Awesome, wonder if it does "Display"

  • +1

Thoughts on it as a gaming monitor with a RTX 3060Ti?

      • +7

My question is more can the 3060Ti Drive the extra pixels of a WQHD vs a regular QHD at a reasonable frame rate? I know the recommendation is to stick with 1440p vs 4K with the 3060Ti, but wondering if it would cope with the few extra pixels

You haven't told us what games are you intending to play and at what graphic setting?
If you are playing Fortnite at medium setting, yeah should be fine.
If you are playing Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing and ultra setting, then no.

          • @edfoo: Probably mostly games that are a year or two old… I'm too cheap to pay full price for games at release generally, i wait a year or two until they come down to a reasonable price.

I haven't had a gaming PC for a few years now, and I've just ordered last week a new gaming PC from a deal on OZB of course, its an AMD R5 5600, 16GB RAM, and RTZ 3060Ti.

My Steam library wouldn't currently have anything newer than probably 4-5 years ago, but i guess I will start to get some newer stuff once it arrives.

      Said above.

    • I have a a 6700xt with a 3600 ryzen with a 34" ultrawide. you're looking at solid 60 fps gaming at max resolution. it'll be close but struggle to reach a sustained 100fps+. hope that narrows down the expected performance.

I don't know that much about high refresh monitors, but I assume you'll need the FPS to match the refresh rate to take advantage of it.

    • -1

3060ti will do 60-100fps in most games as long as you're willing to drop settings to medium, maybe even low.

2k UW is roughly the same number of pixels as 4k, so look up benchmarks of the 3060ti at 4k and it will roughly follow what you see.

Personally, 3060ti is a little underpowered for 4k. I'm a framerate snob though, anything much less than 80 and I won't play it. Strategy games are ok, anything where your mouse controls a camera though I can't do.

      • No, 4K has significantly more pixels than 2K ultrawide.

    • 142fps in horion 5 on ultra,

How good is this for wfh? Coding, Viewing docs, some times vidros3 etc. Can the screen be split and only the split screen shared on ms teams/other?

    • +3

Dell has Display Manager software that helps set up preset window layouts. I'm not sure regarding Teams though, I don't think it would treat those split windows or layouts as different screens but there may be some other software that allows that. Otherwise you'd just have to share the application window itself rather than part of the screen.

      • thank you

      • Nice, I never knew they had this.
I've been using FancyZones from Microsoft, but that didn't work with Citrix windows

    • The only issue is sharing screen over teams. There is an app which runs as an overlay for partial screen. You press play and share that app. Whatever that all covers gets shared over Teams. Been using this monitor for productivity and I can't go back to my conventional setup.

    • FYI Windows 11 incorporates window zones (old fancyzones from powerapps function) that lets you easily split and work between different tasks as well.

    • I have the same work situation as you. Try and get yourself a 4K monitor. 27” is a good size, but this is a preference thing. If you have space for 27”, that gives flexibility to have one horizontal and one vertical which can be pretty handy with coding and data sets.
I use the Dell S2722QS and it is very practical.
If you’re intending to play games, you’d look for higher refresh rate.
You can see reviews on rtings.com to see why office use is different to gaming. They haven’t added many of the newer monitors though.
      Good luck

    • W11 has great window management.

Don't forget the 7% dell student discount. You need access to a .edu email address. They send a code. I am sure someone here can help you if you don't have access to it. Price goes down to $501.64.

    • my code took off the RRP, not from the sale price.
      wtf?!

      • +2

Use the 7% code. There should be two codes. You must be using 20% one which works off RRP.

        • +1

just tried the second code. Worked perfectly.
          Thanks for the heads up

    • +1

Thank you. This worked perfectly. Cheers

    • Tried the codes (5%, 7% and 20% just to be sure), didn't work. Tried using edu as account, personal non edu account or guest, didn't work.

      • Worked for me and so many others. It's a personalised code you get via email to the .edu account.

        • Tried the 7% again, kept saying it's not a valid code. Some kind soul message me with a fresh code pls?

  • Does anyone have a spare student code that can share? Would like to buy the monitor. Appreciate the help.

I bought one of these on the last Dell sale, love it.

  • +1

Same, purchased this in oct 21 from the other sale. Rate this monitor

    • But you didn't tell us your rating. So what's the point in telling us that you have rated it?

  • Better then the xiaomi one?

    • Yep. Xiaomi is older.

    • I had both, similiar performance, but dell have better craftsmanship and usb hub, if the price difference is with $100, go for dell for better warranty and more features.

    • current price difference between dell and xiaomi is around $100, would go for Dell.

    Thank you OP.
Bought one for $501.63 with student code. Not sure why it is .63 vs .64.
Edit: only to use it for WFH.
    Not for gaming.
Now to get a good chair and table …

  • This or the HP X32, which is not curved or an ultrawide but is an IPS? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/725127

  • +2

Brought one of these last year for $580.

Great monitor for intro to ultrawide, I'd say once you go ultrawide you don't go back.

The first one had a few issues, basically doa, it would regularly just go black even though it was on and the backlight was on, so I returned it, had a terrrrible experience with StarTrack and dell customer service, even though they agreed to replace straight away, had to drive to airport StarTrack depo twice and they're not open after work or on weekends.

The second one was finicky at first but I enjoy it now, I still have a bitter root after the first experience that took about a month to resolve.

After all I enjoy the monitor a lot, I don't have the black issues with below 60 fps with the Nvidia sync like what some of the others do.

Occasically when I change the system volume or change tracks and the windows pop up comes on during a full screen 3D application, the screen will go blue like a bsod for a fraction of a second, then be fine, when it first did that I thought it was all over again. Sometimes alt tabbing from a full screen game, makes windows go at like 15 fps visually even though its not cpu, and if you alt tab again twice its 144 again.

HDR 400 is great its more like 600, although the whole HDR and frame sync thing is seemingly half baked and thats why I think I get the issues I do, but its a lot better after firmware and drivers, 1080Ti. I was going to get one of the samsung oddesseys, but I have read that they're a bit hit and miss as well, as to why I thought it was safer to just get a cheaper like this monitor to see what its like.

Make sure you use the DisplayPort cable that comes in the box, just about any other I've tried has strange issues, like not having better colour available, or hdr hz issues, screen not coming on when the pc wakes you name it, mine even gets upset if I have the cable running inside the cable way with all the other wires in my ikea desk, I have to run it separately on the outside.

  • Does anyone know if I can get 100hz and 10 bit or more thru HDMI
Having this combo (2monitors)dp 144hz and 10bit ,but just 8 bit on HDMI -second monitor
    Please advise
    Cheers
    Dawid

  • Amex have 10% back, so probably down to $486 or $450(7% student off).

  • Someone in April was telling horror stories about how the price increase in May would be "Scary" on these.

Anyone got any experience with desk mounting these? Which mount to use and how was the experience?

  • was the lowest, this deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/640968

  • No KVM switch? :(

  • +1

Very happy with the one I purchased on a similar special deal a couple of months ago.

  • Does anyone have a spare student code that can share? Would like to buy the monitor. Appreciate the help.

  • +2

I bought this monitor literally a week ago when Dell had a smilar sale.

Really happy with it, I use it for casual gaming and wfh/produtivity.

Did have noticeable red tint out of the box, simply changed the colours on the monitor itself and reduced the Red Gain down to 90%, looks great.

If you have been thinking of getting an ultrawide for gaming and/or produtivity, this is a great pick for this price :)

    • Hi there. Just a question. When unpacking your monitor, did the screen have any protection film or labels etc that you had to remove. I just received mine and although it was packed in the form wrap etc, it monitor itself had no protection film and had a couple of marks, looked like it had been opened and was going to raise it with Dell.

      Thanks.

  • So general consensus is this is a great option at the price point?

Been looking at ditching my dual monitor setup (32"/27") for a single 34" or bigger. I'm so indecisive when it comes to pressing that buy button tho.

  • If we are unable to get the student discount as some of us are not studying nor have access to an @edu email address, then what are the other ways we can get a discount? Discretely through sales chat?

    • +3

Just pay this $549.30 price. It’s a good deal.

  • Thanks for this, just got one with student discount.

  • Received the monitor. Happy with the purchase. Notice monitor does not have speaker however there is audio setting. Can anyone who has this monitor confirm?

  • +1

Still waiting for mine to arrive, was onboard with the courier (StarTrack/AusPost) yesterday morning at 7:30am and it never got delivered and no deliveries today with the public holiday. I was hoping it would turn up yesterday so I could use it today on the day off but now I’ll have to wait until tomorrow for delivery so then the weekend to use it.

    • Got mine on Tuesday. Very nice so far.

Can you do me a favour. When unpacking your monitor can you let me know if the screen has any protection film or labels etc that you had to remove. With mine, although it was packed in the foam wrap etc, it monitor itself had no protection film and had a couple of marks, looked like it had been opened and was going to raise it with Dell.

      Thanks.

  • Can anyone share a student code(7% off) with me? Thanks in advance.
