Another price drop. Should $1500 around mid Sep.

    • +19

In 3 years should be <1k. HODLLLLLL

      • Nah nah nah in 2 decades it’ll be $100, HODLLLLLL

        • +1

na in 3 decades will be in the Ewaste pile… Hodl

    • +1

Thing is though this thing is likely the same price now,as the card that will eat it by 40 percent or more in 2 months

If u dont need a card now, makes more sense to wait now..and get a 4080..

      • True as long as the whole crypto-scalper cycle doesn't start all over again.

Also the 40— series is going to be super power-hungry.

        • I keep hearing 40xx series "will be power hungry" but the reviews coming out are saying the opposite so far.

          • @DisasterArea: reviews? I think you mean "speculation"

          • @DisasterArea: it will be more power hungry than a 3080ti

id expect a total board power of 375-450

They can only keep the gains up FPS wise now with pumping way more power into the core than needed

        • Crypto isn't going to fire up again until we have cheap energy & cheap money. It's not looking good for the next 2 years.

        • 40 series are likely to be more expensive as well, at least the previous leaks suggested a higher price compared to 30 series (around 3k for 3090 at the start).

          • @DmytroP: dont bring facts to this thread.

          • @DmytroP: Put it this way

NVIDIA had to pay Samsung 105 USD to fabricate the DIE for the GPU in the 3080/3080ti when they started.

TSMC is charging 130-150 USD for fabrication of a node of this compelxity

the New node is costing way more than ever before,

If i can make a guess i think the 4080 will launch at 1299-1499 AUD

But because of supply it's likely to cost us 1800

        • With the upcoming changes to Ethereum GPU mining is as good as dead. There will never be the same demand from crypto miners

        • umm no, the whole thing with the 40xx series is how much better on power they will be since they are using a newer TSMC node.

man, I bought my 3080 close to this price, 2 years ago!

    • +22

Same but you didn't have to wait 2 years to enjoy it at the price from 2 years ago.

      • +1

Yeah the waiting is brutal. I started looking for a new card maybe late last year, then finally bought a 3060 about 2 weeks ago for $500. In that 2 weeks I've already got a ton of use out of it, and almost as importantly I haven't had to spend every day checking for deals or worrying about prices spiking back up for some new crazy reason, and so don't care that they'll probably drop further (though the model I got may not get that cheap again for awhile, and who knows, the mid-tier card prices are oddly resilient).

    comments

    • +7

Wouldn't even buy it if it was sub 1k let them eat there losses HODL

      • I would to sell it lol

  • +22

HODL - Every person counts make them bleed green for robbing people and charging ridiculous prices

Don't pay anything over $1500 for the top end card otherwise get a 2nd hand 1080ti / 2080ti or cheap 3000 series when all the guys who like to pay 3 x the normal amount for an overpriced card ditch there cards for peanuts

    • +1

Nice.. now tell that to the scalpers from 2yrs ago, the same scalpers who'll likely do the same to the RTX 4000 and AMD 7000 series.

Hopefully the miners will be reluctant to do what they did too… problem is that early reviews will no doubt show mining hash rates and reinvigorate those who dumped GPUs early to refresh and update.

Fingers crossed we don't get left with a situation that mirrors what we all faced with Ampere.

      • Clearly you don't follow crypto news

        • Just because ETH is going POS doesn't mean the end of GPU minable POW coins.

ETH will just be another payment method for those who persist in GPU mining.

      • I'd not expect 40 series to be much faster for eth like mining or other tasks limited by memory bandwidth compared to 3090ti.

    • Yeah I've seen 2080 supers around $500 which is still plenty for most games these days anyways !!

  • +5

4070 will probably be just as powerful but cheaper and use much less power
    But probably 6 months away

    • +2

Makes no sense to buy these cards now unless you are "Desperate" for a card right now and even in that case makes more sense to buy a cheapie 2nd hand and hold until 4000 series drops

1.Either the 4000 series is prices properly and like you said better performance etc
2.The 4000 series is price rorted like 3000 series and in that case the 2000/3000 series will go even cheaper regardless

      • +1

        Correct.

Normally xx80 series over priced a little bit. But many people would think that's is reasonable.

xx90 series is super duper over priced. (3080Ti & 3090 there's no difference in gaming performance) but a lot more expensive.

At this time. 3090 might be good choice if price is lower than $1500aud but wouldn't happen lol.

    • Why will they be cheaper?

  • +3

    4080 is out soon

    • So far the message was we may have only 4090 soon, 4080 some day next year.

  • +3

Will this get me blockchain tokens? And the new ico and nft coins? I am planning to get into crypto for use case and the tech and heard tokens and coins will replace common sense soon and the person with a lot of coins will be able to buy a Moon and / or Lambo in the future.

  • +4

seriously one should not pay $1799 for this.

  • +4

lol you have be a noob to buy this. hold hold hold.

  • +7

These top tier cards at the end of their retail lifecycles have to be the worst value propositions each generation… There's almost no reason why you should buy them

    • The only reason I can think about is to use it for productivity tasks, which require or at least benefit from 24GB of VRAM and somehow memory bandwidth limited (it's a part 4090 that does not improve much).

    • -1

F*(', you're talking like it's gonna stop processing graphics the moment next gen is released.

  • +1

Jensen will go on stage September 20. Could be rtx4k, could be more compute waffling.

  • +10

RTX 3090s dropped to $1k in the US ($1.4k AUD). Why are Australian consumers always getting ripped off by the retailers. It's really weird, cus we have plenty of various retailers, but they don't seem to compete. It's almost like they are engaged in price fixing scheme. Like petrol stations.

    • +4

They know people will pay the ridiculous prices and have nothing to lose setting them high to begin with if they sell awesome if they don't then they advertise "deals" which are still above the prices elsewhere

I know EVGA tried to make them cheaper here after they were informed of how much higher there prices were it was actually cheaper for me to buy a evga 1080ti online from the US have it shipped here insured and still saved about $380 aud vs buying it here and EVGA has international warranty and are really good so no issue warranty wise either (They actually repaired my previous original gtx titan card out of the warranty period for free and still works till this day just isn't used)

    • +1

They make bugger all on cards, they rely on volume generally. They get ripped off too.
Gotta remember a lot of hardware comes from places like Synnex that supply to all retailers.

      • Then the retailers should work with the consumers to expose the price gouging and try to fix the issue ?

  • +1

Weren't people trying to charge nearly $3k for these not too long ago?!

    • +2

Not "trying" there were people who actually paid $3k+ for them lmao

  • +12

Ethereum merge in a few weeks, hodl now more than ever, about to be the biggest dump of used graphics cards on the market literally ever.

  • +2

do not forget this were around 4k$.
    LET THEM BLEED

  • +1

I paid $100 less for my 3080 ti back in March. Yeah nearly 6 months use and yeah I did actually needed it and couldn’t wait longer, even though I new better deals would be incoming later on in the year. But still, $100 more for double the vRAM? 24GB is nothing to sneeze at for compute workloads like video editing and ML model training….

  • +4

Nope. Muuuch better value to get an RTX 6900 XT for $999.

    No deal here lol.

  • Guys we should encourage people to buy these deals so they can release 4080 quick

  • +3

The 4080 will be more powerful than the 3090, at 3080 pricing, you would have to be pretty foolish to buy a 3090 right now.

    • +5

Funny, heard that for the 20 series…..

      • If it wasnt for the market conditions at the time, then it would of been true then as well, i did get a 3080 for $1270 on release just took over 6 months to get it at the time.

        • I just wouldn't hold your breath for Nvidia doing us any favours on pricing and availability. The public has shown they'll pay exorbitant prices.

  • +1

    Grabbed 5

  • They sell the card 2-3 times the price, so if they have sold 1/3 of the stock, they made enough money already. Every single card being sold now is just their bonus, no matter what price it is, so keep HODL.ing…

  • Price back up to $2,199. Nice to see that they still have lots of stock even after trying to sell it for $1799. Hopefully it will mean even better deals soon.
