Hasn't the BX series always used QLC? As well as not having a Dram cache.
BX100 had DRAM. Most BX series SSDs used TLC except inferior grade.
Pros
* Strong sequential burst performance
* Low cost
* Supporting software
Cons
* Lower than average application performance
* Low endurance
* Low sustained write performance

i was just thinking how great these things are compared to modern nvme drives
i have had one since they released and had zero problems and i just did a test to see how fast they transfer files and was getting 470mb/s for the entire 100gb of movie files
did the same thing on my nvme wd blue and it slowed down to 300mb/s after about 3gb
the reason i did this test recently is to see what would be a good cache drive for unraid as most affordable drives now are qlc and slow down to a crawl after you transfer a certain amount
so im on a mission to try and find old mlc/tlc drives cause everything affordable now just sucks
Shouldn't be a problem if used as an external drive I reckon.
Would this be faster than a mechanical 2.5" HDD if used in an enclosure? Which enclosure would suit?
Yes, much faster, assuming you aren't limited by your interfacing connections. This is anecdotal but I've had numerous issues with Crucial's reliability in the past, that would be my primary concern rather than speed. If it's a junk/scratch/media drive, definitely has a speed/portability advantage over mechanical. As for enclosures, there's so many that there's no particular one that stands out on its own, it depends on your needs (connections/durability/etc) but make sure it has at least USB 3.0 and decent ratings and you should be fine.
Would this be a good replacement for hdd sata 2 for a 10 years old laptop?
Yes. Even crappy WD green SSD would
Yes 100%
WD Green ARE cr*p!
Buy this.
WD Green is indeed crap, but at least its some what consistent, where bx500 suffer from random slow down as I seen from other people's PC before.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/273952910876?epid=9032157014&has… 46.75 after discount
that is a 240gb!
Oops…. I was comparing the 1TB and must have seen the wrong SSD. 1TB is around 93 after discount was expecting 480gb is slight more than half of 1TB
$90 for 1TB at PLE
Havent seen good reviews on BX though, better to to go MX
What has been the historical lowest price for MX500 480GB
MX500 only has 500gb.
Should be $72
Would this be good for the 2.5 bay of the Nitro Acer 5?
Does anyone know if this is legit seems very cheap at $69.99 for Crucial1tb mx500

get the MX instead, worth the extra cost, save yourself headaches
as much as I like Crucial MX500 and would recommend to everyone who need a SATA SSD, bx500 IMO is crap, heard slow down issues (and physically seen one doing it) multiple times, and also heard they now mix TLC/QLC on BX500s
Wouldn't recommend this drive.
