Great little rice cooker, Price is pretty standard for Mydeal but has currently free postage and 20-22% Cashback at cash rewards which comes to around $95 after cashback.

I purchased it from Mydeal a few months ago, Direct import arrived quickly with Aus power supply.

The only issue I've had with it is the bowl is quite thin and is easily bent if you happen to drop it on the floor while doing dishes like I did. It still works fine but hard to get back into a perfect circle shape.

Also low at Amazon $131, not too sure about MyDeal's warranty policy so I went with Amazon.

Would recommend this rice cooker, if you often cook rice and can't justify +$300 for a Tiger or Zojirushi get this or the cheaper Panasonic without the extra features.

    • How is it different to the more expensive rice cooker? I've been using stove and interested in getting rice cooker. Don't mind splurging but we only cook 2 cups of rice 2 or 3 times a week, and we store the rice in the fridge. I don't know if it's worth it spending 500 for a rice cooker if the rice ends up stored in the fridge

    Is the bowl machine washable

    • Are any rice cooker bowls dishwasher safe?

      • I've a Heller pressure cooker with a stainless steel rice bowl. The bowl is dishwasher safe.

    • +1

I haven't put mine in the dishwasher as i didn't want to risk damaging the coating.

      On the good guys website.

      Dishwasher Safe: No

    • +1

      I’d strongly recommend hand-washing using a sponge.

If this is like my rice cooker (almost the same model), the bowl will be non-stick. As such, nothing really sticks, so all you ever need to do is wipe off anything inside.

If you only use a sponge, you can rest assured that the non-stick surface will remain intact. I’ve never needed to scrub mine.

Not exactly answering your question, but just a note from someone who owns one of these (pretty much).

    • +5

I have this cooker. It cleans up so well with just a hand wash/sponge with minimal detergent. Cannot imagine needing to dishwasher it

      • +1

You would be surprised how lazy people are.

      • +6

Isn't a dishwasher just an extra drying rack?

    • I have this model. Not dishwasher safe but very easy to clean by hand. Rice does not stick at all.

    • +1

Never seen anyone putting the bowl in the dish washing machine in my entire life as a Vietnamese o.O

      • +2

Ditto. Neither myself nor my twin sister have ever seen anyone doing that in our entire lives as Siamese OvO

    • +1

Mose rice cooker bowl has none stick coating (few exceptions), which shouldn’t put in dishwasher. But these bowl usually very easy to clean, easier than coffee mug.

$10 My deal sign up and Cashback 20% …..brings it down to $88 ……

    • +4

PS: The $10 App Bonus Code may void the cashback

You may not be eligible for Cashback:

      • If a coupon code is used that is not listed on Cashrewards.
      • +1

they have 2 $10 codes …..1 is for the “app” which cash rewards can’t track the other $10 is for a browser, used the browser instead of the “app” and cash rewards tracked the purchase (appears on my history and the amount was added) and my deals gave the $10 ….guess i will see see what happens in a few weeks if it's reversed, but I doubt it if it tracked and added.

    Is it made in Japan?

Edit: Looks like the answer is no:

    I'll pass :(

      China

    • +1

Zojirushi if you want a proper Japanese rice cooker

      • I'd recommend Cuckoo - cheaper than the Japanese brands but cooks equally well.

    FUIYOH

Panasonic cookers are nice. Slow cooker function works well too

    • +3

Slow cooker is excellent. Functions more like a pressure cooker. My old slow cooker would take 6-8 hours to get the same results this does in 2-3.

  • +2

Can anyone advise how it does cooking small quantities, say 1 cup (uncooked)?

    • The "quick" mode on these multifunction rice cookers make them function like a standard $10 rice cooker and will cook in about the same time, but if you are only interested in the quick mode you might as well get the $10 special at the nearest Kmart.

Edit: oh right, a bit under 30 minutes for 1 cup of rice

      • +1

I agree, I always quick mode and white rice turns out fine. I cook 1 cup sometimes and it turns out fine, no issues.

      • +1

So the rice is nicer when cooked on the non-slow setting?

        • +3

There's no singular definition of "nice" rice. It's all up to personal preference and what the recipe you are using needs.

        • +3

Yes,it's better on normal cook time.

    • It cooks one cup no issues. Ends up being 2cm of rice from the base and doesnt stick.

    • I have this model and often cook 1 cup, it comes out perfectly fine

  • +1

I have the aldi $59 rice cooker and it's absolutely wonderful. Cooks perfect rice every time including sushi rice which is nice. Hard to get one though because they sell out within an hour when they sell them.

  • Guys, is the inner bowl in these aluminium? I heard bad things about them

    • +2

It has multiple layers of coatings, so isn’t pure aluminium.

Don’t put it on a stove top or dishwasher and will be fine.

    • +1

the inside of the bowl coated non stick, probably parts of the exterior of the bowl aren't coated but just aluminium so makes better contact with the heating element ….aluminium and dishwasher detergent are a bad combination as it corodes the aluminium ….. lots of exposed aluminium things aren't dishwasher safe …..

  • +1

I have Breville slow cooker/pressure cooker, which also does rice nicely.

Would I expect vastly superior output from this cooker?

    • +1

Not vastly better but better. And easier to use and clean up than a pressure cooker. If you have rice at least once a week id say its worth buying.

    • For vastly superior you’re looking at the $500+ rice cooker market

  • anyone know if there is warranty on cooker?

  • -2

Here's how you cook rice properly without these rice cookers.

    1. Put rice in a bowl,
    2. Fill it with water so it's 1.5cm above the rice
    3. Then put this bowl into a pot
    4. Pour water into the pot so there's enuff water but not too much so that when it boils it will spill into the bowl
    5. Turn on the stove and put the pot on it covered of course. Ideally U want a glass lid to check on the rice
    6. Wait until the rice has risen and absorbed all the water in its bowl.

You are essentially boiling a bowl of raw rice that's submerged in water and.your.rice will never burn until the water is fully evaporated in the pot. Try it.

    • +4

You could also instead buy this excellent rice cooker (I have one, and it's great), because you cook rice all the time and using a rice cooker takes less effort and results in better rice…

    • just means your rice never gets over 100C, and below 100C things typically don't burn, so unless you boil the pot dry , you have a safety net and can't overcook the rice.

depends what challenges you have cooking rice ….. e.g can't afford a rice cooker, or don't know how to cook rice without a rice cooker …. for me it's convenience that it goes into keep warm mode once the water has been absorbed and temperature rises above 100C …. there is no magic about how a rice cooker element switches off and into warm mode when the water is absorbed and temperature rises above 100C.

    • Put rice in a bowl,

Fail - need to account for rice types, didn't even wash the rice also.

      • -1

        also it’s enough not enuff

      • Which types of rice don't need to be put in the bowl?

You also forgot to correct him on failing to point out the need to be wearing a shirt…

  • It's back in stock since OOS, and slightly cheaper: $121.32.

    Price matched by Amazon: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07SBY4DY6

Edit: it's now $122.22, not sure why the ups and downs.

    • Without the ~$20 cashback from Cashrewards, it's a wiser choice to buy from Amazon. Highly unlikely for the appliance to break down but if it does, Amazon would be much easier to deal with.

In having said that, mine arrived today from this deal.
