    • Edit: noticed USD price is lower

Yeah i got 6 of these. Pretty annoying that the chain loses ‘tension’ after a while and i have to re tension it. Its starts skipping etc. probably works 70% of the time. Ive tried changing chains but no dice.

    • +1

Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. That is enough of a reason for me to skip it. 100 internet points to you.

    • How long until they lose tension?

I've been running aqara e1 drivers for quite a while and haven't had to readjust

      • How do you find the Aqara E1?

        • heard battery life is only 2 months which is almost nothing :(
        • are you using it with Home Assistant? if so, any challenges?

        Cheers.

        • +1

battery seems to be more like 3 months, you can leave it plugged in if you want as it does come with a long cable.
You could also just add your own solar panel like this listing.

yes, using with HA via zigbee2mqtt, no issues and HA has a native blinds integration

          • @impoze: Thanks for info. My main concern with solar panel is it’s kinda huge :/

        • +1

I've been using my E1 paired with Aqara zigbee hub and their app. Scheduled to open close the blind every morning and night respectively. Been running seemlessly for 3 weeks now. Schedule was set in the Aqara app but I have integrated with HA to voice control open close the blind at other times.
I like it! But sadly wife thinks it's too big so I couldn't install more of them

      • Im not sure. Definitely has something to do with those standard metal bead chains all roller blinds have. Maybe the metal heads expand a bit.

I feel like if they gave non metal custom chains which were made of plastic/rope it could probably improve it.

    • If I get you correctly the chain losing tension is not the fault of the unit. it's the chain?

When you mount it, you should mount it tight, then the bracket which is connected to the wall allows you to push it down further to compensate for "chain" / cable stretch.

I have a few of the battery models and have worked quite well for more than a year. Integrates with home assistant like a champion with local tuya.

My blinds are Cheap AF but rope. Are you using the correct adapter "cog" wheel? If it's a chain i assume your just swiveling the slats?

My longest vertical blind is 3m, I just open and close.

    • I’ve found the beads breaks on them quite often too.

I’m basically just now contemplating getting the more expensive motorised blind roller

    • Interesting - I’ve been running three Zemismart motors for a year now and have not had a problem with chain tension..

The blinds are Luxaflex with a continuous plastic chain - no apparent join.

I just wish I’d got the Zigbee variant.

      • Yeh i think thats what im getting at. Works better with plastic ones as opposed to the more common metal chain beads.

Ive tried looking for plastic bead chains but they dont seem to sell them - and it needs to be one continuous loop because using a joiner wont work in the gear

  • Just beginning my home automation journey. Picked some up to see how they go for the main blinds with the HomeKit Tuya hub. Fingers crossed.
Solar panel seems to be a bit on the large side for my liking. Opted for without as I'm sure a portable power bank attached to it to charge every few months will suffice.

    • +1

I'd get the wifi/zigbee. apparently the solar panel is "huge"

      Recharge lasts 2-3 months here.

The only issue is the rf dongles are kinda weak but you can replace them with a sonoff wifi/rf bridge

      hth.

      • Also that's a great attitude towards home automation 👍🏻

      • Thanks for the info! Will check that out.

Home automation can become a deep, and expensive, rabbit hole. Had a very simple Google Home setup a while back but half the time the voice controls were never detected, and found some limitations with family features. Tackling HomeKit now, and while it has a very limited set of device compatibility, I’m fortunate enough to know how to setup a raspberry pi with HomeBridge.

Next up, swapping out some downlights. (If only Bunnings matched ALDIs recent deal :))

      • @barg99 - If they are they same as mine, they operate on 915mhz so no wifi/RF bridge I can get will work (all 433mhz here).
