My local KFC is notoriously crap for giving all the wing pieces in a bucket.

it doesnt say you can't. from memory it just says you have to do it within 5 days and spend over 5$, also not sure how it'd work with this deal as it's app only.
but worth asking as most kfc staff probs won't care, when the receipt thing first started I ordered 6 wings and asked about it, they redeemed the receipt without me buying anything else lol.
just to clarify, I mean buy the freeze, get the receipt, then do the survey for the code, then redeem the code as you order your meal. (incase of any confusion)

Last time this deal was on, my local store kept giving me 4 or 5 drumsticks per order. How do I avoid this?

My local can be dodgy sometimes too. As someone who once worked there, 9 pieces is one full chicken and as per their packing guide. You should be getting 2 legs, 2 wings, 2 thighs, 2 ribs and 1 keel (the lump of breast)

True but you also have to consider the Houston chicken as well, so its impossible to do the full chicken on occasion. Likely why OP got a lot of drums.

You used to be able to pay when you get to the store after ordering through the app, but they took this option away a year or two ago. Now need to pre-pay via CC, Apple Pay (presumably Google as well), or Paypal. I've been burnt a few times by my store being out of what I ordered. Refunds take some time to go through.

They've run out in multiple places before both in Australia and overseas. My favourite response was from UK KFC
They certainly can. I usually order Hot & Spicy (thankfully a standard menu item in WA) - I've had to settle for regular a couple of times (which has also been out of stock once). The store has also been out of tenders and nuggets in the past.
I’m going to deliberately order 100 pieces just to piss off the other customers in line.

Apparently hot N spicy sells well as a special item but not well as a regular item (1/5 of Original Recipe).
I forgot my source. I think an employee said it on Reddit.@Fobsessive: Don't know about your local store but the KFC stores around me in Sydney are so busy when hot and spicy is available. People are generally buying H&S and when it's no longer available I have noticed the stores are a lot quieter. I've heard the reason why its not around all year (only available all year at a few stores in Australia) is due to the preparation that's involved compared to original chicken. The preparation for H&S is longer. My theory is that H&S tastes better than original and KFC can't have H&S outperforming their original recipe chicken so this is why its only on for a limited time plus the added time it takes to prep H&S.
@mastermik3y: It was me that mentioned the 1:5 thing a few months ago, it is because hot and spicy doesn't do well as a permanent menu item, only as a promo item.
Hot and Spicy doesn't really take any longer to prep, though we can only cook 36 pieces at a time vs 72 for Original. (Though we pretty much never cook 36 pieces, usually only when this Tuesday deal is running)
We've been open for around 3 hours and we have sold 4x more Original than Hot and Spicy, so a little better than the 1:5 it sometimes is but not by much.
@Fobsessive: strange in QLD it's all year round and most people get that over original (preference unverified lol)
@Poor Ass: Same in NSW when it's available… well the stores around me anyway. Noticed there's always a wait time for hot and spicy but in the heating area there's always plenty of original chicken. I guess it all depends on the area.

Which stores? Name and shame! I have no issues at the drive through at my local (Clayfield QLD) - at the speaker i tell them i have an app order and have done the survey. Easy.
My local always "forgets" despite putting the code in. They also say to me "the chips is in the bag" whilst at the drive thru window, to get me going.
Yeah I always ask them at the 2nd window if they chips are in there. 80% of the time they forget.
