    For anyone wanting to know:
    Starting Weight: 1.25 kg

Not quite as light as the xps13, which is 1.1kg, but ok. Considering this deal is 400 less than the cheapest xps, not too bad.

    • Carry once (1h?) use many times (8h+). I prefer heavier for more connectors/upgradability & definitely 34% larger screen in 40cm+ (diagonal:)

      • I like light weight and l use many times a day !

Considering this deal is 400 less than the cheapest xps

JB has an XPS 13 for $1159 right now

  • +2

    That's a nice setup.

Cheaper if you scored gift cards at 10% off recently.

It seems like a solid deal.

Great spec for school/uni - wish I needed one.

    I have one of these.

It's decently built, I know this because I clumsily dropped it head first onto an office chair's leg and it came out with just a dent. Though the keyboard area isn't as solid as it could be. The screen is a nice size and is as good as the specs would indicate. Battery life was very good for me at first, even with an 85% limit on the charge to extend the lifespan, though it has come down to about 4.5 hours SOT which I guess is fine considering I have installed more crap on it.

The main issue to note with it is that the fans spin up at around 50% load. A lot of people have mistaken it for rain though, so I guess the noise isn't too bad.

Scotch mist or North Queensland thunderstorm?

      • Victorian drizzle

4.5hrs screen on time is pretty awful battery life, for a 13" laptop with a 54wh battery.

      • +1

It went a lot more when I bought it so it's either low quality batteries or my leaving it on charge too much.

        • How long have you had it for? I had a Lenovo S540 13", with a QHD display, an 8 core Ryzen CPU and SOT was around 8.5hrs after 2 years.

          • +1

@shellshocked: About 6 months. I've never been able to get my laptops to last long in terms of battery life. The only one I had that went well was an old Thinkpad and that one had the plus-sized additional battery (I miss that so much).

Seems other users are reporting 6 hours with this thing so my results are probably right.

I think it pulls higher numbers that are advertised with the battery saving feature on the screen that dims and brightens depending on the colours on the screen, but I turn it off because I find it really jarring.

I'll try and get some proper numbers today as the only info I have at the moment is from Windows 11 which is really vague.

            • @Void: Ok so I failed to commit to not charging my laptop for a day as I had to use my dock.

But today it went from 76% at 9:00 to 27% at 3:00. And that was about 4 hours of screen on time doing mostly word documents and web surfing.

Indeed. AMD 6000 laptops have about 10 hours SOT on average

        • +1

Yeah I would probably go 6000 too if I could buy now. I only chose the Intel one because when I bought it there was no Thunderbolt on Ryzen.

      • Yeah I thought the 12th gen Intel chips were supposed to have the best power efficiency out of everything at the moment?

        • Nope, 12th gen is still worse than Ryzen.

        • That's news to me. A lot of the reviews online say how bad 12th gen is in terms of performance per watt compared to AMD Ryzen. Some of the reviews online show certain laptops where the AMD version has almost double.the battery life of the Intel 12th gen version due to manufacturing process being inferior to TSMC's, which AMD and Apple use.

If you had heavier 40cm+ laptop you would have dented the office chair ;)

  • Any real world differences between 12th gen i5 and i7 for office tasks?

    • +2

Depends on the cooling system in the laptop based on reviews I just looked up. 12th gen P series needs about 64w TDP to perform, whether it is an i5 or i7. Thin and light laptops don't have the capacity to cool 64w TDP, so if it will depend on whether the i5 or i7 in the laptop bought throttle first which will effect performance.

    • No.
You will probably be fine with an i3

    • +1

Okay so I've checked out both the i5 and the i7 and the difference is 2

  • So much lighter than lugging surface book. I bought the i7 version of this Dell from recent sale and it’s really great little laptop . Love the ports and the screen .
The only thing to watch out In future is overheating issues that affecting dell thin computers. My dell XPS ( thin form factor ) overheated after running zoom for 20 minutes .

  • Can anyone confirm if you can get more then 1080p out of the HDMI port

    • I believe HDMI 1.4 can do 4K 30hz, and I've been able to get 1080p 144hz to work. I don't have a 4K monitor to test.

Can get plenty of resolution with Thunderbolt though.

      • Not interested in 1080p tho. Want to do dual 1440p or 4k monitors

        • I know I'm just saying 1080p 144hz is the same bandwidth as 4K 30hz so it should be able to do it.

If you want to do dual 4K look into whether a Thunderbolt dock can do it.

  • Would this really take a month to ship?

    • +1

      Received mine yesterday.
