    Store in title?

  • +1

Seems to be a good price. This stuff is pretty expensive and doesn't get heavily discounted. Postage kinda kills it but I guess you can buy two?

  • +3

Remember to price beat at Chemist Warehouse to bring the price down to $52.39.

    • I've never tried it. How much trouble can it be?

      • +2

Super easy. I asked the staff not really knowing if they had a price matching policy and they just did it on the spot.

        • Good to hear. May try it next time I see something cheaper elsewhere.

        • +1

Good for you. Might work in store but online it’s a disaster. Never worked and was always denied. They responded weeks after. My next store is 4 hours away.

      • Don’t bother. Never worked for me.

    • They match up with in store prices apparently.

      • +1

If you're ordering online and getting it delivered, super easy — you just send through the link. In store, it can be quite a bit more difficult, as many require the manager to be called down to verify and approve the price. You can't get a click and collect order price matched either though.

        • Never worked for me…

    • It’s big trouble and it was always denied to do a price match online. I followed all instructions but they responded weeks after and said not eligible. They are a joke!

      • +2

You can't price match a solely online pharmacy, but because this is the same as the in-store price for other Chemist Discount Centres, they should match it without issue.

        • +2

sometimes staff may also check that there is stock at those stores.

          source: i work at cw

          • +1

@lachlantula: True, I remember these stores and only go to friendly ones to do pricebeat, and just did one today, they matched Superpharmacy price plus 10% price different.

Can i get pregant? also how does babby formed?

Is there a possibly that I'm pegrent?

    • +8

For such an online place, it's sad OzB doesn't know this meme.

    • yeah be very careful taking these.

I noticed my wife taking these a while back and a few weeks later she told me she was pregnant.

  • +9

The evidence is really only for iodine and folate supplement, Elevit is very expensive for all the other fillers

    • -3

Yeah I reckon lot of marketing went into this and doctors got good commission. Is there an. Alternative?

      • +3

as with most things if you package a mudane product, add a few extras and market it as a new improved product you can sell it for 10x more
it's not even on a script how does drs get a commission?

        • -2

          Don't doctors prescribe this ?

          • +2

@life is suffering: it's over the counter, no scripts needed

          • +3

@life is suffering: I don’t bother telling patients to change if they already take Elevit, but if not, I specifically tell them not to bother with Elevit, and just get Blackmore’s folate.

      • +2

Blackmores iFolic (iodine + folic) muchos cheaper

        • damn that's way cheaper than what I'm paying lol

      • +1

A lot of marketing, but doctors don't grt commission. Doctors are just as lazy as everyone else. If they aren't up to date they will just recommend the brands familiar to them

    • +2

      Thanks Ozbking!

I was just about to ask how many of the ingredients have any evidence of possible benefit.
The other one they mention on the front is iron.

So if your iron levels are good, and you use iodised salt at home for cooking (as we all should!), just buy a box of folate tablets for less than $10.

      • Even if your iron isn’t good, the generally recommended to only start in the second trimester due to iron causing more nausea.

      • +1

use iodised salt at home for cooking (as we all should!)

Just curious, what foods do you add salt to when cooking? I can't recall the last time i in used any salt when cooking, though i do have a really old container of iodized salt at the back of my pantry.

        • +2

what foods do you add salt to when cooking?

meat, vegetables, bread, … just about anything.
Have you ever tasted unsalted bread or butter?

I can't recall the last time i in used any salt when cooking,

Are you really cooking from scratch, or using premade sauces etc?

It is very expensive but we spent a lot of money on IVF and all sorts of other stuff. Pretty much gave up after many many years. Towards the end we were both taking Elevit when earlier she had been taking a different brand, while I was just taking iron and maybe some other regular supplements. We got pregnant naturally after being told our chances were very slim. Hard to say whether Elevit was that much of a factor but it "worked" for us.

      • thanks for sharing, we are trying as well, its been 8 months. Was it age that was why it was very slim? we are both 34 right now.

        • +3

You guys should have plenty of time. I wouldn't start pressing the panic button quite yet. Maybe speak to your doctor and have some tests done? Sometimes it's just one of your tubes are blocked or your sperm is a bit slow or something like that.

Age would have been a factor eventually (we did start earlier than you guys, but don't panic yet, more info to come) but we did IVF so we had a lot of extra help along the way. All up we tried for 7 or 8 years. We both had some issues and they told us that it would be very hard naturally. The first few IVF cycles weren't too bad but after a few really brutal ones we pretty much gave up hope.

We were on Elevit because our second IVF doctor recommended we both take it. We bought it in bulk as there were some cheap deals at the time. Even though we had both kinda accepted that we wouldn't have children we both kept taking Elevit and just tried from time to time.

          • +2

@ozbs25: thank you for sharing your story, it must of been hard for you!
Thank you very much for taking the courage to share it.

We have booked in an IVF clinic in westmead aleady, we have taken test, and seems everything is fine.

            • +1

@BaeSuzy: It was all worth it though.

              Good luck with everything :D

          • +1

@ozbs25: Hate to intrude but are you MF or FF. I ask because I wasn’t aware of taking such things for male partner.

            • +3

@maxwellian: There is a male version of Elevit. I took it for quite a few months before we got pregnant. I found it easier to find that one on special than the female one. I think our IVF doctor recommended it as my sperm was a bit lazy or something. A bit like me really…

            • +2

@maxwellian: There is Elevit for M, called Menevit. Same company

              • @l2p10: Yeah, remembered that fact after but had no access to ozb.

                • @ozbs25: Will try Menevit too then!

                  • @BaeSuzy: My sperm had really low motility which I assume was a major factor (amongst a few) in us not being able to conceive naturally. During IVF I don't think that was a factor as we went with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) every time. We only discovered the low motility when the second IVF doctor suggested I test my sperm. She suggested I go onto Menevit.

        • Try 'Tongkat Ali' for the hubby. It has pretty decent evidence for increased sperm count. Also a very cheap supplement

      • +1

We got pregnant 1st time we tried but miscarried. Then 12 months could not get pregnant so did IVF. Said I had a low sperm count and we had 2% of conceiving naturally. 2nd insemination worked.

Didn't cost too much with top tier private health. It's the egg retrieval that is the most expensive part.

Then went on holidays a few months ago and we thought we will give it a shot naturally. Now preparing for our second.

Still have a few eggs in the freezer but think we will stop at 2.

I am 37 and the wife is 32.

Used Elevit trying to conceive naturally and during pregnancy.

But this time haven't used it to conceive.

          Congrats on your 2nd mate

        • +3

          Congrats.

As much as people try to avoid talking about age, the fact that your wife is relatively young is definitely in your favour. Stress also seems to play a huge part. Heard lots of stories of people giving up or doing something that releases built up stress then suddenly falling pregnant. I think both of these were factors for us.

  • What is the expiry of it?

  • +3

Thanks OP. Bought it just now at castle towers chemist warehouse for $52.39 after price match.expiry date is 07/11/24

My wife's experience, Elevit made her very unwell during her pregnancy. Swapped to Blackmores and all her symptoms disappeared almost instantly.

Elevit not necessarily will suit everyone, and so much pricier as well

    • +2

What was the Blackmores tables you switched to?

      • +1

        Blackmores Pregnancy & Breast-Feeding Gold.

She was getting very severe morning sickness with Elevit, though YMMV

        • +2

thats because of high iron content 27 vs 10 in blackmore (a different form of iron too). Iron supplementation is really need from 2 nd trimester onwards. there are bunch of studies on it. So blackmore in the first trimester and then either supplement it with iron in 2nd onwards or switch to elvit. morning sickness anyways goes away /lessens after first semester

          • @truebunny: Yup but try to convince someone who suffered severe symptoms to go back to it, no chance. Our Dr told us to stay with Blackmores.

Yes research says more iron better. But then it will lead to other issues like constipation as well. Our previous generations had no such luxury and we are still normal. IMO they all are supps that u can have, but don't have to.

Is this for the people who made use of the free condoms in the previous deal?

    • How do you get pregnant with condoms?

      • Dodgy free ones that don’t work

      • Easy. Be very rich/celebrity.. go out, meet a girl, and hook up with her using the condoms she brought.

Thats a different product on amazon mate..this listing is of different product..best price at local pharmarcy is usually $69.99 for this one..

      • Do you know the difference? I can't see the ingredients for the DHA…

        • the DHA is intended to be taken in conjunction with the pregnancy multivitamin. elevit DHA's formulation contains exclusively DHA, unlike the pregnancy multivitamin which is, obviously, a multivitamin.

  • much different with Natalis? same same but different?

  • Good deal. Any idea of expiry date?

  • Any promo code available at checkout for a first-time user?

  • do these work? I'm new to this stuff and would like to learn more

    • You won't get pregnant taking these if that's what you mean.

You really only need the folic acid during first trimester and iodised salt. the other things in it are just poor excuses for the mark up

  • Folic acid, iron, iodine are what the dr said to make sure are in the supplements.
    I found on iherb
    https://au.iherb.com/pr/21st-century-prenatal-with-folic-aci…
I also take kelp every other day for iodine
It has vitamin A though so I'll have to switch once i fall pregnant
Or just buy this at this price and not worry
