  • Anyone know if this can be installed on apartment front doors?

    • +6

Body corp will have a fit….

      • Why? Doesn't the door belong to you?

        • +5

inside yes, outside it's common area - needs to be consistent with the look of the building, building manager needs a key for emergencies, compliance, blah blah blah

          • @cycloneaussie: Wow. I never had the body corporate tell us what the door-knobs had to look like. Or the "manager" had keys except for common areas.
It was not supposed to look like a hotel.
Are you thinking of the owners of a rented building?

            • @bargaino: had this experience in apartments of large estates that we've owned in NSW and QLD

      • Not if you obuy and install one on every other apartment's door, too ;)

My folks happen to have a similar unit on their door and it's not an issue, but the design language of the door handle is similar to all the other door handles

I tried asking, had to pay for fire door compliance labour, for the lock, and it still won't belong to me. Total cost was quoted ~$3000. Also I had to convince my neighbours to say yes to me paying for it.

    • The carbine leverset digital lock is fire-rated.https://carbine.com.au/digital-locks/electronic-digital-lock/cel-3-in-1/

      • +2

Even if it is fire rated, the moment you touch the fire rated door without their permission, they will claim that you’ve compromised the safety and compliance.

Phone your strata manager and ask. This seems to replace a regular doorlock that pulls closed rather than deadbolt style.

    If you have a deadbolt - https://www.liquidate-it.com.au/shop/p/lockwoodtlock
Research what you do when the battery goes flat before making a decision.

My T-lock has been going well for months apart from quickly expired original battery due to being old stock and there was no low battery warning beforehand. My plan is to replace the battery before the cold months every year (Easter) to minimise problems. On that occasion it failed, I grabbed the 9v battery stored outside for such occasions, connected it to exterior terminals, entered the PIN and it opened as promised. Our manual fail safe on the side door remains key locked.

  • Thank you, i purchased it

  • Already in waitlist :/

    • +1

      what is the waitlist for?

  • Homekit compatible ?

  • The Bluetooth->wifi gateway is rubbish

  • Missed out. Any other decent deals on wifi+fingerprint (non-deadbolt) lever locks?

Also any idea how easy is it to install one of these since the locksmith will charge another $100+ to install it?

    • +1

This unit looks like a typical doorknob swap.

Try this , reviews are good. Easy to install as per video. Purchaed but yet to try it out

      • Cheers, will give this a shot.

      • Haven't tried that one but did try the deadbolt version so I'm assuming they are pretty much the same. Returned it the next day though mainly as didn't suit my use case.

Hardware is pretty decent, good feature set, fingerprint, pin, RFID, keys. Fingerprint reader was responsive. Not as nicely built as the T-Lock.

Software really let it down though. Runs on tuya, I wanted to integrate in HA but couldn't but that aside, even using the app was painful.

Couldn't find a way to remotely unlock the door. Only option is someone at the door requesting access (long pressing a button) which would send a request to the app. Only thing is you only have 10 seconds to respond from when they request. By the time the request appeared on my phone I'd be lucky to have a second or two to accept it. Can't remember much else now, I basically gave up on it at that point.

TLDR; Decent lock for the price if you're going to use it standalone, not so good if you want the connected features.

  • Am I better this OR a deadlock smart lock?

    • If you already have a separate handle and deadlock, replace the latter.

But if you only have one lock/latch fitted, and cannot drill a second, this is good.

  • Warning - don't bother with these. I got one a few years ago and it's just sitting on my door plugging up the hole I made for it. Useless piece of junk. None of the features work reliably (and it's corroding).
