recognize it is one transaction, not two? I am thinking of split payments, it would have shown 2 amounts on transaction list if I pay $110 twice? Am I missing something or system recognize receipt number, which means they have to look into it for details?

                • @bbking18: Sorry, cannot help I am just passing on what they said. I am not interested in splitting so did not ask for clarification on that point.

                  • +1

@Yola: Thanks for passing on the info. It is useful. I am just a bit curious. There is no need to split payments if it works by inserting the card. My local Coles might have a new rule that no split payments. :(

                    • @bbking18: If you have any problems get back to me I took pc's of the conversation and the operator said she was checking with her supervisor.

                      • +1

@Yola: Ok, thanks, Yola. Since I couldn't get any $100 gift cards I haven't spent over $200 in one transaction so far on my Hiver card apart from using it to pay AGL bills online.

  • +1

Visited my local Coles early today and as I expected, all the cards were already gone (either hidden or sold).

Even the 5 card limit & the 5% discount is way too much, unless Coles is willing to significantly increase the amount of stock they supply to their supermarkets.

If they don't want to supply more cards, then they should limit it to 1 or 2 cards max per Flybuys account.

    • +7

"Specials are there to get people to come in to the shop, not to sell what's on special" my old boss used to say.

    • i found the same, all sold out

    • Manager at my local Coles said they didn't know there was promo going on this week. Hence they were not prepared otherwise they would have ordered more. They only found out this morning when people came to buy these cards. They haven't got deliveries lately. So not many which sold out quickly. I definitely saw some last night when I went to Coles to pick up milk and bread. But didn't pay attention to see how many.

She said she had put order in but wouldn't be here in time. And I didn't bother to drive around.

      • You would think stores would be advised. I worked in HO buying in Coles and catalog items were ordered for stores and delivered to them ahead of time.

        • +1

Yesterday manager said usually they would get told, but not always. This promo they had no idea. My local Coles is one of those big hubs (I am in Brisbane at the moment) and they did have more stocks than others. They put out so many cards during last promo and still sold all $250 cards in 2 days and $100 ones lasted till following Monday. Manager said they were prepared last time.

          • @bbking18: My usual Coles is Tooronga Rd in Melbourne and it is next to their National HO. I often see Managers showing it off to visitors. It does also usually have more stock but last Friday and the Friday before that already it had no $100 or $250 cards.

Eastgardens, as well as the Tooronga store in Melbourne, is squarely Format A. Up to 200 other Coles could convert to this too. Coles has described Format A as “a premium, foodie and convenience offer with extended range” aimed at a “mid to high affluence” shoppers and for stores with high numbers of customers.

            • @Yola: Interesting reading. I don't like shopping. To me, I make supermarket shoppings as efficient as I can. But I think I might start to like shopping at supermarkets if they are like Warrickville Woolworth metro or Eastgardens, Tooronga Road Coles. I have to say lighting does make a lot of difference to shopping experiences. My local woollie is relatively new, nothing fancy but with bright lighting and shinny fridge and freezers it makes me going there more often than Coles.

              • @bbking18: I have been doing most of mine as C&C since Covid started though you miss out on the markdowns that way. So now going to Tooronga is an outing. They have a barista and a sushi stand and certainly bright lights.

                • +1

@Yola: Once I am back to Melbourne I will go there have a look, at least I can have a cup of coffee and some sushi for lunch. :)

  • Not sure if mentioned in the comments, you canot pull raw cash out from an ATM with this, how ever you can link it to a paypal account and transfer.

    • And pay the credit transaction fee (like cash advance)?

      • +3

And risk your account being suspended/closed by Paypal and funds held for 180 days :) All the thrills thrown in for free!

        • Start the car!

  • Lots of $100 cards left in Coles Dianella WA.

  • +4

A lot of people saying it isn't worth it. $25 profit on an outlay of $525 still beats any profit you would make on bank interest in a whole year. Plus obviously the $25 is tax free. If you're shopping at Coles anyway I can't see the problem.

    • From the previous promo pattern, it'll be 10% off in about 2 months.

      • +2

I hope so. I'll be buying whatever I can on that one too👌👌👌

        • Buy low now and buy high for 10% off.

          • @Neoika: If we can get any. Too hard to get many when 10% off is on. Various coles around us introduced a lot of new rules. They just made them up along the way. Nowadays all staff talked to each other constantly. I got told once that I couldn't buy more than 5 cards a day, but I was only there the first time. One staff insisted on she saw me that Wed morning but I was at work. Manager was called over who sold me 5 cards.

      • I doubt it :)

        • 10% off in OCT, bonus pts in DEC most likely.

  • +1

Went to Coles Knox where they have two Coles in the one shopping centre. Neither store had any stock.

    • Did you check with service desk?
