Damn it, as I buy $300 at JB yesterday.

Though, I could easily use some with game vouchers….

    • I did the same, literally half a day ago…

Funnily enough I only found out now that eShop balance has a $375 limit. Oh well…

Stacking is ~19% off, just wonder if TCN cards can be used in Coles for this offer LOL

      • +1

Thanks, thought limit was $300. May have changed recently then.

        • Inflation?

    • also bought some from JB. possible to return & refund?

  • +2

Cool, being absentminded and completely forgetting to stop in at JB this morning Paid off!

  • +8

Shouldn’t you buy TCN Teen and then stack with JB?

    • Updated description.

    • +1

That assumes staff will let you purchase a Nintendo eShop gift card using TCN gift cards (or JB Hi-Fi gift cards).

The collective OzBargain experience seems to suggest this is very hit or miss, even though there is nothing explicitly against this published either from TCN or JB Hi-Fi.

      • +3

just tell them you want to pay by card, and use the eftpos machine?

        • +3

That’s all well and good until you have a JB Hi-Fi staff member specifically ask to see what kind of card you are going to use when you are wanting to purchase a gift card, even though you simply say card, please. That happened to me once.

But yes, simply telling staff you’d like to pay by card is usually fine.

        • I’d say it really depends on people.

The one I dealt with was a pro. I said I’ll pay by card, and he saw me take out a stack of cards, and go straight asking me how much is each card worth. The entire process was silky smooth. I guess he is experienced in such method like many ebgames staff.

  • Can we use Coles gift cards to buy this?

    • I haven't been able to use Flybuys dollars at Coles for Gift Cards if that means anything.

      • That would be awesome if we can do that.

        • You can at Target (and Kmart as I was alluded to in the JB thread).

I use flybuys dollars all the time there for gaming related gift cards.

      • I have, maybe it depends on the card? I got EB Games paid with FB$.

      • Will try anyway. Got a 7% cashback on ShopBack super swap so trying to stack up

    • +2

It depends on what type of Coles gift card you are talking about, as there are at least five different versions of “Coles gift cards” that currently exist:

      • You cannot use Coles Groceries or Coles Groceries & Returns gift cards to purchase any gift cards at Coles. If you attempt this, you will get an Invalid Product Mix error on the EFTPOS terminal screen, and staff have no way of helping you get around that error.

      • I am not sure about Coles gift cards or Coles Group & Myer gift cards, as I have not tried to use them within the last month or so to purchase third-party gift cards (e.g. the gift cards in this deal).

      • I am not sure about Coles Plus gift cards or Coles flybuys gift cards, because I have never used those!

      • Just asked about this above - I assume any kind of TCN cards are not redeemable at Coles anyway, right?

        • +4

          Correct.

The physical TCN gift cards you are referring to work by looking at unique identifiers in an EFTPOS terminal and then comparing it against a whitelist of EFTPOS terminal unique identifiers it has received from participating retailers (e.g. JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Puma). TCN receives information from an EFTPOS terminal after you swipe a gift card, choose Savings, enter the card PIN and press Enter on the EFTPOS terminal. If the unique identifier for the EFTPOS terminal is not found on the whitelist, TCN will decline the transaction.

Other types of physical TCN gift cards (e.g. The Restaurant Card) works differently; instead of looking at unique identifiers on an EFTPOS terminal, it instead looks at the Merchant Category Code (MCC) assigned to that EFTPOS terminal by the merchant’s bank when they set up the EFTPOS terminal and compares that against the whitelist of MCCs assigned to the type of gift card you are attempting to redeem.

I’m not going to rule out the possibility of it working at Coles one day due to some monumental glitch, but I would still be very surprised if that were to happen.

      • What are the Coles Plus gift cards?

        • It is a gift card issued by Coles Group that is only redeemable at Coles Group businesses, i.e.:

          • Coles
          • Coles Express
          • Liquorland
          • First Choice Liquor
          • Vintage Cellars

Another way to think of it is that it is a Coles Group & Myer gift card minus the Wesfarmers-owned businesses and Myer.

I have only seen physical versions of this gift card, and they appear to be only sold at Coles and giftcards.com.au.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Cool! Can't believe I'd never noticed that one before (thought it might be related to the Coles Plus subscription). Thanks a bunch!

    • +1

I have tried this, and I would advise against purchasing eShop cards with a Coles gift card. If you attempt to do that it almost always crashes or freezes their systems and they have to reboot the POS terminal. However, I have been successful sometimes in purchasing them with Coles gift cards. I've stopped using Coles gift cards since my last experience with them where it failed and deducted my gift card balance, so I had to speak with their customer support (online) to have the credit added back into the gift card.

      • That may have happened to me. Although I'm not sure if he scanned the gift card. He may have, then removed it (he said I couldn't pay for it with gift card after I tried to pay) so I attempted to buy the other non-eshop gift card items with cash and the entire POS terminal crashed.

:( bought $100 google play card from amazon deal a few days ago

  • +2

Great deal! I love the % off deal over xx points.

  • No price match on gift cards?

    • +4

As far as I'm aware, Officeworks should price-beat the Google Play Gift Cards.

    • +2

I’m not sure whether JB Hi-Fi can price match gift cards.

A work colleague (who used to work at JB Hi-Fi) says that it is possible, but the one time I asked JB Hi-Fi to price match the very last discounted iTunes gift card deal at a third-party retailer, JB Hi-Fi staff said they were not allowed to price match gift cards, even though there was (and still is) nothing in the price match policy against this…

  • +3

damn it… oh well… time to buy more…

    Thanks.
Needed to stock up on more superchat credits.

    • Who are you superchatting?

  • Can you buy devices (pixel) with google play gc ?

  • Don't suppose these can be loaded on to Turkish Google accounts?

    • Nope.

  • +2

    15% Google is RARE!

    • +1

Don't google play cards go for 20% off or so at times ? Or am I thinking of another card.

      • +1

        No

      • +2

The closest you could get was 10-15% followed by a price beat (like Officeworks).

They bizarrely started being really defensive of this process 6-12 months ago - why any of them care is beyond me, it's a mega corp so congrats of being sad corporate cucks I guess…

    • used to be free from telstra credit

  • Can you use this voucher on any games in the Nintendo e-store? Or just a specific list of games?

    • +3

Any, its just credit for your eshop account

    • And including any services and subscriptions like NSO and preorders. I believe My Nintendo hardwares like SNES, N64 controllers are also possible.

  • Is this worth it to buy for the digital copy of Xenoblade 2 and the Xenoblade 2: Torna for $115? Vs. waiting for physical copy for both on eBay? I think this is my only option since I missed out on the BigW deal as it’s rare now. I own both the first game and third game.

    • If you only want to play the game, digital would probably be your cheapest option.

Edit: if you don't mind a US copy, Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna- The Golden Country is ~$72 delivered @ Amazon US via AU (Switch is region free, so will work on local console). Didn't realise Torna doesn't include the base XB2.

    • +2

Hold out until black friday at least, base game and also Torna have gone down in price a few times on eShop to $59.95 and $30.00 respectively.

It's convoluted, but you may be able to make money from this deal:

    1. Opening a Google Play developer profile costs $25 USD (~ $38.08 AUD). Remember to use a card without an overseas transaction fee.

    2. Publish a really basic app and price it between $0.10 - $550. Google's service fee for developers who have made under $1 million is 15%.

    3. Price-match the this deal at JB Hi-Fi (in-store), and pay using the gift cards either purchased from the current Coles deal or Woolworths deal. After purchasing earlier today, I can confirm that the Ultimate cards in the Coles deal remain able to be bought using discounted Coles gift cards, in the method laid out in the wiki (which I believe was put together by the true leader of this site — @WookieMonster). Unfortunately, Woolworths doesn't have this same loophole. The Woolworths method (or Coles method without discounted gift card) allows for a 23.5% discount on the Google Play gift cards, whilst the Coles method (using Macquarie Marketplace) can lead to a 25.795% discount. Alternatively, you may be able to price-beat at Officeworks for a 19.25% discount (as mentioned in the description).

    4. Finally just purchase your own app on different accounts, hope you don't get flagged, and take pride in the fact that you managed to break even, after spending a minimum of $96.92 on your own apps. This though, does allow you to convert any Google Opinion Rewards credit into cash.

Alternatively (and much more simply), any method in step 3 can be used to get a better deal on the Google Play gift cards. I though, shall be absolutely taking advantage of this deal after Coles, so rudely, prevented everyone in New South Wales from accessing the Mastercard gift card deal last week. I will be truly raking in the dollars next week.

    • +1

      3. Price-match the this deal at JB Hi-Fi (in-store)

I don't think JB will price-match Gift Cards (I've tried numerous time in the past without any successful, but YMMV).

    • After tax I’d say you won’t be making much….

    • Not sure whether this is possible, but maybe IAPs would be similar, allowing you to be able to make heaps of purchases from the same account, rather than needing multiple accounts?

    • This used to be quite lucrative when Telstra prepaid credit (at half price with promotional starter packs) could be used as Google Play credit.

I never made an app but used two reliable ones. I didn't realise it was that cheap to get an account but it's the coding of the app which I couldn't do.

  • Thanks OP

  • Forgive my deviant mind, but regarding the google play cards - couldn't I create an artificial product on the app store (simple paid app) then buy these cards in bulk @15% off and buy that app from myself at a 15% profit?

    • Refer to a few comments above.

  • May as well get this. Tried and failed at the Turkish Google One plans

  • Can this be done fully online?

    • +1

      Buying the gift cards, no

      • That was a fast reply. Cheers!

Woolies has 10% off some travel & entertainment gift cards.

  • So the question becomes, is renting GoldenEye for a year worth 51 bucks?

I don't know, but at least I'll be saving 9 bucks.

Bought Rare Replay again the other day when they announced you'd get GoldenEye as well if you own it digitally, been having a blast playing through Perfect Dark again, that'd be fun with "online" on the Switch.

    • I bet Perfect dark would be a lot more fun than Goldeneye for multiplayer, that game has not aged well due to the control scheme. At least Perfect Dark had interesting level layouts and weapons in it.

    • +1

is renting GoldenEye for a year worth 51 bucks?

You could always join a family plan which is about ~$14/year per person.

  • Can someone explain what the purpose of Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers are? Is there any benefit to buying these vouchers that seem to expire in a year?

    • +3

If you are referring to the Nintendo eShop Gift Cards, they don't expire.

Nintendo eShop Gift Cards can be used to purchase the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, which does expire after 12 months (365 days) from the time of purchase. You'll only purchase the Game Vouchers when you want swap them for games/pre-order. (Once swapped, games permanently stay on your account).

The benefit of purchasing the 'Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers', is that it usually works out cheaper than purchase both games individually. $134.95 for 2 Games = $67.48 each VS $79.95/$89.95.

      • Yep. And just keep in mind that 67.48 is sometimes more expensive than physical copies of the games or common online sale prices. So the vouchers are often not a bargain.

Paying $80+ for a game is crazy high in 2022, so a modest discount off that can still be a rip-off. The regular Amazon or JB price is often cheaper.

You can check past/current prices by a search of OzBargain and online store price tracking sites.

        • I value having a digital library, and not needing to swap carts around all the time.
This is especially the case when you're on a daily Fitness Boxing/Ring Fit Adventure schedule also!

The 15% off voucher from this deal + NSO Game voucher method really does bring it down to something more reasonable, and atleast on par with these crazy physical deals.

So tempting! I've got a Westfields gift card, would be that accepted @ Coles?

    • Maybe? Although I’m not sure whether you’re referring to the physical Westfield EFTPOS gift card or the digital Westfield Visa gift card.

I was able to use a physical Westfield EFTPOS gift card to purchase a gift card from Coles early this year. However, that doesn’t really mean much, as Coles has changed the acceptance of some prepaid gift cards throughout this year. For example, Vanilla Visa gift cards could be used to purchase other Vanilla Visa gift cards at Coles earlier this year, but Coles changed their systems a couple of weeks ago to stop this.

      • +1

        Thanks for getting back!
I've got a physical Westfield EFTPOS gift card of $100. Might try it out this arvo and update the game collection.

Just bought a few $50s Google Play gift cards in coles in SA
Went to officeworks but staffs couldn't find it advertised on Coles website. Got turned off on price beat.

    • Next time, take the physical Coles catalogue in with you, or tell the staff to look at the digital Coles catalogue on the Coles website, or show the staff the digital Coles catalogue on your smart device.

However, there’s no guarantees that staff will still honour the price beat even when they have a physical or digital Coles catalogue to look at, as my more recent experience with Officeworks and gift card price beats is that staff will happily come up with random excuses to deny your price beat request. 🤷‍♂️

      • Thanks mate. I got it price-beat today with catalogue + receipt in a different OW store.
So I gave the staff a printed Coles catalogue today, but he's not convinced and continued to look up online. I helped him to look for the catalogue PDF.
Then he said the 15% off did not specify which gift card it targets. So I asked him if I went to Coles and buy the discounted card would the PB be accepted.
Thats how I got the PB on $50 cards. Much appreciated your help

  • Remember buy em with your HSBC 2% cashback card for even more of a discount.

  • Just wondering if anyone is on the India YouTube Premium and if they needed to "make a manual google transaction " to keep that active?

  • Just wondering if anyone had success getting price beat from officeworks yet? Is it possible to do it over the phone or is it in-store only

    • Did it fine at OW Doncaster.

      • can pay by OW gift card?

    • +5

Went instore at Belmont WA with a catalogue. They had every employee in the store look over it. Got the price beat. Off to do another store tomorrow, I like to see the fear in their eyes…

  • Does Officeworks sell Nintendo eShop cards? I can only see Switch Online membership cards on their website

  • Any success getting price beat in officeworks adelaide stores? And which one

  • First store put through eshop cards and let me pay with a Coles gift card, but they only had two eshop cards left. Went to the next one over and the guy that served me wouldn't even let me attempt to pay with a gift card. The system allows it but it's up to the employee's discretion?

  • Is that can save more when buying with a 2 game voucher if the user have the Nintendo Switch Online membership?

    • Still $134.95 with Nintendo Switch Online Membership.

If I recall correctly, a paid membership to Nintendo Switch Online is required to purchase the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers.

Price beat at my local officeworks, quick and easy with the physical catalogue
