Sorry mate most people have been brainwashed it seems. Who cares if someone has been vaccinated or not for God's sake. I'm triple vaxxed personally but don't give two craps if you or anyone else is. I won't tell you what to do with your own body.

    • +2

      ok……

You won’t have me flying Qantas anytime soon.

  • -1

yep, just like that, no love for Melbourne

    • +4

There's lots of love for Melbourne, the poster just forgot to add Melbourne in the title. All fixed up now.

  • +32

Does the baggage come with us on the same flight or takes a different flight (Asking for a friend!!)

    • +9

Also comes with the ability to sleep on the terminal floor when they cancel the flight. However, by the sound of it, you might be able to get a free firearm off the baggage carousel.

  • +3

    Cost $350 + 1 baggage

    • +4

Not $350 + lost baggage + multiple cancelled flights? ;)

  • +6

You’ll be lucky if you get a return flight.

  • Struggle to find any flights close to that price from Syd-Per.

    • +1

Yeah, I had a quick look from Hobart (doubted they would have a $350 option from here anyway) and the cheapest I found was $400 one way

      • +1

Hobart is excluded even though Qantas claim the fare is available from every capital city in Australia.

        • I think you might be right, it clearly says "Hobart" yet I can't find any flights at the discounted rates and I've looked at around 3 weeks of dates.

Would not go Qantas to Perth if you paid me $350. Last 3 times, from Perth, have been bumped to red eye..not exaggerating…last flight: bumped 7 hours later to red eye. When 15 mins away from melb, diverted to Adelaide. 5 am arrive in Adelaide, airport closed. Wait another 2 hours on plane. Get off plane in Adel. Get muffin break voucher. 4 hrs later leave for Melbourne. Arrive a day late. No sleep. Miss important meetings etc, need to take day off cause knackered. Never again. No costs covered, extra parking, taxis etc. No refund for bumbing to much cheaper flight. DO NOT DO IT.

    • +4

I was on that flight too at Easter. I was due to land Melbourne Sunday night and landed 12 hours later. But scored a $20 voucher in Perth for food. Nothing else. Qantas failed again

    • I fly from Perth to Sydney often for work and have never been bumped. I am surprised it is this common and I have just been lucky I guess.

  • +11

Perth's airport rail link opens on October the 9th and unlike the rip off ones in Sydney and Brisbane, you can catch the train (Redcliffe station for Qantas) for $5 or less into any part of the city.

    • +1

which terminal in perth does the train depart from?

edit: never mind, redcliffe station looks like a long way from the terminal

      • Looking at the Redcliffe station website, there should be a shuttle between T3/T4 and the station if you don't or can't walk the distance. I think eventually the plan is for Qantas to move to the central terminal area, where the airport station is very close to the terminals.

        • So if we land in T3/4 in Perth airport, we need to catch a shuttle bus to Redcliffe train station? We can't use the airport central station?

          • -1

@nightqueen: You can walk over, it's just about a kilometre away. The airport central station serves T1 and T2 but is not very close as you have to go around the airfield which adds at least 5km

            • -1

@Pcoder: And at Perth airport there is no internal walking corridor to go from T1/2 to T3/4 area?

              • @nightqueen: As I said T1/T2 and T3/T4 are separated by the airfield which is a good 5+km distance apart by road. No Australian airport has a people mover system to traverse big gaps between the terminals

  • +3

Anyone know if you can use the $50 from Qantas?

    • +1

      Don't see why not

    • As long as it fits within the dates, then yes, you should be able to with no issues.

      • Voucher has to be used on a single trip & single person travel. Won't work if more than one of you.
Tried it on our family booking…..No Sireeeeee!

        • Definitely did not see a place where you can enter in the promo code.

    • T&C's: " This offer cannot be redeemed in conjunction with 'Travel Credits' or 'Travel Pass', Classic Flight Reward fares, Points Plus Pay fares, other promo codes or promotional offers."

  • +20

anyone watched 4 corners? Definitely not flying with these mob. The thing about loading baggage incorrectly and could possibly bring down the aircraft is frightning!

    • +9

"Ah, but the fact that we caught it shows that our systems work!" No Qantas, the last line in your defense against stuff ups caught it, there were several beforehand that didn't. Make sure every level is capable of doing the jobs they NEED to do then people will start to look at your more favourably again.

      • +6

Exactly! Not to mention their pathetic excuse of less incidents is because THEY'RE GOING UNREPORTED!
Experience is vital in safety-critical roles. Safety shouldn't need to cross my mind but it will be flying Jetstar out of Sydney.
I'm glad Qantas' illegal outsourcing of ground handling is probably costing them far more than it otherwise would've.

    • +1

Haven't watched that yet, but did they go into any detail about the absolute scum-(profanity) they were/are doing with denying refunds? After my experience with these sketchy (profanity), will never fly with them.

  • +3

Hopefully VA do something to match it

    • +1

Looks like they are, at least from ADL

  • Don't forget to wind back your clock twenty years

  • +5

Or just stop charging $580 each way regularly

  • +27

No thanks. Not until Alan Joyce departs.
Sacks everyone and then blames delays on "rusty passengers". Prick.

    • +7

Yeah I was pretty astounded by that, you can’t get on national media and blame customers for Qantas’s problems.

      He needs to go IMO.

    • +2

The one is is being abused by there ‘customer service’ in Suva.

I tried to move a flight due to covid.

I was reverse Karened - “im not paying $150 in change fees + the flight difference, there should be no change fee it’s your policy. Can I please speak to your manager”

Suva woman (BBL) - she laughs and goes no - there is no reason for you to. I explain that she doesn’t understand the policy and there is a reason to.

She laughed again and tells me it’s $150++ like it or not that’s the number I called.

I can hang up or pay it.

      I was furious

      Edit -
      I still am furious

Anyone considering CBR<>PER direct should probably run their dates past me first. Both direct flights for our last trip there were cancelled and we went over via SYD and back via MEL. For our next trip, next month, they've already cancelled the direct flight over and we're via SYD again. It's only that we're coming back on VA via MEL (to make use of a use-it-or-lose-it travel credit) that they didn't impact us on the return flight too, as they've also cancelled the direct flight on that day. We have one other forward booking in Jan / Feb that I expect will be stuffed around closer to the date. For any other CBR<>PER bookings that I make from now on, I'm just going to assume that Qantas will dick us around and see what VA has on offer instead.

    • +1

Hi colin, im thinking booking first week of November, Canberra to Perth return. Is it a very unreliable service and expect cancellations?

      • +2

I have no plans then so you should be OK, lol. I'd still suggest having a contingency plan though, just in case. I'm retired, so the extra travel time and transits are more of an annoyance than anything else.

The substitute flights we've had so far have been a mixed bag. Last CBR-SYD was a turboprop and the SYD-PER leg was still only a 737-800, same as what's used on CBR<>PER direct (when it actually flies). At least we had an A330-200 for the PER-MEL leg on the way back. The 717 we were supposed to be on for the MEL-CBR leg went tech though, so we were delayed for another hour or so whilst they rustled up another one and they didn't have time to load catering.

At this stage our CBR-SYD flight next month is a 717 and SYD-PER is an A330-200.

  • +1

Question does cheap mean better in this case?

  • Just flew Per - Melb couple days ago everything got here in one piece and on time, though still got the return leg to go !

  • +6

    Qantas?

Watch The Four Corners doco on Qantas and you will definitely be flying with another airline.

  • +4

Qantas? No thanks, rather take a bus

  • +2

Cant see any Syd-Per during those dates below 600$

    • Same for SYD <-> PER.

I only looked in 2022, though.

They also have dates in March 2023, which I did not check.

  • +1

Prices hiked or sold out? Could get Mel-Per Qantas for $175 each way this morning. Now it'll be $400 one way on Jetstar.

    • Make sure you're going through the link, not just searching generally

  • FYI Virgin are matching the price for many flights.

Great for me as I wanted to cheap fair but hated the idea of booking with Qantas. You do miss out on the $50 voucher, but I will pay $50 extra to not put money in Alan Joyce's pocket.

    https://www.virginaustralia.com/en-au/flights-to-perth

  • Can't seem to find any dates today, not sure if it is sold out or promotion withdrawn?

  • Bummer just noticed the banner at the top, it is sold out.

  • Flying to Perth from the east… staying a few days… both ways…. breaks up a trip to Bali or Asia quite nicely.

(At one time you could have faith in a nested return flight with Q; not so sure now. So, having a couple of days before flying on seems sensible, now).
