Interesting time to post this considering the Optus data breach is big news at the moment.

    • What's this got to do with Optus?

      • +1

Check out their privacy policy and the amount of information you need to provide lol

          • +20

@SteveD: Why are so many people defending Optus? They stuffed up big time.

Easier said then done. It's a reasonable expectation that they look after our data. Yes, it is possible to get the ID replaced but it is an inconvenience and a waste of time. Literally millions of hours collectively.

            • +1

@Caped Baldy: I am not here attacking Optus or any company. I know it’s a hassle to change all your ID’s for no fault of yours. You trust in a company when you give away your personal details. But when they send your personal data overseas to be managed to keep overhead cost down, these data breach is likely to happen.
Equifax which keeps our credit score (I think Optus is giving away 12 month free subscription to its customers), which you expect to be the most secure, had their data breach in 2017. Private records of 147.9 million Americans along with 15.2 million British citizens and about 19,000 Canadian citizens were compromised in the breach. You can read it here Equifax
Guess once you provide anything to anyone online, there is no such thing as secure.

        • It's the standard contact details + 100 points of ID that basically all of these services use. Not saying it's "good", but the way our laws are set up now means that basically all phone/internet services will require them.

        People leaving to spite optus

    • +1

Considering they have flogged everyone on Australia ever since they screwed up big time since the last world cup, shows how much stuffed up their service is.

  • Telstra have had several privacy breaches in the past. Is it really anything new? Yes, I'm still annoyed though.

    • Telstra doesn't charge you for a sports channel and then have their service drop 24/7 all over big matches like the world cup, they don't also do credit checks on you for no reason over prepaid services like a data sim. Oh, and they also don't force you to activate a sim from the delivery date either. I think they going in the right direction if only their service was cheap like the rest I don't believe anyone would go anywhere else.

      • Irrelevant.
Your experiences and their services have nothing to do with the expectation of secure Personally Identifiable Information.

PII breach is a PII breach.

  • I literally just signed up and switched over from tpg yesterday afternoon damn it!

    • Maybe just ask them for it anyway?
Threaten to leave if they don't give it to you.

Someone from previous deal post outline their T&C that Econnex can share your data whenever they what. Thats why I ignored this deal and signed up with Superloop without the $100 gift card

    • True but I don't care because already my data in breached with Optus. Changed to Superloop now. Thanks OP!

    • +9

      Yeah, that was me.
Have a look at Econnex Privacy Policy and the section on Disclosure of personal information to third parties. I wouldn't mind if the information was for Econnex's own direct use but the fact that they pass it on and including to overseas companies is a shocker (in my opinion)! Not worth the $100.

      • Thank you Sir

Reading T&C and policies are frightening and overwhelming.

      • +3

        Thankyou sir,
Currently cancelling existing service. Will probably go straight to superloop. I guess these companies have to make money somehow to give out a free $100

Hey mate, We do include this in our privacy statement as we are required to share your details with the retailers (in this case superloop) and usage of our services and sign-ups are done through our platform, it is our legal obligation to inform you that might share your data, we only share our customer's data to anyone who absolutely requires it.

        • +16

Yeah right to "we only share our customer's data to anyone who absolutely requires it", yet the disclosure says.

          Example Snippets only:
          - Our existing or potential agents or business partners;

Question: Why would a "potential" agent require our information. They aren't even associated with you yet? In short there is nothing stopping Econnex from passing our details to anyone as they could always say "well there were a potential agent but it never worked out!

          Other:
          - "Third parties, including agents or sub-contractors, who assist us in providing information, products, services or direct marketing to you. This may include parties located, or that store data, outside of Australia including in India; and
Third parties to collect and process data, such as Google Analytics or other relevant businesses. This may include parties that store data outside of Australia"

This is only a couple of the many noted. I'd hardly call this only providing to those that "absolutely require it". If you don't do this, then perhaps remove all of these from the Policies.

          • @Borg: Thanks for the heads-up Borg.

Econnex have an absolutely awful privacy policy and the potential to leak more data than Optus.

Will steer clear of them and their honeypots!

        • +2

While we store personal information in Australia, where we disclose your personal information to the third parties listed above, these third parties may store, transfer or access personal information outside of Australia, including but not limited to, the United States of America, Ireland, United Kingdom, Netherlands, the Philippines and India.

          • +4

@bobzor: Exactly. Once you have it and disclose it elsewhere…it's anyone's guess where it ends up. Absolutely dreadful (my opinion only).

You have it on your disclosure so appreciate that you are not doing anything wrong. I am only highlighting as a FYI in general to OZB to think before signing up. Is it really worth the $100.

  • Anyone know if there are any fees if we switch?

    • Hey onomatopoeia, there is no setup cost & no exit fee with Superloop, you will only be charged for the plan you choose.

      • Thanks, what about the modem?

        • Hey mate, there are 2 options to choose from, you can either use the old modem if it's unlocked, all you got to do is configure it, details will be sent to your email.

The second option is you can opt for the modem and it will be charged accordingly.

Signed up with SL last week, missed out $100 :(

    • +4

who knows may be you saved > $100 worth of damages from any future data leaks

  • Can I choose to connect a date other than today?

I wanna connect next month but I can sign it up now, will I be eligible?

    • Hey Kawaii, yes you can sign up today and choose the connection date for next month. As per our terms and conditions, your broadband service must be activated by 31st Oct 2022 to be eligible for this offer.

Please note, If Eligible, Recipients will receive a $100 Woolworths Store Bonus eGift Card by email up to 90-120 days after you have successfully activated your service.

If your broadband service is cancelled within the first 30 days of activation, the transaction would be deemed invalid and you will not be eligible to receive the offer.

  • Does this deal work for ex Superloop customers?

    • +1

Hey nfr, you will be eligible for this deal which is a $100 woollies gift card, but you might and might not be eligible for the offers from Superloop, as it is totally the retailer's discretion.

  • +2

Id documents and info should never be kept by corporations. There should be an independent system verifying id and issuing a token to the service provider.

    • +1

In an ideal world, yes but unfortunately not the case.

  • just be careful of the terrible support/customer service at Superloop.

  • +1

I didnt recieve gift card from previous offer. How long does it takes ?

    • +2

Me too. The terms said 90 days from initial connection. It has already more than 90 days. I wonder how many people actually got the gc with any of their promo.

      • Hey yht, kindly share your reference number in order to track your application.

        • Do you mean the customer id from the telco ?

          • @yht: Hey mate, at the time of sign-up, you must have received a confirmation email from Econnex, in that email, there would be a reference number, kindly DM us that number.

    • Hey killbill02, kindly share your reference number in order to track your application.

I connected via last deal got my 2 x $50 vouchers and a $10 discount per month on the plan and have been happy with the Superloop service. recommended to a friend and got further $10 per month for 6 months.

Once my 6 months finished, Superloop offered me $15 discount per month to stay.. no contracts and I took it. so far so good.

Did I get bombarded on email - nothing more than previous 6 months.
Did I get spam calls - I have see more spam calls and SMS - not sure if it because of Econnex !

  • As per terms, you need to stay as superloop customer for at least 30 days to receive the gift card which could take between 90-120 days to be delieverd. Does that mean after 30 days we can change provider without loosing the gift card eligibility….can anyone confirm who would have done this in past…
