Google is an Evil Ad company, it feeds on you!

  • Tempting, I have been using the Google Mini quite a bit with Spotify, just very convenient but the sound quality could be better. Don't get me wrong, for the tiny size of the mini, it's better than I expected.
Anyone have two of these linked in Stereo can advise what the sound quality is like? Is 2 really that much better than 1?
I don't trust reviews with adds.

Pairing 2 Minis in stereo mode is very unreliable. I'd imagine it would be similar with these.

If you're not too deep in the Google ecosystem, I'd get the Amazon Echo Dot. It was AUX out, so you can use it with any speakers you want.

      • More then likely it's your wifi that causes unreliable issues with Google nest products

        • My Obri’s wifi is rock solid. Shitty Google quality is what causes problems with Nest products.

    • I have a mini, 2x hubs, a nest wifi (also a speaker) and Yamaha soundbar all linked. Even without the soundbar I find the linked audio (speaker groups) fine. I'm sure this speaker would be better again, more equivalent to a decent bluetooth speaker like the JBLs.

    • I'll second the note about mini's being unreliable as a pair. I've had a pair of google home minis, later upgraded to nest minis and they've each had problems. The nest shits me constantly, as they cut out in the middle of replying, don't respond, won't let me change the volume half the time. Factory reset them several times, but it's clear there's a larger issue at play with them in this config. Seems hat they're very sensitive to being in proximity to one another, and that any significant distance (which I want for soundstage) causes problems

      • 3rd with unreliable speaker pairing, Nest audio here. Good sound quality tho'.

      • Strange. I have 2 x Google Home Max paired in stereo mode, and linked with a Nest audio and an original Google Home. This group has been working fine for the past 2.5 years.

        • At my parents' place we had a pair of OG Google Home, now a pair of nest audio, they work perfectly. I think they must be very sensitive to placement distance, and line of sight for low latency

    • I got a free mini on the bedside table, not bad and functional but the audio is meant to be a lot better sound wise.

    • The mini sound is pretty tinny, but alright for the size as you say - fine for voice commands, telling you the weather and general stuff. Tempted to get the audio for better sq for music, would be better than two minis. Just repurpose the mini to another room or something. Mind you I may not bother, pretty annoying half the time (getting voice commands wrong etc).

  • was cheaper few days ago at Mydeal, even at $8x I didn't bite

  • So I tried pairing 2 of these up yesterday with my Google Nest Hub (the one with the 7" screen) . Usually, I can ask Google to play what ever song I want on YouTube with the hub, and it'll do it. Once I add these and run all 3 speakers, it starts telling me I need a YouTube premium account to pick which song I want to listen to, and will instead play a "station" similar to that song. As soon as I remove these from the group, it goes back to normal. Can't quite figure it out.

Sounds like one of the speakers might have YT music set as the default. Worth looking at unpairing, changing the default and repairing

    • You can play YouTube on the Nest hub without premium because the nesthub has a screen. Being able to play just the audio from a YouTube video is a premium only feature.

      • Doesn't work for all video's, some have a 'listen with YouTube music' option in the settings. Makes sense if you're trying to play a video on an audio device.

Check your email from JBHIFI deal, they sent me an exclusive coupon for Jbl Linkview for $99. Sound is a lot better than this and has a touchscreen google display.

    • share the deets on this?

      Probably not worth it,

this is EOL and has not received any updates in more than a year.

I have one and its a decent device but Android Things has been discontinued, and Google has moved its own displays to Fuchsia, while leaving Lenovo, JBL etc behind.

  • All back to $149 now.

    • The link says $124
Thanks op, grabbed one from JB's the other day $97 price matched
(used the 8% shopback $100 JB voucher)
