waiting for 15% off at coles

    • Any clue when that is

      • +5

        Probably around Black Friday.

Unfortunately I don't know exactly, however, they have done the promotion the last 2 years before xmas.
Hope to load up $3-4K of cards for JBHIFI purchases over 2023-24

    • Big time ma8

    • me too

  • Currently using Optus eSim, but have never moved between providers while on eSim so unsure of the process.

Can this Vodafone starter pack be used to transfer from Optus eSim to Vodafone eSim?

    • +1

usually it’sa physical sim. Just pop into a vodafone store to covert it.

    • This will come as a physical SIM. The process to port is no different. You'll need to pop into a Voda store to convert from SIM to eSIM.

    • The process would be the same as a normal sim depending on your phone the esim swap can be done in settings with iPhones and for other phones through the myvodafone app.

Not that I care given the 20 gift cards mix of HIM/HER/Teen cards I bought from Coles to pay for new iPhone but strange it’s only HER and not HIM cards as well.

    Wonder why 🤔

  • Still have some of The Restaurant gift cards from previous deal.
How do you spend the last few $ in it?

    • And to make things worse, like all small shops, restaurants are also charging processing fee from 1 to 2.25 % which makes calculations super complex.

And the worst is that they are also reluctant to split the payment!

      • Exactly, my best bet so far is maccas. Not sure if there's any fast food that can do mix payment like coles/woolies

        • Haven't tried KFC, but macca's will do a cash/card split payment.

Just make sure you have exact cash ready to make it easy for the cashier.

          • @Craze: Really?
Can you do it on the ordering machine or you have to do it at the counter?

            • @OzBestDeal: Can't do it via kiosk, have to order at counter.

    • +1

Havent had any issue paying with multiple cards to the cent at sushi hub and grilled.

Maybe because they also accept the Eats gift card.

      • Did you ask the counter for multiple card payments?

        • Yeah I just say im paying with gift card and the specific values.

I've done it at multiple sushi hubs too

my tip when adding physical cards to jb hi fi online gift cards, is the first 10 digits are normally all the same.

so you dont need to type 10 digits again.

I guess you can’t use Wish or Woolworths gift cards?

    • +1

AFAIK, you cannot use WISH or Woolworths Supermarket gift cards as a payment method for any gift cards at Woolworths.

      • It is against the WISH / Woolworths Supermarket gift card terms and conditions.

      • If you select Gift Card as a payment method at a self-service checkout and then you scan, swipe or enter a gift card, you'll have an Item Not Allowed error pop up on the EFTPOS terminal.

      • If you go to a standard checkout and ask to pay using a Gift Card, you'll either be told "no" by the checkout operator, or the checkout operator will let you try and you'll get the same error message as the one you get at self-service checkouts.

      • If you try to use Everyday Pay as a payment method for purchasing gift cards at Woolworths, you will get an Item Not Allowed error and you should be sent back to the regular payment screen. This is because you cannot use Everyday Pay as a payment method when purchasing gift cards under any circumstances, even if you have no Woolworths Supermarket nor WISH gift cards added to your Everyday Pay wallet.

However, I’m not sure whether you can purchase SIM cards using WISH or Woolworths Supermarket gift cards. It’s not specifically against the terms and conditions of a WISH or Woolworths Supermarket gift card (unless Woolworths has a loose interpretation of “gift cards” and “vouchers”). I don’t have any recent experience attempting this, as I haven’t purchased a SIM card from a supermarket for a few years, but I’m sure someone more knowledgeable can help you out there.

I’ll be doing 36 this week. I can’t wait for the awkward moment when I show the attendant all the cards.

        • Theyre used to it. Just have them opened and peeled before hand so you're not doing the actual opening of the cards and scratching pin when youre at the counter…

    • online there is a limit on the amount of cards you can use, but in store it's unlimited.

    • +10

      I can think of a few risks…

      • You may struggle to find stock for higher-denomination gift cards, particularly the $100 TCN HER gift cards. Late last week (as the 10% off TCN gift card deal kicked off in most parts of Australia), I noticed all Coles stores around me had no $100 denominations available. Additionally, during previous 10% off TCN gift card deals at Woolworths, availability of $100 denominations for TCN gift cards featuring JB Hi-Fi varied wildly from store to store.

      • You may struggle with Woolworths staff doing their best to limit the number of gift cards you can purchase, particularly if you are constantly visiting the same store. I had two different staff members hassle me about gift card scams today when I was purchasing multiple $250 Vanilla Visa gift cards at Coles (which is a good thing, because that’s what they should be doing). In terms of Woolworths, I’ve had one duty manager tell me during one of the 30x Everyday Rewards points deals for Apple gift cards that I could only purchase a maximum of $300 worth of Apple gift cards per day.

      • You may end up purchasing a dud TCN gift card that cannot be redeemed in-person. The legendary OzBargainer who purchased 82 TCN/Ultimate gift cards over multiple TCN gift card deals to purchase a $11,000 projector at JB Hi-Fi in-store actually had one gift card that did not work.

      • If you are going to be purchasing the TV in-person, JB Hi-Fi staff may not be overly thrilled with you walking into their stores with ~60 TCN gift cards. If you end up doing that (because $100 TCN HER gift cards disappear fast from your local Woolworths stores), try to “prepare” the gift cards before you get to the store by removing packaging and scratching to reveal PINs, and try to visit JB Hi-Fi at a quieter time (if you can). If you do this, you will help save your sanity and the sanity of the poor JB Hi-Fi staff member who will basically be chained to a checkout for a few minutes assisting you.

      • If you are not going to be purchasing the TV anytime soon, JB Hi-Fi could be removed (or remove themselves) from the TCN gift card scheme at any time without notice. There was an approximately one-month period late last year where the redemption option at JB Hi-Fi for TCN gift cards switched from Instore & Online to Instore. This happened without any prior notice, and when I called TCN about this, the customer service rep said they had no idea whether the Online redemption option would ever come back, or whether JB Hi-Fi was about to leave the TCN gift card scheme.

If I were you, I would still purchase as many $100 TCN HER gift cards as possible through this deal, and only purchase $50 (or even $30) denominations as a last resort.

Btw, if you want to start stocking up on 10% off TCN gift cards now, your local Coles may have some discounted TCN gift cards in stock.

    • +1

I did $3k on a fridge 2 years ago at JB, I think it was like 45-50 cards. Just make sure you scratch the panel first before going to the checkout and go when they are quiet and not busy.

      • Wouldn’t it be easier to convert them into jb hifi gift cards and then redeem them all online?

        • I don't think that was an option 2 years ago

        • Whats the process of doing this?

  • Can the restaurant ones even be used at most places

    • +1

Yes This type is widely accepted. Other types have much more limited use.

    • Did the restaurant card on offer?

½ Price Vodafone $250 SIM for $125 is a good deal if you have 10% off with Woolworths insurance, and then pay with a 4% discounted gift card. Should cost $108.

    • +1

Which gift card are you suggesting? please share…
Also, can you use this deal to renew an existing vodafone yearly prepaid package? I got the same one last year, time to renew in December 2022.

      • Gift cards are 4% off through employee programs and auto club memberships like racv/RACQ, etc

        • +1

… or you could purchase a Vanilla Visa gift card from Coles (assuming you can find stock around you).

    • +1

U cant use gift card to pay for sim @woolies , tried last week with lebara sim. Woolworth deals sim card as a gift card.

      • Maybe VF SIM is an exception. I have seen other people said it worked.

FYI, Belong SIM is not allowed, either.

    • Can you use Wish card to pay for the Sim card?
Also, can you use 10% off your shopping which you get monthly for woollies mobile?

      • 10% yes. Guft card to pay sim- not sure.

  • Whats the max value of each TCN card ?

    • I see you changed your question!

The max denomination of the TCN HER gift card sold at Woolworths is $100.

I don’t exactly remember off the top of my head the max denomination of the TCN TEEN and SHOP gift cards sold at Woolworths, but I’m 95% sure it is $50.

Obviously, stock will vary from store to store.

      • Yep TEEN is $30 and $50 cards whilst HER is $50 and $100 denominations.

I bought this Vodafone SIM in the last half price event. I've been using Optus and Boost and saw this one offers 5G and I'd give it a try. Turns out it's pretty shit compare to Boost and Optus. I would definitely avoid Vodafone again in the future (I've been a royal customer with Vodafone for 7 years before I switched to Optus)

(I live in Rhodes there are no 5G coverage here)

    • I bought this sim beginning of this year. Have had a good experience. I guess it depends on your location.
      I ported from dodo.
Will buy again. Just not sure if I can use this as a recharge. Has anyone tried?

I've been surviving my half-price Voda SIM since Jan. I wouldn't wish this coverage on my worst enemy!

Small transactions are safe as houses as nobody cares

  • Assuming these can't be redeemed @ JB Hifi online?

    • +9

No, you cannot directly redeem any physical TCN gift cards featuring JB Hi-Fi on the JB Hi-Fi website, as they operate on the EFTPOS network and there is no way to redeem EFTPOS cards online (at the moment, anyway).

However, you can exchange a TCN gift card featuring JB Hi-Fi for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card that can be emailed to you.

      1. Go to the TCN website and navigate to the webpage for the TCN gift card you have (e.g. TCN HER gift card, TCN TEEN gift card)
      2. Scroll down to the How To Use section
      3. Enter the gift card number into the box and select Continue (only where required - some TCN gift card pages do not ask for a gift card number)
      4. Choose the desired participating retailer (i.e. JB Hi-Fi) from the dropdown list
      5. Click/tap on the Online button to the right of the dropdown list
      6. Click/tap on Proceed
      7. Follow the subsequent steps to have the digital gift card emailed to you.

Keep in mind that JB Hi-Fi or TCN may change how you can redeem a TCN gift card featuring JB Hi-Fi at any time without any warning. There was a one month period late last year where the redemption option at JB Hi-Fi changed from Instore & Online to Instore only, and when I spoke to a TCN customer service rep, they said they had no idea whether the Online redemption option would ever come back (and it did, obviously).

  • So if i have TCN gc & i only intend to buy at JB, its better to convert them to online JB gc? coz JB might not honour the TCN gc in the near future?

    • Yes

    • +1

I think it makes sense to exchange TCN gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards in nearly all situations, especially if there are no other retailers on the TCN gift card that you are interested in or would ever purchase from.

      • If you are going to be purchasing an item online, you’re going to have to exchange the TCN gift cards into JB Hi-Fi gift cards anyway, so you might as well do it as soon as you can. This is especially true if you cannot easily get to a store (e.g. because you live far away from a JB Hi-Fi store).

      • If you are going to be purchasing anything other than gift cards in-store, it still makes sense to exchange your TCN gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards, but please make sure you have an organised way of storing JB Hi-Fi gift cards on your phone (or print them out), especially if you have lots of JB Hi-Fi gift cards to redeem. I store my JB Hi-Fi gift cards on Stocard, which makes it easier for staff to redeem it in-store. I’ve had problems in the past with staff trying to scan the barcode directly from the PDF file saved to my phone, especially when I’ve had to mess around with resizing the barcode on the screen and screen brightness, and then sometimes give up and ask the JB Hi-Fi staff member to manually punch in the gift card number.

      • However, if you are going to be purchasing gift cards in-store (e.g. Steam, Stan, Apple, Google Play), you’re better off keeping the TCN gift cards as is. It is a lot more straightforward to purchase a gift card at JB Hi-Fi using a TCN or Ultimate gift card than a JB Hi-Fi gift card, especially since some staff think that you cannot purchase non-JB Hi-Fi gift cards using JB Hi-Fi gift cards (which is wrong, but I can understand why they think that).

      • Thats a clever idea storing it on Stocard.
Does JB staff ask for proof of copy of your GC?
Also, after they scan the barcode, you give them the pin number right?

        • Nah, I’ve never had a staff member ask me for the original PDF copy of a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

The last time I redeemed a JB Hi-Fi gift card in-store, I was not actually asked for the PIN. However, it would be prudent to include the PIN in the card description on Stocard just in case they need you to punch it in on the EFTPOS terminal.

      • What exactly do you quote when the refuse?

Had same situation this week and they quoted their terms and conditions in their website

        https://support.jbhifi.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/360052939334…

        Point number 13.

I explained TCN notes no such restrictions and don’t see how that’s fair but they wouldn’t budge.

        • +1

It’s tricky to push back when JB Hi-Fi staff refuse to let you redeem TCN gift cards, as clause 3 of the TCN gift card terms and conditions allow them to do that:

Each participating retailer will accept the Card in accordance with these Terms & Conditions and any applicable law and subject always to the individual trading terms of each participating retailer.

If a store manager decides you cannot use a TCN gift card to purchase any kind of product in their store, you are probably out of luck. The counter point is that that the JB Hi-Fi store didn't disclose their trading terms until after you purchased and attempted to use a TCN gift card, but there still isn't a lot you can reasonably do in that situation.

I try to avoid the situation myself by trying to conceal the type of card I am using to purchase a gift card at JB Hi-Fi and hope that staff don't ask what sort of card I want to use.

          • +1

            @WookieMonster: Thanks.

            Still think it’s pretty poor.

Gift cards should be treated like cash.
