  • Who thought it was a good idea to label a 4K tv as QUHD??

    • +10

Marketing flogs. They thought it sounded QUOOL

      • Haha love it

    • +3

It's obvious, Quad Ultra High Definition, where Ultra High Definition is 4K 2160x3840, So it's 4x the number of pixels, 8K 4320x7680.

      oh wait.

    • I think the Q is for Quantum Dot LED, which would put it in a league above other UHD LED TVs but still a league below OLED

  • Terrible brand. The worst customer experience and an operating system that crashed 3 months into the experience.

Avoid TCL. Live is too short to put up with this rubbish at any price point.

    • I got mine for free. So there's that.

    • TCL is cheap and their other options make for a good secondary TV.
I wouldn't be spending $800 on a TCL TV though no matter how good it is.

Have a C725 75". It's perfect including the software (Google TV), even recently got an update which I didn't expect considering the ridicule this brand attracts.

Their support is next level terrible hah. I had a query about the compatibility of their NXTWEAR glasses and their 20 pro phone. They initially thought I was talking about google glass, told me they connect via bluetooth so compatible with everything - I re-sent them the link to their own product, was told it's TCL so it must be compatible - explained i'd read that it isn't compatible with all models, wanted to know if this model was - was told i'd need to speak with the NXTWEAR support - I again, re-sent them the link and pointed out that clicking support on that page was how I got to them and asked how I get to the NXTWEAR support team, to which they then realised, they were the NXTWEAR support team - after that I got no further replies and still don't know if they are compatible 🤣

The phone has been great though!

Wow, I actually bought one of these today.

The folks 8 year old LG packed it in yesterday, and I spent last night searching the net for any good 65" deals that didn't cost the earth. Wasn't much on sale though, and contemplated an Eko or JVC from Big W for them (there TV needs aren't great).

Jumped on fleabay and did a search, and this advert came up. They also had a couple of other ads for the same TV at slightly cheaper.

Anyway rang this morning to confirm availability and if a cheaper deal was to be had walking in and purchasing - which suprisingly their wasn't. They stated TV's had been used a couple of days at the GP and then repacked.

Was a bit skeptical, but ordered it - $741 (down from $780) with what ebay discount code was available to me and grabbed it at lunch time. Set it up this evening.
Box was a bit beat up and was missing instructions, warranty card, quick start guide and batteries, but had a new remote (the newer TCL RC902V model) and all the plastic protection film was on the screen and legs were still sealed in plastic.

This unit was actually running Google TV, instead of Android. Seems to be working fine, no issues with picking up all the TV stations, running apps and YouTubing. Fast power on and CEC works with their LG soundbar.

Just noticed earlier another seller on eBay (in Dandenong also) is selling the same TV as new for $849, or $807.45 with a 5% discount code that should be available. Not sure if this would be running Android or Google TV though?

Anyway long winded post - but TV seems to work ok. I have 4 TCL's at home and they have been fine for the last 3 years. Hope this helps someone.

    • Google TV is Android TV

The Google launcher looks like that now.

  • Buying a second-hand TV labeled as new, from a seller in Dandenong. What could go wrong?

I have been using a non smartTV TCL 38". It was dead close to the end of the third year warranty. Called the tech support, then, they just asked me a proof of purchase. Lucky, I still have a copy of the online invoice. Then, they scheduled someone to come. Long story short, a guy came, checked the TV, replaced the motherboard. Voila! Good as new.

I just think the tech support was a top-notch.

I'm still using it until today. I think it has been 6 years now.

  • I absolutely hate my TCL Android TV (55C2US). The instant on is broken and it takes 30-40seconds for the thing to boot up… When the instant on works, I have no audio and need to reboot it.. Terrible tv and terrible customer support.

  • Thanks OP! Got this as a second tv yesterday for $720. No dramas so far, easy transaction, came with all the manuals, warranty card etc. looked absolutely brand new, even the box so don't see a reason to complain, yet. Lets see how we go. Andd…can confirm its a Google TV, pretty smooth UI and quick channel switches as well.

  • The price has gone down to $750 C&C. $637 with AFPAYDAY code.

  • TCL's website doesn't state the Hz but says that the HDMI 2.1 and 100CMR is compatible with the latest gaming consoles.

  • After 12 hours of me pointing out that this deal post had gotten better, the post wasn't updated so I created a new one
