  • Thoughts on this as a laptop for a grade 11-12 using for blender, illustrator, unity and a few games?

Wow, fantastic price, Nitro 5 look out, easy to recommend being a lenovo.

this has a 3050 (looks like 90 W, which is at least a plus point https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-3/ide…) while nitro has a 3060 which is performing almost similar to a desktop 3060 with 130 W patch

      • im confused why 3050 is a plus, if nitro is better with 3060 ?

        • i mean 90 W 3050 is a plus point than a 35 W 3050 as in most Lenovo laptops, bad wording :D

      • My partner has a Nitro 5, although you get the 3060, I would probably trade that bit of extra power for the assumedly better build quality of the Lenovo. Guess it all depends on priorities though, raw power Nitro still wins for sure.

Is this the nitro 3060 you talking about?

Seems to be in discount, you can patch this to 130W? Originally, this is only 95W right?

omg! is it $1098 now ? :( I got similar one from a previous deal for $1298 :/ My exact model number is "AN515-57-54QC"
I patched 130 W VBIOS by following this thread. Originally came with 95 W VBIOS.
I don't play games with this but did some ML training when my desktop RTX3060 is training another model, performance was quite similar for my particular model.

There are couple of variations of this laptop, mine doesn't have TB4 but @JimmyLmao's "AN515-57-54ZA" got TB4 as per review thread

          • @bazingaa: It's a bit silly to come with only 8gb of ram though.

    • I've never had their consumer devices, but their work devices are great. I'm still using a ThinkPad X1 Carbon second gen. It's 10 years old and still chugs along. Not as blazing fast as it once was, but it's still very much usable.

  • Is this a decent laptop for the money? Probably won't be playing a huge amount of games. Will be watching a lot of movies on it though.

    • I think the price drop looks good, but from what I've read, the short battery life, heat and fan noise may not be appealing. It also doesn't appear to support USB type C power delivery (please correct me if I'm wrong).

It's alright if you need something right away, but there are better deals out there if you can wait. I recall the Acer Nitro 5 with a 3060 was the same price with 100 HN giftcard not long ago.
Edit, nitro 5 is currently 100 cheaper than this as per comment above, it's a better purchase imo
