Heads up looks like only Charcoal has been discounted atm

Sage and Chalk are still $749

    • FFS!! Why?!!!!

      • +3

JB could be discounting them later when the new catalogue starts. They’re prolly in the middle of updating the sales item for next wk

    • +1

The catalogue for father's Day deals that this deal is listed in starts tomorrow, can't remember if it said other colours were excluded in the small print.

Also note that another catalogue which starts in September, can't remember what week, also has the pixel 6a listed at $599 so could be a chance of the other colours being discounted then

    • Sage and Chalk also reduced this morning (25/8)

  • +18

Been using mine for about 2 weeks. Barely lasts a day.

    • +7

2 weeks? Get your hand off it!

    • +2

Sounds like you need more 'juice' for ya phone!

    • +7

Picked one up on release day and it's been great for me, plenty of juice left for me at bedtime.

      • +1

Fair enough. I'm on 5G and watch Youtube extensively.

        • +12

I think you need the latest booster shot to increase the battery life.

        • Excuse me for elaborating on my personal experience!

        • +9

          "YouTube"

        • +2

Just do that on 4G. Very little if any difference except better battery life.

        • +1

I'm too cheap to pay for 5G, 4G and home wifi more than adequate for my usages, maybe that's a good difference. Getting ready for bed soon and at 41%

          • @cook99: How much % does 1 hour of screen on time use?

          • @cook99: Me watching you fine people comments on my Pixel 2 XL.

    • +3

I get about 6 hours screen on time when I'm using it all day.

      • +1

Thanks for using SOT as a measurement. Is that with 4G or wifi?

    • I'm having the same thing, bad battery life. I'm not even a power user…

      • Play with settings

      • +3

Try turning off 5G if you don't need it.

It is huge batt drain for not much benefit. This applies to all phones.

        • +1

So what's the point of the 5G then??

          • +2

@Naigrabzo: It's great if you need faster speeds, but the main benefit is that the towers can have orders of magnitude more connections to them than 3G/4G, meaning you can have stadiums full of people together and you'll all still get full reception.

  • Does anyone know how this would compare against something like the A73? Similar price points, but A73 seems better off most specs

    • Don't buy that. One friend got it and had all the bugs linked to reception etc. Google seems to beta test updates on users

      • +5

Had an A73 for 3 months now and it's been brilliant. No issues at all.

        • +2

I think they might have been referring to the Pixel judging by the Google comment

          • @reloxation: Yep, I know. My reply was actually meant for Jec. Clicked on the wrong reply button.

            • +2

@wombat1955: Sorry I meant the pixels 😊. Save yourself the trouble. Your money is not buggy but the pixels are. They might have fixed those bugs with time but you'll be taking chances

        • +1

same here, a73 has been so good, 120h is really good even though i didnt really care about it before buying. Battery lasts a day with solid use. 2 days with like power svaing mode.

  • +3

I have been using mine since last Monday

works great, updated to Android 13 couple days ago

people say battery doesn't last long, probably depends on your usage? mine works fine and I haven't been in a situation when it died on me.

snappy and light. I like it

screen is great, and gets real bright in the sun. camera is great.

  • +2

Any idea on how long this sale will last?

    • +3

      Deal price ends 7/9/2022.

      • Saw this on the main page on the JB Hi-Fi website too.

  • +3

    Father's day gift sorted!

    • +14

      Son? It's that you?

      • +3

        Dad!
        Missed you….

        Where is Cooler?

        • +1

Son, you really think this phone is going to rekindle our relationship after what you did with your step mother!

  • Just bought one in Vermont South. Also (for the above comment from Jec) A53 (Au model) has only one Sim and 6a has dual (nano +esim)

  • I saw lot of users commented on have heating & FPS issue. Is it sorted out in Android 13 update? If so this is a great deal.

    • Had since launch, seems ok. Few bugs with maps since 13 update though, gotta relaunch it to fix.

    • Ive only had it a day, so I can't really tell you but it hasn't been very warm or laggy while on 13… so maybe its been fixed?… Im sure there are some more updates to come as well.

Someone went through the changelog and found.

Google has bundled the August 2022 fixes for Pixel devices with the Android 13 update and lists over 130 non-security improvements and fixes in its release notes, covering device performance, stability, connectivity, battery and charging, biometrics, Bluetooth, the camera, display and graphics, and more.

  • Hmm - should I get this or stay with my Galaxy S20?

    • +2

NO! I am at the same boat, Pixel 6a "Fast charging 18W" is a joke

      • Thank you!!

  • No headphone jack, I'll pass.

  • I have both and while the Pixel 6a is good, I am a fan of the A73.

  • +3

No unlimited high quality photos to Google photos and worse than snapdragon therefore not really good.

Keeping my Pixel 5 as is don’t need to pay cloud storage. Wait til Pixel 7 here

    • Can we still buy pixel 5 these days and get unlimited storage?

      • If you can find one yes. Second hand perhaps and register with your account

      • Pre-owned market

    • Pixel 7 wont have unlimited saver quality right?

      • No but you can always keep the old phone transfer from new. That's why people keep their pixel 1-3 for that.

This generation of pixel using new chip is not optimised so better wait for second gen

        • I thought you get unlimited storage with Pixel 1 only, not with pixel 1-3

    • How do you know its worse than snapdragon?

  • -4

    Avoid tensor.

    • +1

Tensor has higher benchmark than anything in the range. Also performs better in games. It's essentially flagship level performance.

If it didn't have the name Tensor and wasn't made by Google, people would be mind blown at the performance.

      • +1

Its been fine for me as well. It's great performance.

      • If it didn't have the name Tensor and wasn't made by Google, people would be mind blown at the performance.

That's ignoring pretty much all the reports and reviews that all mention how bad the tensor SOC is at sustained performance, overheating, and reception. It's made by Samsung, not Google, as well.

The power level is great for a mid ranger, but it still overheats and has terrible reception issues.

    • Tensor is fine, stop being a parrot

  • loving this device so far.

  • No charger included. Would any other charger work?

    • Seems to be the standard now. Any USB charger should work

      • +2

It's the same deal like plastic bags you buy your own for bin liners…. Honestly the excuse for been greener to not provide a charger is disgusting meanwhile you go a buy one it's not any greener just corporates saving money

        • +2

Once you've bought one charger you can use it for your next 5 phones though, so it is actually greener and helps the environment significantly in many ways.

          Smaller packaging = less waste
Smaller packaging = more can be shipped in the same area = less shipments needed
No included charger = less included chargers thrown in the bin = less landfill

          • @MrFunSocks: Depends. If your old charger is like 15W and you want to charge your new phone which is 30W for fast charging then its a decision on being greener or having faster charging.

And BTW I still keep my old phone that means I would like to get a new charger.

If you are buying into this greener scheme that corporate make profits out of you by not including it then clearly doing this "being greener" is wrong.

Its just a lie in your face, on the "surface to be greener"

Might as well not use a smartphone that would be much greener

      • -1

You need 30W PPS USB-C charger. Using any basic cheap charger will make your life hell during any possible warranty claim in the near future. Better invest few more coins in Google 30W USB-C Power Charger!

        • Even Google's pixel 3 chargers? That kinda lame

        • +2

How would they even know? I like sticking to a 5W main slow-charger.

        • +2

Why would it be a warranty issue?

        • +1

Using any basic cheap charger will make your life hell during any possible warranty claim in the near future.

Not true at all. They have no way of knowing what charger you use.

        • Doesn't void your warranty just means it will take triple as long on a 10w charger

  • +2

Nabbed one wanted charcoal , glad I waited $599 cant go wrong with flagship stuff. Was avid Samsung user got bored of Samsung . Love size hate those big phones now. Cheers for that

    • +2

It is upper mid range not flagship

  • +1

Thanks OP i managed to price beat at officeworks

  • I have some Harvey Norman gift cards. has anyone tried price beat with Harvey?

    • Good luck

      • +1

Hardly has come to the party

    • +2

      Don't give Gerry a cent.

  • oW reduced to 597 no more price matchies

    • Lol, now need to find who can beat OW price.

  • +4

For those with JB perks, check your emails as they are giving $10 off with $100 spend this week so makes this $10 cheaper.

  • +5

    In before:

"No headphone jack or SD card, pass!"
"I watch YouTube for 4 hours straight in the sauna and it's running hot, is that normal?"
"It's not much of an upgrade from my 2xl. I'll wait for pixel 9"

    • "No unlimited HQ photos, pass!"
"Has no wireless charging or reverse charging, pass!"
"SnapDragon is better than Tensor, pass!"
"Still got Pixel 1 for full blown original quality, pass!"
"Pixel 6 has teething software issues, pass!"
"Doesn't come with a charger, pass!"

      my 2 cents

  • +1

i don’t understand their logic here… why release a budget phone couple months before next flagship only to discontinue it cor months later. might as well discount the pixel 6 instead

    • Probably inventory space needed for new models?

      • it sure is clearance, but my point is why bother making last year’s budget in first place… I’d rather they use the sub performing chips on next year’s budget model and launch together. (similar to iphone se series)

  • +2

60hz is a bit of a deal breaker for me :(

    • also wireless charging for me! just setup wireless charge points everywhere!

  • This is so annoying… I bought it for $749 last week from JB….

    • +2

You can request a refund of the difference if you wanted, worst they can say is no and I'd say they will most likely provide it considering the time difference of the price drop.

      • Would I just ask at the counter?
