I get the feeling that's a result of the current economic climate and ongoing chip shortage. Plus, the Z3s were still in the popular-but-volatile market stage, but now they have had an apparently 3-fold (hah) increase in sales of the Z3s over the Z2s, so they probably consider the market established and not requiring hundreds and hundreds of dollars of enticement to get people to buy the new one.
Wait some time. They just want to see how many people but with this sort of trade in bonus. And they will increase the bonus after 2-3 months probably in November to sell more.
For me, I won't be buying as of now. Let's feel the real world reviews first.
Underwhelming device, underwhelming bonus.
I reckon the next couple of cycles are going to be pretty full of underwhelming devices, just because of the current state of the world. Any device that makes a huge leap forward is basically going to in extreme limited supply because of the chip shortage.
I think if you really want something that's a huge innovation, you'll have to stop looking at flagships and start looking at the mid-range, especially the stuff coming out of the Chinese firms like OPPO .

Like most phones it's now incremental updates and improvements.
Would wait for $500 bonus trade in.
If you already have the Flip 3, it doesn't look worthwhile upgrading to the Flip 4 unless you need a slightly larger battery and faster charging. Cameras are the same, screens are the same. Faster CPU (same ram), one level up on gorilla glass for the main display.

It should still be better than it is for the price they're asking but the camera jump from the Flip 3 to 4 is quite significant.
The Flip 3 had the same sensor as the Note7 all the way back in 2016, while at least the Flip 4 has the same sensors as the S21 series of last year.
I'd also say a battery jump from 3,400 to 3,700 mAh is pretty decent given battery life was the biggest complaint of the Flip 3. Might give you an extra 2 hours which could be the difference between having to top up through the day to just charging overnight.
Overall would've liked a 4k cell and 2022 flagship camera sensors but phones, even foldables, have matured so much that unfortunately most changes will be incremental.
It’s weird I have a Zflip3 and an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Honestly the iPhone takes better photos but the Samsung takes great shots in most practical situations, photos with lots of light, photos of nighttime with some lighting that pops etc… iPhone takes it up a level by having a better zoom quality and can take photos in almost pitch black, but honestly, none of my shots needs this feature
I took a few shots at the same time with an old iPhone X and the flip3 and the flips kills it… by a lot.

Does the Bespoke/custom colour flip4 only come in the 256gb variant? Or are the other options just sold out? 128 and 512 are greyed out and can't be selected for Bespoke on the consumer site..
Edit: nevermind, just googled it and Tom's Guide confirms that it's only avail in the 256gb variant.
